24th September 2009: The Child reporters at the Government school of Dongarampur village in Raichur district of Karnataka proudly display their handwritten newspaper 'Chinnara Mansa', that brings to focus the issues concerning them and their village. These children have been mentored and trained by UNICEF to exercise their 'right to participation' as per the UN Child rights Convention. Assistant District Attorney David Deakin speaks to reporters after the trial of a man who kidnapped his daughter during a post-divorce custody visit. The trial was covered by local, national, and international media. In the hours between closing arguments and verdict, Suffolk DA Dan Conley (left) told me that he would address the media in the event of an acquittal and that Dave would speak in the event of a conviction -- a class act. Mario Barrette and I visted my Aunt and Uncle (Harry and Joyce Reed) in Charleston, S.C. We were on travelling back to Toronto where we were teaching tennis for the summer.
On Apr. 22, WFAA reporter, Cynthia Izaguirre, visited with the students of Perry Middle School. She explained how she was inspired as a middle school student to become a TV reporter and that her efforts began in middle school to reach for that goal. She encouraged students to study and stick to their dreams.
