Today all the negative turned into the positive and enjoyed the beautiful spring weather and spring bloomers
Our baby boy turned 3 yesterday, May 23rd. Love him with all our hearts! I wanted to put his photo up then but the Flickr maintenance took over 24hrs.
Today I keep getting the Bad Panda and pages take forever to load if they load at all. I am also not receiving any notifications when friends put up new photos. Hoping they can get these issues fixed once and for all. It's been going on for way too long! My apologies if I am slow to respond to comments or miss your new photo uploads because of this.

Woodpeckers(both Gila and Flickers) actually bore the original holes into the Saguaro, and the cactus responds by healing the walls of the excavation by secreting a resinous substance that hardens into a waterproof seal. The resulting “boot” becomes an ideal nesting site for a great variety of birds, including Starlings, sparrows, finches, martins, and small owls.
The crested saguaro is relatively rare. The cause of the fanlike growth pattern remains a mystery with theories including genetic mutation, lightning strike, and freeze damage.

Hindeloopen (Hylpen) ligt ten zuidwesten van Workum, ten noordwesten van Koudum en ten noorden van Molkwerum. De stadskern ligt direct aan het IJsselmeer, aan De Zijlroete en Indijk.
In 2021 telde de stad 850 inwoners, waarvan ruim 70 in het relatief groot buitengebied van de stad wonen. De stad is na Sloten de kleinste van de Friese elf steden.
Hindeloopen kent een dialect dat sterk afwijkt van het Westerlauwers Fries, het Hindeloopers of Hylpers. De stad had weinig contact met het achterland maar vanuit Hindeloopen werd handel gedreven met Scandinavië, de Oostzee en Engeland. Het dialect is hier sterk door beïnvloed. Het meest opvallende is dat het de middeleeuwse klinkers behouden heeft. Omdat het zo afwijkt van het Fries is het dialect voor de meeste Friezen moeilijk te verstaan.

Hindeloopen (Hylpen) is located southwest of Workum, northwest of Koudum and north of Molkwerum. The city center is located directly on the IJsselmeer, on De Zijlroete and Indijk.

De Waa, ook wel Sint Anthoniswade genoemd, is een oude IJsselarm bij de Nederlandse Hanzestad Hattem, ontstaan als een overslagplas bij een grote overstroming in de 12e eeuw. Op de heuvel (de Gaedsbergh, Godsberg), grenzend aan deze ooit doorwaadbare plek (Wade), stond een van de oudste kerkjes van de Noordelijke Veluwe. Van dit Karolingische kerkje zijn in de 19e eeuw resten gevonden door F.A. Hoefer.
Over de Waa doen de wildste sagen de ronde: zo zou de complete kerktoren van het dorpje dat op de Gaedsbergh lag, ooit zijn verzonken in het onpeilbaar diepe water. Het onheilspellende klokgelui van dit kerkje zou bij slecht weer nog altijd te horen zijn.
Aan het eind van de 20e eeuw is door middel van onderwaterarcheologie vastgesteld dat het water noch van onpeilbare diepte is, noch een kerktoren heeft verzwolgen. Wél loopt een verzonken geplaveide weg ongeveer een meter onder het wateroppervlakte.

The Waa, also called Sint Anthoniswade, is an old IJsselarm near the Dutch Hanseatic city of Hattem, created as a transshipment pond during a major flood in the 12th century. On the hill (the Gaedsbergh, Godsberg), adjacent to this once fordable spot (Wade), stood one of the oldest churches in the Northern Veluwe. Remains of this Carolingian church were found in the 19th century by F.A. Hoefer.
The wildest legends are circulating about the Waa: the entire church tower of the village on the Gaedsbergh is said to have once sunk in the unfathomably deep water. The ominous bells of this church can still be heard in bad weather.
At the end of the 20th century, underwater archeology determined that the water was neither of unfathomable depth nor had it swallowed up a church tower. However, a sunken paved road runs approximately one meter below the water surface.
With a mischievous grin, this German Shepherd finds bliss in the simple joys of seaside walks.

A steady rain falls as CSX 911 leads B410 east under the former Norfolk & Western mainline. CSX 5236 with DPU's CSX 3187 and CSX 312 are also helping haul the 220+ car loaded coal train.
A fun night, the evening will be topped off with a roll out complete with lights, lazers, smoke and even AC/DC... E knows how to put on a good show, many people needed to be thanked for all their hard work to pull this off..

On the morning of Sunday, October 25th at Beacon Falls station, Metro-North’s Fire Brigade, and Beacon Falls Fire Department trained on stimulated brush fires along the railroad right of way. Before the drill, I photographed GP35R 104 with the fire protection water tank car passing in Beacon Falls, just south of where the drill was taking place. I wasn't able to stick around for the entire event, but you can visit Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 on Facebook for more pictures.
Running as the 973, NS 5642 leads the Operation Awareness and Response safety train east at MP45 on the NS Southern-West District, just west of Bartelso, IL.
Thanks to WR for the early-morning heads up on this move, which dominated my morning planning. Crap clouds all around but at least it wasn't a slate-gray featureless sky. Friendly crew too.
Mobile phones take over our lives more and more. It is difficult to find people to photograph who are not engrossed in the mobile phones.
I do not subscribe to such - I just take photographs using my mobile phone
First Responders...
Startled by the wail of sirens on our usually quiet crescent, I stuck my head out to see Paramedics and Firemen down the street. I was already taking pictures in the garden so I had my camera in hand. .
Later we found out it was nothing serious, just a small grease fire, which they had under control in a few minutes. Crisis averted.

