Protea is both the botanical name and the English common name of a genus of South African flowering plants, sometimes also called sugarbushes or fynbos. The family is Proteaceae. In local tradition, the protea flower represents change and hope. The extraordinary richness and diversity of species characteristic of the Cape flora are thought to be caused in part by the diverse landscape, where populations can become isolated from each other and in time develop into separate species. The main vectors responsible for the transfer of pollen in protea cultivation are birds, insects, and wind. Some Protea species exhibit both self-pollination and cross-pollination as a method of reproduction. Cross-pollination is preferred, though, as a method of reproduction because it provides genetic diversity in the population. When cultivating proteas, breeders use hand pollination as a controlled method to transfer pollen from one flower to another. Proteas usually flower during spring. The general structure of their flower heads consists of a mass of flowers on a woody receptacle. The ovary is protected by the receptacle, thus is not seen when looking at the flower, but the anthers are present at the top of the flower, which can then easily transfer the pollen to the vectors. 11113

The picture represents the feelings and point of view of the intelligence behind the camera. This disease of our age is boredom and a good photographer must combat it. The way to do this is by invention – by surprise. When I say a good picture has surprise value I mean that it stimulates my thinking and intrigues me. The best way to achieve surprise quality is by avoiding clichés. Imitation is the greatest danger of the young photographer.

This image represents an unexpected sight. Exploring areas near Kanab, Utah, we were on our way to Old Paria, which was billed as a ghost town with a wooden structure which would make for a wonderful foreground against the striated hills behind. We read that the structure was actually built as a movie prop and was used in westerns, including The Outlaw Josey Wales. Supposedly, it was damaged and moved to higher ground nearby to protect it from floods. We found, or rather didn't find the structure, which we're pretty sure no longer exists. At least we couldn't find it, and it wasn't for lack of trying. We were rewarded, however, with this view along the way. Luckily, the area had been dusted with snow that morning, adding a delightful frosting to the hills and gullies and the remnants of the snowstorm in the sky.

... but we do not represent hope for them!

Let us keep the flowers in the soil; no plucking!

The Giardini Botanici Villa Taranto (16 hectares) are botanical gardens located on the western shore of Lake Maggiore in Pallanza, Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Italy.

The gardens were established 1931-1940 by Scotsman Neil McEacharn who bought an existing villa and its neighboring estates, cut down more than 2000 trees, and undertook substantial changes to the landscape

Today the gardens contain nearly 20,000 plant varieties, representing more than 3,000 species, set among 7 km of paths. Among its collections are azalea, cornus, greenhouses of Victoria amazonica, and 300 types of dahlias. It also contains a small herbarium and the founder's mausoleum.

Momotus aequatorialis (Andean motmot / Barranquero)

The Andean Motmot, as the English name implies, is the Andean representative of the "Blue-crowned Motmot" complex. For many years, all members of this group were considered to be conspecific, but this group now is reclassified as representing five different species. The Andean Motmot occurs in humid montane forests of the Andes mountains of South America, from Colombia south to Bolivia. Andean motmot is a big bird about 50 cm from beak to tail.

These birds often sit still, and in their dense forest habitat can be difficult to see, despite their size. They eat small prey such as insects and lizards, and will also regularly take fruit.

Painted ceramic benches representing all the provinces in Spain are arranged round the square.

It was built because of the Ibero-american Exhibition of 1929, held in Seville. Its creator was Aníbal González. He mixed a style inspired by the Renaissance with typical elements from the city: exposed brick, ceramics and wrought iron (worked by Domingo Prida). Its floor plan is semicircular. It is dominated by 2 towers, one on each side of the enclosed area, which frame the central building where the main rooms are. Between the two towers runs a network of galleries with an arcade of semicircular arches leading to exits in different parts of the square, where a fountain stands.

The word sail, a monument to poetry, is the name of a steel sculpture by Heinrich Popp.

The sculpture stands on an open field northwest of Sotzweiler, the birthplace of the sculptor and today a district of the Saarland municipality of Tholey in the district of St. Wendel. On an elevation of about 338 metres above NHN, the sculpture represents a landmark visible from afar.

The word sail consists of two sail-shaped triangles, one of which stands on the top and which are twisted against each other. The two halves of the sail, made of stainless steel, are welded together at their highest point. At the same time, the empty space between the two steel plates also has a sail-like shape, depending on the point of view.

