Away from any major roads or cities, this stump lies deep within the Old Forest. Behind the door lies a cozy home, in which resides a friendly old gnome. Once an adventurer, he now lives a quiet life in the woods, and if you are lucky enough to encounter him --and small enough to fit through his door-- he will offer for you to stay a while and have some tea.
Built for the 12x12 vignette category of Brickscalibur. The top portion in particular was heavily inspired by the imp's tree stump by Marcel V, though I didn't realize how similar it looked until I was mostly done building it! Hope you like it. :)
The Po Lin Monastery located at the village of Ngong Ping on Lantau Island in the Island District, Hong Kong.
The monastery was founded in 1906 by three monks visiting from Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland and was initially known simply as "The Big Hut". It was renamed to its present name in 1924. The main temple houses three bronze statues of the Buddha – representing his past, present and future lives – as well as many Buddhist scriptures.
The monastery boasts many prominent architectural structures, such as the Main Shrine Hall of Buddha, the Hall of Bodhisattva Skanda. It is also noted for making wooden bracelets that are only sold near the Tian Tan Buddha statue.
In 1918, three nuns ordained at this monastery established a private nunnery called Chi Chuk Lam on Lantau's Lower Keung Hill. The nunnery is dedicated to Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. There were about 20 jushi and nuns residing there in the 1950s, but now only an elderly abbess remains.
Tian Tan Buddha, a giant Buddha statue completed in 1993, is an extension of the monastery and is now a major tourist attraction in Hong Kong.

Birlot tide mill
This tide mill is located on the west coast of the South Island of Bréhat in Brittany
Its specificity lies in the seawater supply to the mechanism. It does not operate directly with the tidal current that would activate its wheel but nevertheless uses it to fill the pond that serves as its water reserve. In fact, the mill cannot turn if its wheel is submerged, the inertia being too great. On the other hand, when the sea has gone low enough (mid-tide in the case of Birlot), the mill's paddle wheel can be supplied with water by means of a valve that releases the necessary flow from the water reserve. The mill can then turn for 6 hours since the tide goes down for another 3 hours and rises for 3 hours to reach the wheel. This operation can take place twice every 24 hours, depending on needs.

Set of 6 - The Tiger's Nest & views along the way.
It's a while since I went there (Nov2017) but just such an amazing place I thought some people may have missed my previous images.
Taktsang Monastery, famously known as Tiger Nest Monastery, is located in Paro, Bhutan and probably one of the top tourist attractions.
Then name "Taktshang" - Tiger's Lair - was derived when the people in the locality came across a tigress residing in one of the caves. Legend has it the tigress actually was Yeshi Tshogyal, a consort of Guru Rinpoche, who has transformed herself into the fearsome animal to subjugate spirits.
Taktshang clings to the rock towering 800 meters (over 2,600 feet) above the valley, and is located 2,950 meters (9,678 feet) above the sea level.
The climb to the monastery takes about 3 hours or so on a comfortable pace. Frequent trekker and gym enthusiast can complete it in about 2 hours. The total distance walked is about 4 km one way with 700m in elevation gained. Part way up there is a very welcome café where you can rest for a while, I did not find it an easy walk (you can hire a donkey to take you part way up but couldn't do that of course).
Actually the first Burr Truss covered bridge in Lehigh Valley that my sweet west coast damsel and I ventured to that October day last fall, ironic that it’s image would be the last of the three Burr Truss covered bridges that I post, located in Northampton Pennsylvania is the Kreidersville Covered Bridge, built back in 1839 over the Hokendauqua Creek. In 1959 a grass roots movements by the local citizens recognizing the historical significance of the vanishing covered bridges when the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation State Highway Department wanted to knock down the bridge replace it with a concrete bridge, banded together to save the 116 foot long Hummel's - Koch's - Solt's Bridge as it was then known, named after the families that resided near the bridge and organized & formed the ‘The Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society of Pennsylvania’ named after the gentlemen whose patented truss design was used in the construction of this bridge and actually the other two which my west coast damsel and I visited on that day. The state has 250 of the remaining 1500 covered bridges left in the United States.

