The Champa ruins at the remote rural site of My Son (also known as the 'Cham Towers') comprises several groups of ruined temple buildings from the Hindu Cham culture that flourished in central Vietnam from the 5th to the 15th centuries. The surviving ruins are mainly built of brick with many of the ornamental details carved into the brickwork.
The site was abandoned for several centuries after the decline of the Champa kingdom and the temples fell into ruin and were partially reclaimed by the jungle. There have been several restorations and excavations of the site in the 20th century, but sadly much damage was done here in the 1960s when it was bombed during the Vietnam War (some of the surviving structures were wrecked and several bomb craters can still be seen).
Today the site can be explored again, a fascinating and evocative glimpse of Vietnam's lost Hindu kingdom through these towering architectural relics.

I finally got a remote release for my D300 so I challenged myself to take a self-portrait this week. I also decided that instead of talking about the kids in my P52 weekly blog post, I'd talk about myself. ;)
So for this photo, I put my camera on the tripod, changed my focus area from single point to AF-C and got all of my settings just right, then started snapping away with the remote. It was kinda fun! Anna came outside and was laughing with me, so that made it a bit easier not to feel so awkward.
I haven't found a caregiver yet for Anna so I'm pretty much exhausted. I have one more woman to interview… hopefully she will work out well. I also had some blood work done that my pain management doctor ordered (she follows me for my fibromyalgia). She wanted to check some auto-immune factors while I was in the midst of a flare which happened to fall on Tuesday this week. I saw her yesterday and didn't expect the results yet but they were in. Guess what? You will not believe this! Two of the three auto-immune factors were normal (the SED rate and rheumatoid factor) and the ANA was borderline. BUT my TSH was high and my vitamin D was low… just like Anna! So I will need to start on thyroid medication and vitamin D just like her. Wow. My white blood cell count was also elevated but my orthopedic surgeon just had me finish up a round of steroids and he thinks it's due to the steroids. I saw him today. My knee keeps swelling. Every 3-4 weeks, he pulls off about 50cc of fluid. He says that I'm a head-scratcher and that I'm interesting. He likes that. :) I see my GP on Monday and we'll get a treatment plan in place. I'm definitely thinking that Anna and I have the same genetic code in a lot of areas.
So onto some good news… are you ready for a BIG announcement???
I'm on the cusp of a huge milestone and I'm so so so excited!!! (And nervous too!). On Monday, I will be officially launching Holly Anissa Photography as a legal, insured business ready to book clients. Woot! I still have quite a bit to do this weekend and probably won't get every single detail complete before Monday but I'm ready. So look for some big changes to the blog very soon.
That's all for now! Man, I sure do talk a lot, don't I? :) <3
The CD-i also had a normal remote control for doing things like playing CDs or Video CDs. This controller was also good for games like The 7th Guest, which have a slower pace and were meant to be played with a mouse. If you tried using this for action games, you would fail horribly. If you notice, around the stick there are four action buttons. This does not mean that the remote gives you more buttons than the gamepad. Instead, those buttons are simply two copies of button 1 and button 2. And unlike the gamepad, there is no “Button 1+2″, so good luck with that if you ever find a game that uses that feature.
I don’t understand why it seems as though the designers of the controllers for the CD-i never talked to the designers of the system, and why neither group had ever talked to ANYONE who ever played a video game. I mean, wasn’t Nintendo involved in the creation of this system, at least on some level? Couldn’t someone there talk some sense into them? “Oh, you’re making a Zelda game? You need more than two buttons for that.”

I spent a night with my friend Sparky who invited me to attend his visit to a local hobby club. It was a fun couple of hours of photo enjoyment for me.
It amuses me to see these signs for adult stores along the highway, often in the middle of nowhere (or so it seems). With the internet, it seems that such places would be a losing proposition. I can't imagine working there would be a joy, either. But, they must get enough business to stay in operation.
I got a remote control for my Nikon D40 for my birthday (which isn't until the 26th, but the package from my parents got here quickly). Here's my first shot using it, of me looking like crap. At least my apartment is suitably clean.

Long time, no post.
I haven't really been taking anything lately,
but considering what I got for Christmas, I think I'll be fine now.
:D
I finally got a remote & tripod
and I looooove them both.
It makes photographing myself and others SO much easier.
PS:
I want a ferret...
badly.
