Cripta (1479-1482).

The color green represents envy and jealousy. The phrase "green with envy" is a fairly common saying that is said to come from Shakespeare's metaphorical use of color in both Othello and The Merchant of Venice. In Othello, Iago uses "green-eyed monster" to describe the jealousy that threatens to drive Othello mad.

While this may not be the most artistic shot I've ever taken it represents a pretty lucky catch for me. While a South Shore job works their yard in Burnham, IL a 1x1 unit coal train off of UP and bound for NIPSCO at Michigan City with a South Shore crew in the cab rolls by on the main. Catching the NIPSCO train under wire and at a distinctive South Shore location was a winner for me. Fortunately with the 'flying camera' I could adjust to both trains moving to catch a workable shot. An attempt to pictorially represent the concept of sound and, especially, eerie noises echoing through a haunted door or gate…

The shot was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's troop of echoes which came flowing through the door in his poem lines of ‘The Haunted Palace.’

My oldest granddaughter will likely enroll for the 2021 freshman class. (I assumed that “Black” is not a color per se. The subject of Black/White as color is debated on the web with no true consensus.) The decal is on a dark rear widow of my MINI which I selectively under exposed to achieve the background.

This is the poem displayed on the table:

The Fallen Soldier's Table

by Jon M. Nelson

The rose stands for the family with faith and love for those who serve,

They're held with the highest respect for that's what they deserve.

A yellow ribbon is for the loyalty waiting for those serving abroad,

As we pray that they're watched over and kept close to God.

An inverted glass represents that the fallen can no longer toast,

They cannot be an honored guest or such a gracious host.

A lemon wedge represents the bitter loss of the fallen soldier's life,

That causes so much pain like the sharp edge of a knife.

The salt is put in place for all the loved ones' shedding tears,

For the soldier is no longer present to help calm our fears.

The candle stands tall for the blood that the soldier shed,

It holds a place of honor and represented in red.

The empty chair symbolizes the missing comrade who isn't here,

Now it stands alone for the voice that we can't hear.

Although painted to represent a USAAC OA-10 Catalina based in Halesworth, Suffolk in WW2, this is actually an ex Canadian example which served the RCAF as '11005'.

The original 433915 aircraft operated out of Halesworth airfield in the role of air sea rescue during 1945 and on 30th March that year after landing to provide help to of all things another stricken flying boat the aircraft lost use of one engine. With high seas that meant she was stuck just a few miles off the Dutch coast. Whilst bobbing around on the surf on the first night a pair of ME210's strafed the Catalina to such an extent that she was listing and no longer airworthy. Four days later after enduring constant seasickness and regular immersion in freezing sea water the crew were rescued by a launch sent out from Great Yarmouth. A second launch then destroyed and sank the Catalina rather than have her fall into enemy hands.

For the above reasons the preservation society chose to adopt the identity of the sunken sister aircraft. The preserved aircraft is now based at Duxford with Catalina Aircraft Ltd.

This image represents a few hours of experimenting to try and create something worth photographing, as is often the same with water droplet refraction photography. I used some fun new tools to do this, too!

First off, the “behind-the-scenes” image illustrates everything pretty well: donkom.ca/bts/_1090402.jpg . I’m using a Platypod Max with some gooseneck arms and a couple of Litra torches for all of the lighting here, which you can currently get all together as a bundle from Platypod as part of their Black Friday special: platypod.com/black-friday-2019

I cannot recall where I got the black porcelain container, but I know previously I’ve found bowls at thrift stores that work: you need it a couple inches deep with a relatively flat bottom, because under the water you’ll place a “third hand tool” that clamps the foreground object – in this case, a Dandelion seed. The clamp doesn’t have to be very far submerged, so long as no light falls on it and the camera is perpendicular to the surface of the water, the reflection will overpower it.

The Camera and lens is the Lumix S1R with the 24-105mm F/4 kit lens, a great combination for macro when paired with the “high-resolution” mode. This mode allows for the camera to quadruple its resolution by taking multiple photos and slightly shifting the sensor between each shot to really amplify your details, which indirectly overcomes a problem in macro photography: depth of field. I don’t need a 187MP image, but I can shoot an image with such detail with the intension of throwing most of it away via cropping. I only really need a 20MP image, which is what I’ve got here! Getting farther away from your subject gives you more depth, so the best part of this? No focus stacking required. This is just a single frame.

I love the gooseneck arms which are so much easier to position for shots like this than a flash or even a continuous light on a tabletop tripod; you can get the slight very close and accurately placed to the subject. This is important, because the light is not hitting the Dandelion seeds, it’s just hitting the background!

Simple ingredients at play, and we have some fun results. Originally I was going to use three seeds, but two just felt better, like two people dancing. It’s difficult to anthropomorphize water droplets, but I think this comes close!

If you haven’t seen my new macro book, it’ll be out in Q1 2020 and can be pre-ordered here: skycrystals.ca/product/pre-order-macro-photography-the-un...

Although Pacific Harbour is 2.5 hours drive from Denaru, it is well worth the 5 hour return trip to dive with the bull sharks! Beqa Adventure Divers were awesome and provided not only the safety (of divers and the sharks) as well as the background on conservation and diversity of the sharks. In particular, the feeding is not done every day and that biopsy tests have shown that the tuna heads that they eat represent about 1% of their diet ie they eat a lot elsewhere as well.

There were about 25-35 bull sharks for the first dive at 30m and 25-30 bull sharks on the second dive at 25m. In addition, they have 2 other depths where we saw different sharks and sizes down to 0.5m sharks at 4m depth.

A wonderful day and I will definitely to it again (albeit expensive) if I go back to Fiji!

about their conservation work. There is nothing else like this in the world and I am convinced that this practice is not harmful.

