This was one of those will it, wont it sunsets. There was a bank of cloud that wasn't supposed to be there according to the apps, but it cleared just in time for sunset thankfully.
Great to be out with my good friend Oli and met up with another local tog who was out for the first time after 6 weeks recovering from a hip replacement operation. It was safe to say that at 78 yrs old with a new hip he went nowhere near the slippy rocks but still got some great shots from angles I've never seen before.
Great Horned Owl stretches its wing and leg. Sky Replacement added to get rid of a mostly white background.
Not real. Luminar Sky replacement test. Photo actually taken during day. You can make out the distant mountains aren’t masking the sky very well, but overall the Auto Sky replacement works pretty good for one click. The waves would also look very different under a long exposure.
Last sun light in the year 2017 hitting this mountain top, and the almost full moon rising behind it.

Happy Caturday!! Viking Iceland cruise excursion from Reykjavik
Garðskagaviti can be found on the topmost point of the Reykjanes Peninsula, directly above Keflavík International Airport (KEF). Originally, a lighthouse at the site was constructed with timber in 1897 by the Danish Lighthouse Commission. In 1933, the lighthouse was renovated, reinforced with concrete, before being decommissioned in 1944 due to fear of landslides.
Garðskagaviti, standing at 26 metres high, was built as a replacement. It is today considered one of Iceland’s most picturesque lighthouses with its vibrant red and white paint job and gorgeous surrounding scenery.
The lighthouse keeper kept a permanent residence here until 1979.
When I was in San Miguel a few years back, this otherwise charming alley was defaced with ugly graffiti. I was happy to find that, now, there are a number of artistic/more pleasant renderings and murals along the way.

This is Nantygwyllt Church, built beside one of the Elan Valley reservoirs as a replacement for a church which was drowned by the water. Fascinating display of photos inside from the time when the reservoirs were built in the early 20th century.

Here is a photo from the archives that I may have never of posted if not for the new Photoshop "sky replacement" tool. The sky in this plane photo before the sky replacement was a very boring light blue sky. My kids got me a years subscription to the online photoshop and just getting around to see what it has to offer. This is my first attempt and there are some adjustments that I still have to learn.
I feel a little "dirty" replacing a sky in one of my photos, never really done that before. In doing this it brings a lot of questions to my photo and photography in general.
Should replacing a sky even be allowed and still call it a photo or is it now more a piece if art?
In the future do I need to acknowledge that the sky was replaced in a photo or say nothing? If I take and post a photo that has an amazing sky do I need now to say that the sky was not replaced?
Is it OK to use someone else skies in your photo or just use one that you created? This is my own sky shot in this photo.
Please give me you opinion in the comments below.
Thanks and have a great Sunday!!
As the sun sets, it is replaced with rain clouds. They both descend at the same time delivering an eerie and moody scene. The tides too are moving in covering the last bit of land with incoming water.
In all, the scene is changing from one appearance to another. It is now a time of transition with clouds moving in, colors fading, and land replaced with water. It is enjoyable to watch as nature goes through its changes.
Reportedly one of the first installations of CTC in this country was a 20-mile stretch of Pere Marquette Railway main line between Flint and Saginaw. Completed in 1928, PM chose to put in the CTC signaling on the single-track route instead of double tracking the line. Here southbound train Y119 out of Saginaw is mid-way through their run to Flint and passing a unique signal of which the top head looks like a replacement and the bottom looks original. Numerous new Safetran-type intermediate signals have been installed on the northern one-third of the line.
I was very excited today to try the new sky replacement tool in Photoshop. This is an image I took in Iceland which had a very dull gray sky. With very little effort, I was able to replace the sky with a more interesting one.
The new tool is very powerful and has features I have yet to learn for minimizing halo's at the horizon.
PTC cutover is looming on the Pittsburgh Line, spelling the doom for the Pennsylvania Railroad's position light signals guarding the line. Every interlocking east of Altoona has a set of replacement "vader" signals next to the position lights. Intermediate signals do not - once PTC comes in, they'll disappear without a replacement. However, this allows for some unobstructed views of these old signals before they fall. Here at milepost 146, NS Y90 ducks under one of the few remaining signal bridges east of Altoona on the old Middle Division, located just west of Thompsontown.
For a bit of fun, the same photo as the previous one but with Luminar 4 sky replacement. I prefer to keep my skies original, but thought this a good one to experiment with.
After our Dolomites hike last September, we spent four nights in Venice, staying in the Cannaregio area. On our first night not far from where we were staying.
I process my photos with Lightroom as well as Skylum's Luminar and find it easy to use with great results. Here is a link if anyone is interested in trying it out and with a $US10 discount: skylum.grsm.io/janetteasche8660
On1 Photo Raw 2022 has a new sky replacement tool. It just came out today. I got to play with the program in advance and it was a lot of fun. Their new denoise plugin is no joke.
Following the old IC branch west of Rantoul, IL, my friends and I were hoping to find the rare GP28 owned by the elevator here in Dewey. We were a bit surprised to see this ex CNW GP50 instead. The Co-Op still owns the GP28, which is parked in the barn with mechanical issues and from what we understand, is for sale.

Should probably be the replacement for the lack of snow.

A newly installed wooden plank on a bridge at the Adelaide Botanic Garden. The bridge was new to me but had obviously been around long enough to warrant replacement parts.
R2-D2 the replacement the gentleman in charge told me to the lighthouse where we could climb and view the scene. This doesn't have the same power as the original lighthouse, however, the latest GPS helps larger ships to navigate through the narrow passage.

Pictured are VW1275, VW1271 (hidden behind) and VW1293. The official Meal Relief bus will be DES799 but it's current location is unknown!
These two are pretty good. Don't eat or need heat, shots, licenses, tags and don't use litter. Don't claw furniture. They don't play either. But they fill a void for now.
The little calico came from a lady named Jane Boyle from Princeton Telecommunications in NJ and neither of us remembers where the orange ceramic tabby came from but he has piercing green eyes.

Sniff ...
The shelter Voisthalerhütte in the high valley Dullwitz in the Hochschwab mountain group was once my base for climbing tours in the Hochschwab walls. I associate the hut with beautiful moments and memories of friendships. Now the beautiful old hut has been replaced by a new building. The old hut still stands next to it, but demolition work has already begun. High time to visit it one last time.Sniff ...
The first power from the start up that WC tried to replace was the 17 ex Soo GP30's. The 1948 Alco FA trucks they rode on were a pain and the group had never been rebuilt and there was some concern about "crispy" wiring in the electrical cabinets. Only three of the group received the full WC paint scheme which was a shame because they looked damn good in it. 713 leads one of its would be replacements on an X35 at Gould City. Most of these units were retired as the GP40's came on board but due to a nearly chronic power shortage a number of them were soon back in service. Five of them managed to stay in service until 2000 and IIRC three actually operated for a few weeks after the CN take over. 713 was one of the last to go. This was shot in December 1990 and at the time I'd already made peace with the fact I wasn't going to have many more GP30 opportunities...wrong again😊. It is Thirty Thursday, a rescan.