The monument, a gift from Heinrich Popp to his home community, was erected in 2005 after several years of planning and execution. The two steel plates were cast in the Dillinger Hütte and rolled to a thickness of 3 cm. The sculpture has a height of 13 meters and a total weight of approx. 30 tons.

The term word sail is also the name of a writing and poetry competition initiated by the artist at participating schools in Saarland.

The Thurisaz rune (ᚦ) represents the ability to confront obstacles, the strength to endure adversity, and the protection of mighty forces. Like the thorn it symbolizes, this rune reminds you that true strength lies not just in attack, but in defense and resilience. It suggests that you have the inner fortitude to face any challenge that stands in your way, urging you to stand firm and embrace your power.

Thurisaz is a rune of both conflict and transformation, showing that through struggle, growth is achieved. It calls on you to harness your inner strength wisely, channeling your energy to break through barriers and drive positive change. More than just a force of destruction, Thurisaz is a guardian—its presence in your path signifies that you are not alone, as unseen forces shield and guide you. Whether in battle, personal trials, or major life transitions, this rune is a reminder that your resilience is your greatest weapon, and through perseverance, victory is within reach.

"Thurisaz is the force that breaks and the strength that endures—embrace the storm, for it forges the warrior within."

The design for the Japanese Garden was conceived in 1970, construction started in 1971 and it was completed in 1974. It represents a gentle, horticultural gesture of sister ship between two sister cities, Buffalo and Kanazawa, Japan. Located on 6 acres along Delaware Park’s Mirror Lake, the original design contained over 1,000 plantings, nearly 20 globe-type lights, three small islands connected to the mainland by bridges.

After the siege of Sarajevo, the house was rebuilt and reopened again in 1997; during 2005 another bigger reconstruction has been done: roof, pavement, installations and restoration of pictures.

¿Estaremos dispuestos a ello?.

Saludos.

The Saffron-crowned Tanager (Tangara xanthocephala) is a breathtaking subject, and capturing it at La Minga Ecolodge near Cali, Colombia, was a rewarding challenge. This Andean gem, perched elegantly on a mossy branch, stands out with its vivid saffron-yellow crown and iridescent turquoise plumage. The soft, diffused light filtering through the cloud forest canopy provided an ideal setting to highlight the bird’s intricate feather details and the rich textures of its surroundings. This image represents the delicate balance of nature and the beauty of photographing wildlife in its natural habitat.

For this shot, I used the Canon RF 100-500mm lens at its maximum focal length of 500mm, allowing me to capture the tanager from a respectful distance without disturbing its behavior. A shutter speed of 1/500 sec froze the subtle movements of the bird, while an aperture of f/6.7 ensured a creamy background that isolates the subject beautifully. ISO 800 balanced the low light conditions, retaining vibrant colors and sharp details. These technical choices reflect my approach to bird photography—blending precision and respect for the natural world to create images that tell a story.

This photo is from Marado [Mara Island]. Marado represents the southernmost point in South Korean territory. The island is about 30km from the southern port of Jeju and the trip by ferry took about 15-20 minutes. The island is comparatively small (approximately 0.3 square kilometers) and you can walk around its entirety at a leisurely pace in about 90 minutes. Marado is home to about 90 residents and "…has long been known for its population being composed of strong women and docile men." (Wiki). While there, we saw traditional "haenyeo" women divers actively working at their trade of free diving to gather seafood.

With two Le Mans wins, dozens of grand prix victories, five Targa Florios, a Manufacturers’ Championship, and the build of some of the pre-war period’s most celebrated sports and luxury automobiles to its credit, it is no wonder that the Bugatti marque is regularly honored at world-class concours d’elegance and museums. The Molsheim, France-based brand is so esteemed that a commemoration of its 100th anniversary was never in doubt. So when the occasion arrived in 2009, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance duly pronounced Bugatti’s centenary as one of the event’s guiding themes.

This opportunity was not lost on Bugatti Automobiles SaS, the modern successor to Ettore Bugatti’s original Alsatian concern. The company’s signature product, the 1,001-horsepower Veyron 16.4, had spent years in careful development by the VW Group’s specialized engineers, and was received with justifiable acclaim by journalists and enthusiasts alike upon its 2005 introduction, redefining the benchmark for the modern hypercar in the process.