In Old Chinese Folklore, Xi Wangmu was the Queen of the West and deemed immortal. Later, during the Tang Dynasty (618-906 AD), she became Daoist and forbade women to sing or do anything not considered correct for the Chinese women in the family. A young girl mourned that she could never sing, and she was told to find 'the bluebird of happiness'. Her story stopped there, so we don't know what happened.

The bluebird is supposed to represent Happiness and Cheer, in the folklore of many countries since then, in Operas, plays, and songs; Namely "Somewhere over the Rainbow"; Harold Arlens wrote the song in 1938 (The Wizard of Oz:"Somewhere over the Rainbow, Bluebirds fly"

Jumping to now, here are some Bluebirds at the mealworm feeder in the back yard...I hope they continue into Spring and build their nests here for many chicks!

Where ever you are or a believer (Do you believe in fairies?), I hope you find your own Bluebird of Happiness!

Protea is both the botanical name and the English common name of a genus of South African flowering plants, sometimes also called sugarbushes or fynbos. In local tradition, the protea flower represents change and hope. The extraordinary richness and diversity of species characteristic of the Cape flora are thought to be caused in part by the diverse landscape, where populations can become isolated from each other and in time develop into separate species. The main vectors responsible for the transfer of pollen in protea cultivation are birds, insects, and wind. Some Protea species exhibit both self-pollination and cross-pollination as a method of reproduction. Cross-pollination is preferred, though, as a method of reproduction because it provides genetic diversity in the population. When cultivating proteas, breeders use hand pollination as a controlled method to transfer pollen from one flower to another. Proteas usually flower during spring. The general structure of their flower heads consists of a mass of flowers on a woody receptacle. The ovary is protected by the receptacle, thus is not seen when looking at the flower, but the anthers are present at the top of the flower, which can then easily transfer the pollen to the vectors. 17529

Merci encore, Patrick!

The art representing Wales on the Millennium walkway in Cardiff

Brilliant works of art have appeared on the riverside walkway near Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in time for the Rugby World Cup.

The street art represents the teams playing in the tournament and has appeared in the last few days.

It is part of a Grow Wild competition hosted by the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, and the Big Lottery Fund.

This view represents a vehicle that not only served in the Hartlepool fleet for many years, but which survives in preservation. Roe-bodied Leyland PD2 BEF 28C (fleet number 28) was one of a pair delivered in 1965 but looks older by virtue of its exposed radiator, a feature that had become increasingly uncommon by that time. Hartlepool's sole concession to modern trends (as far as double-deckers were concerned) was to fit platform doors to some of its PD2s - no doubt greatly appreciated on the exposed coastal road to Seaton Carew. These were the company's last double-deckers, with the fleet progressively becoming all single-deck.

One of the PD2s was converted to open-top and number 28 lingered as a training and special event vehicle, ultimately passing to Eastern Scottish for further use as a training vehicle (retaining Hartlepool livery throughout its stay). Nick Larkin bought it for preservation and I came across it at the 1994 Delaine Running Day looking a little worse for wear. This digital representation is based on preserved Lincoln Corporation RFE 416, photographed at Lincoln in 2009 (18-Jan-10)

This image represents the western part of the supernova remnant. I have taken this image under not completetly darkened skies. First I took the Ha images, then after 2:00 am (moon was set), I took the OIII data.

For blending channels, I used "Pixelmath" in Pixinsight. This is the "classical" HOO image. H-alpha to red only and OIII to green and blue. The red is coming out best this way, I think. When I take e.g. 30% ha in the green, the red is more orange like.

I also made an artificial luminance image and added the ha channel to the OIII channel. After that, I did my common processing steps (DBE, Deconvolution, Morphological Transformation, HDR,Unsharp mask...).

I am qute happy with the data I have captured in just 3 hours.

Excerpt from Wikipedia:

It is the oldest museum in New Zealand.

The museum underwent extensive renovations during 2011 and 2012, reopening to the public with a new name, Toitū Otago Settlers Museum in December 2012. A competition had been put to the community to submit possible complementary names for the new building, with the name Toitu suggested and submitted by the Holmes family. This name, meaning "to remain unchanged", represent the area of water, land, and sky of this particular area, and was the name of a former stream which ran close to where the museum now stands.

The improvements include a new structure attached to the northern end of the former building and increased exhibition size. The north wing includes a new main entrance, gift shop, and cafe, as well as housing Josephine, and is officially called the Josephine Foyer.

...at Beamish Museum in County Durham, represents the home of a well-to-do tenant farmer in the 1820s. Pockerley actually had a tenant farmer until 1990, when the hall was 'annexed' by the museum, opening to the public five years later following extensive development and restoration.

Pockerley (the name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon words 'pock' or 'pokor', meaning 'pimple' or 'bag-like', and 'ley', meaning a woodland clearing) has stood on its hilltop site for several centuries, the earliest record of a settlement dating from a rental survey for the Bishop of Durham in 1183, though its defensive attributes suggest that there could have been an Iron Age hill fort there. Pictured is the main farmhouse, or 'new' house – dating from the late 1700s! – with the adjoining (though never connected) mediaeval strong house, or 'old' house, to the right. In the foreground is the ornamental section of the Hall's terraced gardens.

This is a belated upload, following a lull in shooting that prompted me to trawl through my old photographs in search of any 'hidden gems' I might previously have passed over (as you do). The original colour shot pre-dates my acquisition of the Nik Collection, and I thought it was a good candidate for what has rapidly become my favourite preset in Silver Efex Pro: 'Antique Plate II', which I am still determined not to over-use! :-)