A waterbird and a member of the rail and Crake family, this is a large bird around 40-45 cms long and weighing half a kilo or more. They are quite large compared to the other waterbirds here, but they are so impossible to sight in the green fields where they reside. They are easily identified by the frontal red shield and calls.
The birds stick to the foot long grass in the countryside and hence very hard to spot - any sighting in our region is considered rare. I had sighted this bird many times, but just could manage a distant poor shot.
But one morning, on an open riverside road surrounded by grass and fields, several males were calling out and flying from one side of the road to the other. I was lucky to be able to get some shots of the bird much to my satisfaction. This one is a male, the female is more brownish in color.
Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

“The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.”
– Audrey Hepburn
Residing in Joice, Iowa, DGBX 1723 started off as DMIR 145 and was sold to Burlington Northern. It received a nose job at BN and eventually joined the ranks at BNSF where it was renumbered and repainted a couple times. The locomotive works the Gavilon facility here in Joice along the Union Pacific Fairmont Subdivision.
In the ethereal notes of a melody, magic resided, woven into the very fabric of sound. Each chord, a spell; every refrain, an incantation. Music, the enchantress's language, conjured emotions and painted dreams. Within its harmonies, the arcane whispered, and the mundane transformed into a symphony of enchantment.
What a sad picture...like someone is waiting forever for something. A loved one has passed and the sorrow of the survivor(s) is depicted in this memorial statue. Grief is also displayed...maybe a grief that can never be released until one has joined the loved one on the other side of hope.
Is there ever closure in grief?

A Sophia Song
Pushing through this myst
I ride on a melody
Cherry picked by my soul and me
Like a concrete statue I stand tall and still
I seek to own
Clouds of thought absorbing this silent song
Summoned with blue music
I go deep inside
Fire in the middle where pain and pleasure preside
Walking through this flame
I open my eyes
To gaze across a valley where my Sophia resides

This little blonde bombshell resides in Adelaide Zoo and is quite the stunner. She was born with the normal colours of a meerkat but her fur has faded to white over time. While the reasons why are unknown, this colour change makes her a very special little lady indeed.
~~~~Phlegm was born in North Wales and he currently resides in Sheffield, UK – England’s Steel City.
He is a world-known cartoonist and illustrator. He is also well known for his self-published comics and highly creative street art. Phlegm’s work is distinctively detailed composed of odd figures and a narrative structure.
The majority of Phlegm’s artwork is strictly illustration-based. He leaves his street artwork and murals for his cartoon-based art. In fact, that majority of his large characters originate from his comics and they are often spray painted onto very large walls. Phlegm prefers to paint his comic work with black Indian ink and a dip pen. He uses color only when he is screen-printing or painting large murals and other objects.
One can say that the only difference between his comics and his murals is the working space; the size and surface where he places his artwork. His art style is highly unique and recognizable making him the most adored street artist. The artist’s work is striking and it will not leave anyone ambiguous. His works are mostly featured in the urban landscape, and run-down spaces. His surreal illustrations tell a story untold, as his imaginative creatures explore the visual narrative.
What makes him so unique is the way he sees street art. Phlegm believes his murals become part of the cities’ architecture being influenced by the surrounding, which is a wonderful way on how to see art.~~~~
The above seen frame was taken at Nikiforos, Dramas the village where I permanently reside ... Not a sea - related area in any way believe me !!! That is why when I saw this amazing, old yet still in good shape fishing boat proudly standing only a few meters away from the village's railway station, I was truly taken aback ... Even the iron construction made to support the three huge oil lamps used to "immobilize" fishes' attention is in excellent shape as well ... All that it could make good use of is some anti-corrosive oil paint ...
