I was finally able to visit The Succulent Cafe in Oceanside today, they are located at 322 N Cleveland St, in Oceanside, CA. I had been dying to go, I follow them on instagram and just had not gotten over there. There were tons of succulents, and gardens to purchase along with Teas and Coffees. The owner was super friendly and the joint is wall to wall succulents I was so excited to be there. There were huge living walls, and vertical gardens. I snapped a bazillion pics and enjoyed every second! I enjoyed a delicious iced tea of the day, and cannot wait until my next visit!!!
Just one of my little side projects when taking a break from sewing. This little lady is named Geraldine! Check out my other creations in my Etsy store, Wolfinsheepsclothing!
The 3rd Annual Fashion Trashion event at the University of Minnesota, Morris. This event is run by the Studio Art folks, who have students in the intro 3-D studio course create costumes out of recycled, reused, or repurposed materials. This is a always a huge success, with lots of really creative work and a ton of fun for the audience.
Jess Larson is the MC, Jennie Nellis taught the course this year, and the judges are Troy Goodnough (Sustainability Coordinator), Jennifer Deane (History), Jacquie Johnson (Chancellor), Ray Schultz (Theatre), and Hilda Ladner (Multi-ethnic Programs)
I'm on a purging streak. Items thrown away today:
(1) a crystal nail file (gift from my mother)
(2) Chia herb garden (gift from my mother)
(3) used swimming mask with snorkel (gift from my mother)
(4) staple-less stapler (gift from my mother)
I shudder through the gift-giving portion of the holidays. The memory of my 16th birthday is still fresh in my mind. Many of my peers were getting cars for their birthdays. I received an electronic pencil sharpener. I'm still baffled by that one.
She did get it right one year with a beautiful linen shirt brought home from Hong Kong.
Rarely seen item these days. Somehow I did manage to hang onto one, who knows why. But then -- voila! -- I discovered that it's just the right size to make a hard shell carrying case for my Amazon Fire tablet. If you hang onto something long enough, a repurpose function eventually will come along. Usually anyhow.
I'm sure one of my contacts is totally familiar with the item but he's probably the only one.
(BTW, added to the group "Too much stuff" because this is a good example of my (perhaps bad) habit of hanging onto too much stuff!)
This is a bench freshly made from an antique braided headboard and footboard from a 1940s braided bed.
The measurements are:
39 inches tall
59 inches wide
18 inches deep.
Using repurposed fabrics can be limiting... like when you absoutely NEED a certain color.... but it also forces more creativity. I am working on a bag where I used the satin lining from the coat as part of the applique! a leaf & strm are satin... where the rest is wool. I interfaced it and used it as a wool or cotton :)
I love the subtle richness of sheen and texture it adds to this bag.... in progress.

I repurposed a man's dress shirt into this fun tunic. Instructions on my blog here:

(As of today - June 18th - I only have part one up, but will get the rest up within the next few days)
Snap on.
I used Amy Karol's pattern from "Bend-the-Rules Sewing."

I bought this darling apron on Etsy from Georgia Peachez. It's made from vintage fabrics and trims and I totally love it!
It didn't fit me quite as well as I liked (I'm short and curvy), so I made a few minor alterations. I folded the waistband over to make it a little shorter. The apron was originally flat across the front and I was having trouble getting things into the pockets, so I added two pleats to the front. This is a "pre-pleat" picture.

I have an old pair of stockings that I'm not sure I ever really wore. I bought them loving the texture and design, but I don't know that I ever really wore them.
I cut a section of the leg off to wear around my dreads. It's a little too tight (I'm hoping it'll stretch) for wearing as a headband, but has turned out to be perfect for use as a ponytail or bun holder!
Repurposing Rocks!