The Veyron was capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.46 seconds, en route to a top speed just over 408 km/h (nearly 254 mph). Built around a magnificent mid-mounted, quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16 engine with four valves per cylinder and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, it astonished the world with its surefootedness even at the most extreme speeds, enabled by a full-time Haldex all-wheel-drive system. The stopping power was stunning, as the Veyron was anchored by massive carbon-ceramic disc brakes with 15.7-inch discs and eight-piston, four-pad calipers up front, while 15-inch discs with six-piston, two-pad calipers were mounted at the rear. The alloy wheels, respectively 20 and 21 inches at the front and rear, were shod with special Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 PAX run-flat tires engineered specifically for the Veyron.

Three different drive modes governed the dizzying array of technology: a Normal mode, at which the ride height was 4.9 inches; a Handling mode that deployed the rear spoiler and lowered ride height to 3.15 inches; and a special, key-activated High-Speed mode that dropped ride height to 2.56 inches in front and 2.75 at the rear, while changing the spoiler position. Even the car’s ancillary systems, including no fewer than 10 radiators, were marvels of automotive engineering conceived to perform under the most demanding circumstances.

All of this was encased within an intricately hand-crafted structure, actually shorter in overall length than a modern Porsche 911, though riding on a longer 106.7-inch wheelbase, while being noticeably lower and wider than the benchmark German sports car of the day. It was instantly and definitively recognizable as the pinnacle product that it aspired to be—the modern Bugatti, a sporting speed machine that looked and performed like absolutely nothing else on the road.

The cathedral of San Nicolo represents the most important place of worship in the city of Noto, dedicated to S. Nicolo de Mira, it was the seat of the parish until 1844, the year of creation of the Diocese of Noto, and then became the seat of the bishopric of the dicese of the same name in Sicily.

The construction of the religious building began in 1693, but following the numerous earthquakes which followed one another over the centuries, it suffered damage and successive restorations. The current structure is the fruit of the latest work, only completed in the 19th century on the plans of the Architect Bernardo Labisi.

In 1848 the dome collapsed, which was rebuilt on the plans of the arch. Cassone. Construction was completed in 1862, and internal church improvement work was completed in 1959.

During the "earthquake in the Santa Lucia earthquake" of December 13, 1990, the pillars supporting the church dome were damaged. On March 13, 1996 the umpteenth collapse brought the total collapse of the dome, the central nave and that of the east. The reconstruction and restoration of the church led to the reopening of worship on June 18, 2007.

On January 21, 2012 Pope Benedict XVI raised the cathedral to the rank of Minor Basilica.

The cathedral stands at the top of a large, monumental staircase on the north side of Piazza Municipio.

The facade flanked by slender side towers represents an example of the late Baroque architecture of Val di Noto, where there is no shortage of eclectic elements and a notable neoclassical inspiration. The interior of the church, with a Latin cross with three naves, was in the past embellished with frescoes by the painters Bandinelli and Arduino, lost during the 1996 collapse; to date, it presents itself with large and voluminous white spaces, simple and baroque decorations.

- The four leaf clover is the most well known lucky symbol around the world and across many very different cultures, with its origin ages old.

- According to legend, Eve carried a four leaf clover from the Garden of Eden.

- Druids held the 4 leaf clover in high esteem and considered them a sign of luck.

- If consumed, a genie appears. This genie grants you three wishes. These three wishes must be used in one year.

- In addition, each leaf is believed to represent something: the first is for faith, the second is for hope, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.

- Marsilea quadrifolia, Four Leaf Clover or European Water Clover has its natural habitat in Europe and Southern Asia. It is found growing both submersed and emersed along marshlands, riverbanks (such as the Loire, Po and parts of the Danube) and streams. Considered an invasive exotic in North America.

This aquatic fern bears a 4 parted leaf resembling '4-leaf clover' (Trifolium). Leaves floating in deep water or erect in shallow water or on land.

Sculpture (limestone) by Barbara Hepworth, 1948, seen in St. Albans Museum and Gallery. I find it remarkable that Hepworth used the visual language of the Madonna and Child to represent the "new morning" in the biological history of our planet. The Eocene covers roughly the first thirty million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs - and the rise of new plant life, of the mammals and, ultimately, us. The image may tell us that this process has a sacred dimension or, at least, that religious language is a way to visually describe it. Edited in Fuji's raw converter and refined in Luminar.
