Metrolink replacement to Ashton today saw an opportunity for some photos.

A quite empty Tyrers LX11CWM is seen in Droylsden leading a Stagecoach on the 216 which would have a healthy load. Well what would you expect, the 216 almost mirrors the Metrolink for most of the route into Ashton, the advantage of easier access on Metrolink for the wheel/Push chair has gone and you can pay by card or cash if you are so inclined.

The replacement bus pulls up quite some way from the Metrolink stop, can I pay by cash, no you need a Metrolink ticket from the station over there, will you wait while I get a ticket, no bye.

Finally, after ten years, we have the Gallardo's replacement. And it's about time, Lamborghini seemed to be out of ideas, considering their shitty Gallardo mk3.

Anyway, I think the Huracan looks great, and having seen it up close, I wonder how could people see it as a reduced Aventador, the two of them look quite different !

Trying to find a replacement for my long straight style. This os a good one I think. Neither of these are cheap though 😢

The Bank Holidays over Christmas 2021 saw a large rail replacement bus operation covering services between Farnborough, Woking, Weybridge, Aldershot, Guildford and Basingstoke. As a result, a large number of vehicles were out and about and I snapped a few in Farnborough, Guildford and Woking.

Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!

Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. The one sunny spot we found came with a time limit as a ruddy great big lamppost shadow edged its way into shot therefore limiting use of that corner. All in all though, it proved to be a belter!! Maybe have it in the Spring next time please Network Rail?

A surprise vehicle on rail replacement between Epsom and Clapham Junction today, 2nd February, 2020. Volvo B10M-62 Van Hool Alizee N175 LHU was new to Tappins and was running in Norfolk for Jonathan Joplin until just two weeks ago. It is now operating for Candy Coaches.

It's like a miracle! Truly truly!!!

In October 2013, Go North East consulted with passengers on

proposals to change some services in Sunderland

North and The Boldons, for revisions to come into effect from January 2014.

As part of these service changes, services 36 and 36A were withdrawn. A new service, numbered 29, was introduced as a replacement for the 36 service in Town End Farm and Castletown, in addition to an improved X36 service through Downhill, Witherwack and Carley Hill.

Early morning connections were maintained by the introduction of service 99A, which runs twice a day on weekdays (04:55 and 05:55am) from Sunderland to Witherwack, and four times a day on Saturdays (05:10, 06:10, 07:05 and 07:35am).

Two years on, and by and large, the 99A service remains untouched, despite passenger numbers leaving a lot to be desired!

Daylight savings is in full swing as the 17:11 service from Southern Cross approaches Kilmore East as 8327.

This service is scheduled to be loco hauled, although a late service change prompted a four car sprinter set, with 7003 leading.

Thomas of Rhondda has been a significant contributor to the major Rail Replacement work on the Pontypridd to Treherbert line to enable Transport for Wales to deliver the Metro project.

However, pre-dating the vehicles that have been sourced specifically for the additional work is this Wright Eclipse Gemini-bodied Volvo B7TL, which was acquired from First West of England in March 2022 and was initially used in First's Olympia livery. Her capacity also makes her ideal for school contract work.

She appeared to be engaged on the latter when I captured her by chance on Pontypridd Road, Porth - her new home town - in February 2024.

Instead of a class 91, 90039 was used on 1B86 from London Kings Cross to Newark Northgate, which was a nice surprise.

Kicking off 2026 was a trip to Basingstoke on Sunday 4th January to witness the rail replacement buses running to Andover, Farnborough, Reading, Winchester and Woking. With 11 departures every hour, something interesting was bound to turn up sooner or later. Being sufficiently west of London, Basingstoke is predominantly 'coach country' rather than say, east of Woking where it's almost all buses running the rail replacement services.

Today's delights were a pair VDL Futuras from Star Tours of Wembley, a JKT International Irizar, a pair of former Excelsior Plaxton Elites now sporting Damory branding, the Barnes '100 Years' coach which has now been repainted into full fleet livery, and a pair of Mayflower Scania deckers. It was good to see the Mayflower pair back on the road again after the devastating vandal attack that crippled the fleet back in November 2025.

In total, 36 buses and coaches from 20 different operators passed our cameras in our 3 hour visit with Aldermaston Coach Lines and Barnes providing 5 each.

The first job for Omega Buses is a Metro Replacement run. There have been delays in the firms' birth, and Omega are still operating in Smith's yard, and do not have any services yet. High winds have caused problems on the metro and local firms are covering.

Omega are hoping to have their full fleet of 10 vehicles painted and acquire services by the end of January/start of February. At this moment in time, neither Smith's nor Omega are buying new vehicles, but the plan is to keep Omega as a smaller, family run type firm, with a maximum of 10 buses in the fleet, and any further expansion will occur in the Smith's side of the fleet.

TAXI TO MAINSTORE

Tying down where my first nightjar would drop her replacement clutch proved far from easy. In fact, I really struggled. It was only a bit of inspired thinking that lead me to her. I realised an area that I hadn't given my full focus had been next to a heavily walked path. Subconsciously, it's because in the back of your mind, it's the last place you want the bird to utilise. And so it proved to be that she was just thirty yards off the path. Two clear side on views were available and over the next ten days, bless her, she never moved an inch. Every day was the same shot. It was all academic as I knew it was going to end badly yet again for this bird. Every day two separate dog walkers, each with four springers would walk the path at different times of day and the dogs would go off piste. I saw her on two occasions flushed by a rampaging dog. No springer on flushing a bird in the same area twice would not after that point deliberately not go looking for it. It may have been the work of one individual but there is every chance that all of the dogs contributed in some way. She endured two days of relentless rain as later photos will show but with less than four days to hatching I found the eggs intact but scattered over the area. In some part, better that I witnessed that, rather than chicks. Very sad but I knew it was always going to happen.

My rewards this year photographically and video wise with the jars have fallen hopelessly short in terms of the time and effort that I've put in. I'm in no doubt about that. But to have seven weeks spent in the company of such amazing birds has been reward itself.

The kids went out and found this. Given the 8 days of over 90 temps I’m amazed that there were any available but the big box stores are getting ready for our tax free weekend in MA, so it was propitious. This is not the make and model they’d gone out in search of but it it’s gotta be better than Mr Leaky.