I don't like losing such amazing, unusual photos ... But being a photographer that places particular emphasis on the ambient light that surrounds my frames, I had to wait for the sunset to come ... A nice, quiet, peaceful sunset that made my wait worth while ...
A little history of this bridge:
The Taranaki Herald reported on 24 April, 1883 that, "the lucky winner who drew The Poet in the Auckland Autumn Handicap Sweepstake resides in New Plymouth, and has determined, in consequence of his good fortune, to erect a suspension bridge across the lake in the Recreation Grounds, to be called, we believe, "The Poet's Corner."
The lucky punter was James T. Davis, a local New Plymouth businessman, and the sum donated was £150. In the end the bridge was a fixed wooden structure with a span of 70 feet and has always been known as "The Poet's Bridge".
It was designed by Mr Henry Vere Barclay and the contruction was the responsibility of Mr Hooker. He was assisted by Mr William Campbell (carpenter), Mr James Bellringer (painter) and Mr James Revell (blacksmith). The bridge was officially opened on the evening of 10 March, 1884 by the Mayoress, Mrs Bayly.
In a tragic incident, Mr J.T. Davis was found dead in the lake, opposite the bathing shed, on the morning of 18 September 1891.
The original bridge was rebuilt in 1938. Its colour scheme is based on the famous red-lacquered Shinkyo Bridge at Nikko,Japan.
Nubian Village isn't a singular village, but rather refers to the Nubian communities residing on Elephantine Island, located on the Nile River near Aswan, Egypt. These communities, primarily Siou and Koti, offer a vibrant glimpse into Nubian culture, known for its:
Colorful houses: The most striking feature is the brightly painted houses with geometric patterns, reflecting the Nubian spirit and adding a cheerful touch to the landscape.
Warm hospitality: Nubians are renowned for their welcoming nature and often invite visitors to their homes for a cup of Karkade, a traditional hibiscus flower tea.
Rich history: The Nubians have a long and fascinating history, evident in their unique language, customs, and traditions. They were skilled builders, farmers, and warriors, and their influence can be seen throughout the region.
While the island has seen some development in recent times, it retains a peaceful and rural atmosphere, offering a welcome contrast to the bustling city of Aswan across the river.
Here are some additional points to consider:
Accessibility: Exploring the villages can be challenging for those with mobility limitations due to uneven terrain and narrow pathways.
Dress code: As Elephantine Island is more conservative than Aswan, dressing modestly is recommended, especially when visiting local homes or religious sites.
Best time to visit: The later afternoon offers pleasant temperatures and the opportunity to witness the captivating sunset over the Nile from one of the island's cafes or tea shops.
Visiting the Nubian villages is a worthwhile experience for those seeking a cultural immersion and a glimpse into the unique way of life of the Nubian people.
Shorin-in Temple resides in the north part of Kyoto, Ohara. The temple was founded by Jakuren, a zen monk, in 1013 and was refurbished in 1777. The temple belongs to Tendai sect Zen Buddhism.
After my visit to Kiyomizudera Temple, I changed my mind and headed to far north from the central Kyoto, hoping to capture some winter landscape images. Shorinin Temple locates next to Sanzen-in Temple, a National Treasure. I could not resist to capture beauty of the architecture, which was decorated by pure white snow!!
Did you know that in Hindu mythology there is a strong, beautiful warrior goddess, who rides a tiger or lion? She is none other than Durga, the invincible. Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva created Goddess Durga, as an avatar of Ma Shakti using their energies, to save devalok, where the Gods resided and living beings on earth from demon Mahishasura, as neither of the three could vanquish the demon. Goddess Durga, with weapons provided to her by the three Gods took over the task of vanquishing Mahishasura.She came to earth to kill the demon Mahishasura. After a long and hard battle, she killed Mahishasura and restored the heaven, devalok to the Gods, which was previously acquired by him.
