Callie is an X-treme Reporter, as seen by this shot, where she is maybe only three feet from the edge of the top of the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The raspberry nail polish is maybe not so extreme. Hey, it takes dealing with 21 flights of stairs to get in and out of that place! Lee Giles would say that's extreme!

O filme, baseado em fatos reais, se passa entre 1990 e 1994, em Joanesburgo, na África do Sul, durante a transição do sistema apartheid para a primeira eleição de Nelson Mandela. Nessas condições de guerra, sangue e miséria, somos convidados a acompanhar a vida de quatro fotojornalistas, que estão dispostos a correr qualquer risco em busca do ângulo perfeito (o longa é inspirado no livro escrito por dois deles). A história, no entanto, não é “pesada”, não faz a gente agonizar, nem sofrer com aquela realidade tão triste. Apesar de muitas cenas fortes e que mostravam a degradação humana, o enredo se concentra mesmo na imprensa, na insegurança de um fotojornalista freelancer e recém-chegado que, minutos mais tardes, se transformaria em um jovem vencedor de um Pulitzer.
Uma produção que não queria causar estrondos – nem literalmente -, sem muitas figurações ou atores em cena; uma produção quase despretensiosa, tamanha a simplicidade e falta de detalhes físicos, efeitos especiais. Mas é justamente essa maneira sem aprofundamento de contar a história que faz com que a gente consiga se colocar no lugar dos quatro fotógrafos, sentir medo por eles e, inconscientemente, nos questionarmos se faríamos o mesmo. O filme economiza visualmente para nos pressionar emocionalmente, como num livro mesmo, em que tudo fica por conta da nossa própria imaginação. Experiência deliciosa!
