This picture reminded me that once everything we are going through now, that is is always the darkest before the dawn. And it is going to get a lot worse, so pray, send positive thoughts to everyone you know..........FROM a distance I will add. Love today as you never know what tomorrow holds.
I'm a frontline worker, so please shout out to those front line workers saving your loved ones and friends. xo
🎼: Shake it Out~ Florence and the Machine~
✈️ : The Getaway
Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play
And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues strong
It's always darkest before the dawn
And I've been a fool and I've been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I'm always dragging that horse around
Our love is pastured such a mournful sound
Tonight I'm gonna bury that horse in the ground
So I like to keep my issues strong
But it's always darkest before the dawn
Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil…
A child plays on the small terrace of a humble blue-and-white house, with the "coat of arms" on the lintel reminding him of his proud origins. Olympos, Karpathos island, Greece.
…Remind yourself you did the best you could.
One from an evening at Laguna Beach, California - 2022.

I know it's not a real word - I made it up :) It was a bit chilly and drizzly out on Thursday. It had been raining much harder and my coat was soaked, but I wanted to go to the beach. The woman in the photo had stopped to talk to me, and I waited until she was at the end of the pier to shoot this.
Zoom in and take a look around. Portrait mode in Flickr doesn't work that well, unless you can get closer.

The Inukshuk is a stone human likeness that is used in the Arctic to indicate direction. It's interesting to me that I came across this one, because it was pointing in the direction of Edmonton.
This was taken at Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park. This by far is my favorite place in the entire park. The sound of the falls soothes me but here; where the raging falls meets the Athabasca River is my favorite place. It reminds me how no matter how much my wold or the world around me is raging, there will always be a calm place for me.
I was just reminded of our visit to the fabulous Azores islands which I can't believe has been four years ago. We spent our Birthday there in December 2012 and discovered an amazing story of volcanic activity, craters and calderas and a mighty eruption that took place between 1957 and 1958 at this spot: Capelo, where the Capelinhos volcano erupted during a considerable time. To see what's left of it is quite impressive.
From Wikipedia: "A volcanic eruption lasted for 13 months, from September 27, 1957 until October 24, 1958, which may have been two overlapping volcanic eruptions. While enlarging the land by 2.4 km², it spawned 300 seismic events, hurled ash 1 km, destroyed 300 houses in the parishes of Capelo and Praia do Norte and caused the evacuation of 2,000 people (emigration to the US and Canada). On October 25, the volcano entered a period of dormancy. It is a part of an active fissural volcanic complex which creates multiple seismic and volcanic events."
Happy Textural Tuesday!
reminds me of our rhino hunt with the camera in Namibia... far away in time and area
FAR AWAY PLACES is the topic for Saturday, July 15, 2023 Group Our Daily Challenge.
... a Japanese wallpaper I seen in a gorgeous restaurant. The photo itself is not great by any means but I saved it because of a rare bird I rarely see Eastern Phobee and to me it is so very pretty sitting on blossom tree. Happy Day to all and enjoy always.
(These are fast and it was hopping all over the place. Had old bad lens and was hard to capture it. I know excuses ....)
This waterdrop reminds me of the impact some has upon me
Both as persons and the words they use
Sometimes I can feel that all my foundation, the whole ground I am walking upon, is shaking
It's like a tsunami of feelings
Waving their way through my body and mind
I feel like bursting
Letting it all out isn't always an option
Explosions often becomes implosions
Good feelings or bad feelings
They can be like needles inside
It can be too much
Luckily for me the good feelings are the foundation of my life now, but they can hurt too
How weird even that sounds like
Having love in your life gives you worries too
You keep your feelings all locked in, until the release can happen
Letting the waves go out, letting the tsunami calms
Yes, thank you - everything is OK
We discover how vulnerable we are when all these feelings come flooding, I guess I'm not in balance yet.
The immense feeling of love I will never take for granted 🙏
We are a bunch of walking bundle of feelings, that's for sure
We all have these people surrounding us
Making life difficult for us
Making life wonderful for us
It's a mix
It is always a balance to find in it all, it takes time to land, how to cope with it all
It is for each and one of us to deal with of course
But a comforting word from a loved ones always helps

A long exposure shot taken at the Belem tower in Lisbon as the sun rose, and before the tourists arrived. It reminds me what a wonderful spot Lisbon is. Must get back there pronto.

There are people who live alone
like the forgotten twig of wheat
the world around is an empty plain
and they, alone in the darkness
like the forgotten twig of wheat
lonely people
There are people who live alone
like the rocks of the sea
the world is an endless ocean
and they, mute, stooped and alone
windswept rocks
lonely people

He reminds me of a tiny cartoon character...
ID? I don't think he's a skipper but I'm not sure.
Update: Thank you for your ID help... he seems to be either a Fiery Skipper (Hylephila phyleus), or a Taxiles Skipper Butterfly. I'll be sure to ask him next time he visits.
The long exposure reminded me of an ermine stole around the Crown Mine Buildings at Botallack, hence the cryptic title.
You have to try and contemplate what life was like for those hardy Cornish Miners who braved the conditions here on the rugged Atlantic Coast. Life was tough as they tunnelled away underneath the seabed to extract the rock some 400 metres below the seabed!
As you can see the conditions were quite conducive to an LE, once I found a place where I could shelter from the gusty winds. It was unusual that the wind was actually blowing out to sea, which made the cliff edge and the narrow traverse out to this spot quite precarious. I had visions of the tripod and camera disappearing over the edge.
Amsterdam Light Festival - Colourful, flickering and illuminated Korean signs compete for your attention on the Schippersgracht in Amsterdam. EON SLD’s installation contains about 40 replicas of traditional signs, neon signs and lightboxes that represent the 1950s to the present, as well as several newly designed signs. The jumble in which these signs have been presented on the quay are typical of a Korean shopping street.
A tree reminds us that to grow up,
towards the spiritual, the abstract,
it is necessary to be well rooted in the earth,
in the concrete, in the matter.
It is like the human being, a being that unites heaven and earth.
He is the bearer of the finished fruit, and at the same time,
it is in the process of development.
We, as human beings,
we are the maximum expression of creation and at the same time
we are still in the process of growth.

Reminds me of 1930s movies. I keep expecting Sam Spade to come walking out of that office at the end of the hall, a scowl on his face. San Francisco city hall.

this reminds me of a ray bradbury short story about a renowned character actor who so immersed himself in his roles that he eventually lost himself forever. no soul, no face.
i think there are a lot of women out there, men too, who wear so many hats, they get lost in the shuffle. if you are working, you only have so much time....so STOP apologizing for not commenting when your house is filling with water and the electrics are down!
i am not working right now, which is why i have time to comment and visit so many. and i run out of time every day! not to mention the chaos of my glass piling up!
Reminds me of Oogie Boogie from A Nightmare Before Christmas.