Worship of Durga
Ma Durga as she is fondly called, is invoked for protection from the powers of evil. The triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura symbolizes the victory of good over the evil. Durga Puja is observed for her victory. Ma Durga has been worshiped from about 400 A.D or probably earlier than that, to the present time. The day of victory is celebrated as Vijayadashami or Dussehra.
Navaratri
The actual period of the worship however may be on the preceding nine days, Navaratri followed by the last day called Vijayadashami in North India or five days in Bengal. Nine aspects of Durga known as Navadurga are worshipped, one by one during the nine-day festival. In South India especially Andhra Pradesh, Navaratri is also celebrated and the goddess is dressed each day as a different devi meaning goddess.
The word devi in Sanskrit means divine or a shining presence. The nine manifestations of Durga worshipped during Navaratri in the month of Ashwin of the Hindu calendar are Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Skandamata, Katyayani,Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidaatri.
The Garba
Durga is associated with two mountain ranges, the Himalayas in the north and the VIndhyas in central India. In Mysore, which originated from Mahishasooru in Karnataka, she is worshiped as Chamundeshwari, the patron goddess of the city during Dussehra. In Gujarat it is celebrated as the last day of Navaratri, during which the Garba dance is performed to celebrate the victory of Durga as ‘Mahishasura-mardini’.
Durga puja
‘Durga Puja’ is celebrated in Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tripura, Assam and Bangladesh. The Goddess is worshipped as Mother Durga or Ma Durga, the Mother Goddess being the symbol of all the true qualities which define the Supreme Being. Durga is the representation of infinite power and purity, which resides within every being.The Devi Mahatmya or Devi Mahatmyam is a Hindu philosophical text describing the Goddess as the supreme power and creator of the universe. It is part of the Markandeya Purana. It is recited during Navratri celebrations, the Durga Puja festival,and in Durga temples across India. UNESCO has accorded the Intangible Cultural Heritage tag to Durga Puja on 15th December, 2021.
Durga in Art
Durga images can be seen carved on many ancient Indian temples and caves and is seen in murals as well. Durga images began to be available in miniature painting from 16th century to the 20th century. Durga worship is found all over India, more so in Eastern India. especially Bengal. Statues of Durga have been carved out of clay, stone and bronze and painted as patachitra in Odisha and Bengal. Painting styles in Rajasthani and Pahari have depicted the Goddess in its various schools.
Into the depths, where secrets reside,
A world of feelings, gently tied.
Dare to stare, don't fear the gaze,
Let empathy light your soul's maze.
Into the depths, where dreams take flight,
A universe of day and night.
Dare to see, beyond the shell,
Find the truth, the story to tell.
Into the depths, where love may bloom,
A silent language, without a room.
Dare to feel, the tender touch,
And know you're loved, oh so much.
There is archaeological evidence of people residing in Henley since the second century as part of the Romano-British period.[2] The first record of Henley as a substantial settlement is from 1179, when it is recorded that King Henry II "had bought land for the making of buildings". King John granted the manor of Benson and the town and manor of Henley to Robert Harcourt in 1199.[citation needed] A church at Henley is first mentioned in 1204. In 1205 the town received a tax for street paving, and in 1234 the bridge is first mentioned. In 1278 Henley is described as a hamlet of Benson with a chapel. The street plan was probably established by the end of the 13th century. As a demesne of the crown it was granted in 1337 to John de Molyns, whose family held it for about 250 years.
The black-headed gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) is a small gull that breeds in much of Europe and Asia, and also in coastal eastern Canada. Most of the population is migratory and winters further south, but some birds reside in the milder westernmost areas of Europe. Some black-headed gulls also spend the winter in northeastern North America, where it was formerly known as the common black-headed gull. As is the case with many gulls, it was previously placed in the genus Larus.
