‘The Political Reporter’ is a new media installation by Boone, NC-based artist Mark Nystrom that generates random, but intriguing statements with words found on political websites and in the media. Sources include the Obama and Romney presidential campaigns, the Democratic and Republican parties, bloggers and the news media.

‘The Political Reporter’ animates a cloud of letters and periodically makes statements. These images are screen grabs taken while ‘The Political Reporter’ was running on Election Day and the day after.

Letters from words gathered from conservative sources are colored red and ones from liberal sources are blue. ‘The Political Reporter’s’ vocabulary includes over 70,000 words, but only 300 appear on the screen at any given time. As words are used to make statements, they are replaced by randomly chosen new ones from the list of 70,000.

The Town of Bedlam: Scene 19

[Amanda] Hey sis, do you know anything about a prison breakout?

[Sarah] This is the first that I'm hearing about it. What did you hear?

[Amanda] I came across two police officers just a minute ago and they told me that there are a bunch of dangerous escaped criminals on the run. One of the officers was carrying a rocket launcher. Something really big must be going down. I immediately thought of you.

[Sarah] Thanks for the tip sis, you're the best! Consider me on it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

[Sarah] Thanks for meeting me on such short notice.

[Barry] Don't think anything of it. That's the life of a cameraman. We're ready to go live whenever you are.

[Sarah] Okay, on me in 3..2..1.. This is Sarah Adams reporting live with breaking news. I received a tip from an anonymous source that earlier today there was a breakout behind me at Solitude Island Prison. As of right now there are an unknown number of escaped inmates on the loose. I tried calling the prison several times for confirmation but each time they hung up on me. That's all I have to go on for right now since this story is literally just breaking. Let's get a sidewalk reaction. Excuse me sir. Have you seen any prisoners running around or anyone that looks suspicious?

[Donnie] Hi mom! Hi dad! Hey uncle Terry! I always told you I'd be on TV someday!

[Sarah] Ahem

[Donnie] Aren't we already living in a prison lady? Damn, all I see are prisoners everywhere. Whoa.. would you look at that. Another chemtrail! The government is always spraying toxic chemicals into the atmosphere. It'll eventually work it's way down to us. It's making people sick and it poisons our crops! The elites are the only ones who have access to the vaccines.

[Sarah] I see. Thank you for your wisdom and your time.

[Donnie] I almost forgot.. if anyone wants to join our flat earthers group we always meet every Friday at 7pm at Jimbo's bar on 3rd Avenue. Once you go flat, you can't go back!