After Rachel's death in 2001, the property that the Knoll sits on was sold to Seven Canyons, but with provisions to allow visitors to the site on an ongoing basis. Originally the buyers did not follow through on these provisions, but because of diligent work by Rachel's children and their lawyer, the courts have now declared that Seven Canyons must comply
Imagine the pristine beauty due west of Sedona with nothing but magnificent red rock formations in all directions. For many years, residents of Sedona were allowed to use a very special place in this extraordinary area. It was found on private property in the Long Canyon area and was owned by a woman named Rachel. She purchased this beautiful land, piece by piece, in the early 1970s and then made it available to the residents of Sedona, and all people from around the world.
Her property was perched high above the Long Canyon valley on a knoll which was later to be known as Rachel’s Knoll. To access her property one had to walk about half a mile meandering up a dirt road allowing ample time to experience and honor the drama and magical beauty of the land. Once on the knoll, one would find medicine wheels, seating areas, trails to guide you around to the meditative areas plus one of the most extraordinary red rock views in Sedona.
This land was most sacred to the Native Americans in the area and was used by them for centuries for their ceremonies and inspiration. Rachel knew when she entered this sacred place that it would be her goal to save it for all people so they might enjoy and honor the Native Americans who once lived there.

Underwater caves of Paxos
The western side of the island of Paxos is steep, with steep cliffs and numerous sea caves, which have a special reputation for their natural beauty.
Blue Cave
These are three special caves that communicate with one another. They owe their name to the variety of shades of blue and clear water.
In the first cave, which is the largest small boat has the ability to come in,

It was a cold, icy morning on the NS Kansas City District, but this SD60E was worth chasing, especially when it means so much to my girlfriend Melanie, who is a 911 Emergency Dispatcher, and this shot was taken in her hometown!

Firstly, huge apologies to those who responded to yesterday's upload. A major 'senior moment' (a lot of those, lately) resulted in me failing to realise I'd submitted the same photo a while back.
I'll endeavour to avoid repeating similar scatter-brained impulsiveness in future!
This was taken on a fairly fruitless Lakeland trip a few years back. I'd wandered up to Red Pike from Bowderdale in the hope that, given sufficient loitering there, I'd be rewarded with some dramatic lighting on the nearby Scafell massif. Despite hours of shuffling around (& eating all my food provisions), the sun never did directly hit my target, even though it made frequent appearances through broken cloud during the day.
Unfortunately, this image exhibits depth-of-field issues & a wee bit of blown-up, distant cloud. The gist of the situation remains, hopefully.

De grote stinkzwam komt met behulp van een eiertand uit een 3–6 cm grote knol die in de volksmond met heksen- of duivelsei wordt aangeduid.

Daaruit strekt zich in enkele uren de 10–20 cm lange poreuze en holle steel. De hoed van de paddenstoel is dan met een groene slijmerige sporenlaag (gleba) bedekt die een zeer penetrante aasgeur verspreidt, zelfs tegen de wind in te ruiken. De stank trekt vliegen en kevers als de oranje aaskever aan die voor de verspreiding van de sporen zorgen. De schone hoed is wit tot lichtgeel en heeft een kleine opening aan de top. De zwam lijkt dan wel op morieljes.
De sterke geur doet niet vermoeden dat deze paddenstoel ook eetbaar is. De steel van jonge exemplaren van de grote stinkzwam is eetbaar; naarmate hij ouder wordt neemt het psilocainegehalte toe waardoor hij te giftig wordt voor consumptie. Het heksenei, ontdaan van de sporenlaag, wordt gebakken opgediend en geldt in sommige culturen als afrodisiacum; dit vanwege de uiterlijke overeenkomst van het volwassen exemplaar, met het mannelijk lid. Deze veronderstelde werking is echter nooit aangetoond.

IThe large stink fungus comes with the aid of an egg tooth from a 3–6 cm large tuber, which is popularly referred to as witch's or devil's egg.

The 10–20 cm long porous and hollow stem extends from this in a few hours. The cap of the mushroom is then covered with a green slimy spore layer (gleba) that gives off a very pungent carrion odor, even smelling against the wind. The stench attracts flies and beetles such as the orange carrion beetle that spread the spores. The clean hat is white to pale yellow and has a small opening at the top. The fungus then resembles morels.
The strong smell does not suggest that this mushroom is also edible. The stem of young specimens of the stinking fungus is edible; with age, psilocaine levels increase making it too toxic for consumption. The witch's egg, stripped of the spore layer, is served fried and is considered an aphrodisiac in some cultures; this because of the outward similarity of the adult specimen with the male member. However, this supposed effect has never been demonstrated.

As mentioned in an earlier posting, Hubbard Pond and its surroundings are under consideration as the site for a heavy industrial type facility by the Regents of the University of Michigan. If the project goes forward, another piece of the critical natural habitat necessary to sustain these and other vulnerable creatures will be lost forever.
UPDATE: In a 12 March 2016 letter, the President of the University of Michigan indicates the proposed heavy industrial project for this site has been "paused". Plus, all applications for various construction permits are suspended and no construction contracts have been awarded.
While this turn of events appears positive, all it takes is a whim to re-activate the project. Until the final determination is STOP, the possibility of this easily preventable man-made disaster remains. Now is the time to stand-up. Mother Nature needs your voice.