This gull is 38–44 cm (15–17 in) long with a 94–105 cm (37–41 in) wingspan. In flight, the white leading edge to the wing is a good field mark. The summer adult has a chocolate-brown head (not black, although does look black from a distance), pale grey body, black tips to the primary wing feathers, and red bill and legs. The hood is lost in winter, leaving just 2 dark spots. Immature birds have a mottled pattern of brown spots over most of the body. It breeds in colonies in large reed beds or marshes, or on islands in lakes, nesting on the ground. Like most gulls, it is highly gregarious in winter, both when feeding or in evening roosts. It is not a pelagic species and is rarely seen at sea far from coasts.
The black-headed gull is a bold and opportunistic feeder. It eats insects, fish, seeds, worms, scraps, and carrion in towns, or invertebrates in ploughed fields with equal relish. It is a noisy species, especially in colonies, with a familiar "kree-ar" call. Its scientific name means laughing gull.
This species takes two years to reach maturity. First-year birds have a black terminal tail band, more dark areas in the wings, and, in summer, a less fully developed dark hood. Like most gulls, black-headed gulls are long-lived birds, with a maximum age of at least 32.9 years recorded in the wild, in addition to an anecdote now believed of dubious authenticity regarding a 63-year-old bird.
When you finally left the compound residing in the middle of the skeleton of the city, you truly could see just how devastating the outbreak had been. Toxic waste bags still dotted the streets. Dirt and destruction, left by the early attempts to contain the virus, could be seen for miles. There was no hope here. “C’mon Daisy-girl. Nothin’ left for us here.” The woman called as the pup sniffed at a pile of trash. She was quick to run after her owner, even if she was clumsy while doing it. The little interaction left a bit of a smile on Stellas face and a new sense of determination in her gut.
Love seating on these rocks... Love this place; Brooklyn, Brooklyn coffee, Brooklyn bagels, our shops... Silly little things, but they make me very happy
One of my favorite wall murals is this one painted by artist Morgan Bricca. It resides on the back entrance to the Crouching Tiger Restaurant in Redwood City. The red door on the right leads into the restaurant and to some of the best Chinese food I've eaten. The road to the left leads into a beautiful scene in Mainland China. Sometimes it's hard to decide which way to go.
I did NOT take this picture but it resides in my collection and a matched set of 4 Great Western GP30's is definitely worth sharing. It has good documentation with all the facts printed on the frame EXCEPT the photographers name. I don't recognize the printing so I can't even make a guess as who took it.
Vital information includes at Chicago, June 11 1967. Note some roundhouse wag has already written CNW above the number boards on the second unit. This is a typical 9000HP consist for the CGW achieved by combining either 6 F's, 4 GP30's or 3 SD40's. Most of the pictures I've seen indicate that they were pretty consistent about keeping the consists matched, something that was about to change when the Northwestern took over.
......one of Glacier National Park’s most photographed spots.
Island Folk Tale;
Wild Goose Island is in the middle of St. Mary Lake. A long time ago, two native tribes resided on opposite sides of St. Mary’s. Even though they seldom fought, they had no interaction. One day, a strikingly handsome warrior from one tribe noticed a beautiful woman on the other swimming toward the island. He couldn’t resist her beauty immediately swam to meet her on the island. The two met, clicked instantly, spoke for hours, and became engaged. They promised to meet again tomorrow morning on the island and each swam home.
Upon reaching their tribal shores, they realized they had created a massive problem. Each tribe’s elders demanded that the engagement be broken off. Well, the two lovers didn’t agree and met each other the next morning on the island. After a quick discussion, they decided to run away and find their own land to marry and live. When the tribal elders found out, they sent war parties to retreive their members and were determined to bring them home, no matter wha the cost.
Thankfully, the Great Spirit had kept its eyes on the two lovers. Taking pity on them, he transformed them into geese so they could fly away and be together forever. When the tribal warriors arrived on the island, all they found were two geese, tenderly rubbing necks. They flew away and never returned. From then on, the small island in the center of St. Mary’s Lake in Glacier National Park was known as Wild Goose Island.
