A glimpse of what the post-fossil-fuel world might look like. A repurposed filling station in Tucson, Arizona.

Built in 1873, the United Brethren Union Chapel is now a private residence. It's located at the corner of Badger Creek Road and 105th Street, south of Van Meter. There is also small cemetery here (not shown) to the east or right side of the photo.

Fire Hose Houses were used on the Union Pacific railroad to cover a hydrant and store hoses and other firefighting equipment. When they were no longer needed they were sometimes repurposed as outhouses. This is the third one I have found and there is just enough of the Fire Hose sign to identify it. When used as a hose house it would have had a hydrant inside connected to a water line through a hole that was convenient after the outhouse conversion. One of the hose houses I found still had a crank on the outside that must have worked a hose reel. This outhouse is at a corral on the Crow Creek Road, Bear Lake County, Idaho.

Some good stuffs at The Men's Dept (the bed by Aria and the repurposed bicycle part furniture/lights by Junk). Go get it!

This is the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge located in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Many years ago it was repurposed from a Rail Bridge to a walking bridge. In order to visit a family member, we drove from Digby, N.S. to Fredericton N.B.. We had reserved the 4:30pm Ferry but at 3:pm, we received an email stating the Ferry had been cancelled, and in fact never left Fredericton. Bastards!

We kept our cool and decided to make the 6.5 hour drive. We did however, enjoy the scenery along the way. My compliments to those responsible for designing the highway system in Nova Scotia. Other Provinces could learn from those engineers, and how to move traffic both effectively and quickly.

This small building has served many businesses over the years. Not sure what it is now.

just because it isn't 'new' doesn't mean it hasn't got some use-- right??

Stopping at a bakery in for a late breakfast on one of our walks, led to finding this chair, repurposed from a wine barrel. While it looks good, it actually wasn't that comfortable!

A grain mill was erected in 1860 on the site of the present Museum Küppersmühle by industrialist Wilhelm Vedder, one of the founding fathers of Duisburg’s Inner Harbour. The mill closed down in 1972.

The conversion of the grain mill into the Küppersmühle Museum was completed in 1999.

Back in the fall 2011 this was the scene just off Broad Street in downtown Nevada City. Today it looks virtually the same except the buildings are now home to our local radio station, KVMR. Actually, the interior has been entirely rebuilt to include the radio station and modern office space. In keeping with the town's historical charter, the old siding was removed, cleaned up, and reused on the exterior of the new building. Here in Nevada City things manage to change while staying somewhat the same.

In it's former life, this rusted out relic was an Exxon Service vessel. Now it serves as set dressing for a faux waterfront resort town of sorts, at Lake Sumpter Landing in The Villages, Florida.

As has been mentioned in a few comments below...the only thing missing here is the oil spill!

We have all been in a similar situation, I was on my knees with the macro lens to do some crocus shots when this bee happened by. I had to take the shot but with a far too slow shutter. The blurred wings and antennae don't make for great photos but by the time I recovered, it had moved on.
