Many of these paintings and drawings of flowers that Mondrian made in 1908–9 are full of symbolism, mainly relating to Theosophy. Shortly afterwards, he moved away from symbolist representations, but continued to portray flowers until his death, selling them for income at times of financial difficulty. He repeatedly returned to the same varieties, such as chrysanthemums and arum lilies. Mondrian was known to trace some of his drawings of flowers, using carbon paper, to create multiple versions. The same elements are repeated in endless variations – also a distinctive feature of Mondrian’s neo-plasticism.
Mondrian’s paintings of dying sunflowers and chrysanthemums draw on Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings of wilting sunflowers. Metamorphosis is one of several based on the observation of a chrysanthemum over a period of days. A ghostly essence seems to seep away from the withered flower head. Theosophy was based on the idea of higher planes of existence, beyond the physical world and scholars have suggested that the white-yellow halo can be interpreted as an artistic re-creation of the flower’s etheric shell, or aura. Such ideas that were promoted by figures like Rudolf Steiner – a prominent Theosophist and founder of Anthroposophy – who emphasised that plants share the same spirit as humans.*

Hilma af Klint & Piet Mondrian: Forms of Life
(April – September 2023)
This is a unique chance to discover the visionary work of Swedish painter Hilma af Klint and experience Dutch painter Piet Mondrian’s influential art in a new light.
Although they never met, af Klint and Mondrian both invented their own languages of abstract art rooted in nature. At the heart of both of their artistic journeys was a shared desire to understand the forces behind life on earth.
Best known for his abstract work, Mondrian in fact began his career – like af Klint – as a landscape painter. Alongside Mondrian’s abstract compositions, you will see the rarely exhibited paintings of flowers he continued to create throughout his life. Also on display will be enigmatic works by af Klint in which natural forms become a pathway to abstraction.
Both artists shared an interest in new ideas of scientific discovery, spirituality and philosophy. Af Klint was also a medium, and this exhibition showcases the large-scale, otherworldly paintings she believed were commissioned by higher powers.

Relating to idea's of philosopher Heidegger ("every action we take is based around actions we take in the future") and Hitchcock ("there is no terror in the bang only the anticipation of it.") as well as researching into the activity of the amygadala during suspense. (the part of the brain that processes suspense). As well as looking at the fight or flight response and how suspense is interlinked with survival. This research resulting in an equation consisting of three variables; "hope+unknown+fear= suspense.". Development of creating a 3D diagram for this equation that explains the concept conceptually as well as kinetically e.g fear+unknown-hope= dispear. (visually; all variables balancing person in suspense; physically increasing force of hope on balanced person, fear is lost. person is no longer balanced in position of suspense because equation itself is unbalanced.)

A few more furnitures and accessory for my Rolleiflex 3.5F (see below for details relate d to the camera) with a couple of old-fashioned carbon-zinc 22.5V batteries from China to test the Rolleiflash and a close-up accessory Rolleinar 1 (1 diopter) in the correct bayonet dimension (RII) suitable for the Rolleiflex 3.5F with Zeiss Planar lens or Schneider-Kreuznach Xenotar 1:3.5 f=75mm.
There are 3 different filter bayonet sizes on the Rolleiflex (RI, RII, and RIII) and one should check that both optical pieces are of the correct same dimension before buying. The Rolleinar 1 permit the focusing of the Rolleiflex between 1m and 0.47m instead of the normal minimum focusing distance of 0.9m. The parallax for Heidosmat viewing lens is corrected with an integrated prism that should correctly positioned with a red dot directed up. The Rolleinar came with its original Rollei Francke & Heidecke branded leather case.
The Rolleiflash type-2 is the original one that came with the camera. It mounts to the viewing lens bayonet and is also of the correct type RII. Rolleiflashes exist also in other bayonet dimension. At now, I just tested the circuity continuation with the battery in place and also with a flash bulb mounted. When pressing the test button a small light flashes on the control window. Next step will to fire a bulb...

About the camera :
I got this stunning Rolleiflex 3.5F from a French artist near Paris, France. The camera came in it original box and leather bag with accessories and a reference book year 1955. The whole kit is in an exceptional state of conservation.
The Rolleiflex 3.5F is the model-3, or "K4F",that Rollei-Werke Franke & Heidecke produced in 50.000 units in Germany from Nov.1960 to Dec. 1964. The Rolleiflex originates from 1928 for the very first model and was produced still in a limited number until the years 2000’s. The 3.5F model 3 was available etheir with a Schneider-Kreuznak Xenotar taking lens or the Call Zeiss Planar 1:3.5 f=75mm as this camera. The Rolleiflex, that was a quality reference for many professional photographers in the 50’s for the medium-format 6X6 camera’s. Many worked both with the Leica M3 (starting from 1954) as small-format 24x36mm camera and the Rolleiflex for other appliances. The Rolleiflex remained one of the most iconic and trusted camera of all the times.
This specific 3.5F is labelled on the right side with nice badge made of enameled brass « T » « Telos » that was the exclusive first French importer of Rollei to France until 1972.
The Rolleiflex 3,5 F model 3 is equipped with the Synchro-Compur central shutter MXV CR00 with cone-wheel differential. The distance scale is only in meters here with automatic DOF indication.

I detailed the camera and accessories and studied carefully the user manual and the book to before familiar this beauty before waiting for a quiet moment to prepare for a test film. I will not trust the old leather original neck strap to carry this precious machine on the field to avoid the real risk to drop the camera. I ordered a new one from a manufacturer in China.

Day 163 of 365: "I Can Relate"
I saw Mom & Dad when I first got to the pond, but didn't spot the little one until they got into the water.
Having just dropped off my little one, I couldn't help but smile at the oddly familiar scene.
Now and Then, a true descriptive Short Essay Story, written by Faceless Voices, decribes the meaning of her experiences at the 1969 Wood Stock Festival , relating to Family Values.

TOTEM POLES
Carved totem poles of cedar are perhaps the best known works of art on the Northwest Coast. Existing in pre-contact times, they later flourished with the spread of metal blades and the new-found wealth brought about through trading.
By the 1860s, a veritable forest of carved poles characterized many northern villages. Three types of poles marked the clan history and lineage of wealthy persons or families.
The house pole stood in front of, or attached to, the plank house, sometimes with an entryway through its base. Crests of the extended family within were displayed with pride.
The mortuary pole held the remains of the deceased in a cavity at the top, covered with a carved board that was often symbolic of the mortuary box. The carved figures on the supporting pole related to the deceased's life and background.
The memorial pole, raised in memory of a great chief or other high-ranking person, depicted his crests, a major event in his life or some other narrative associated with his life. The meaning for many of the poles still in existence has been recorded, providing explanations of the sequence of carved figures.
Raising a pole demanded a potlatch with guests, feasting, dancing, lengthy speeches, a display of wealth, gift-giving and other events.
The forerunner of the totem pole was probably the carved house post which supported the roof beams inside the plank house.
TOTEM POLES: REGIONAL STYLES
Not being a crest-oriented society, the Salish people did not have totem poles. Nevertheless, their dance houses frequently had posts carved with land otters and other beings of supernatural significance. Oval faces with small eyes, thin mouths and crescent-shaped brows that met with the nose to form a "T" were common.
Poles of the Nootkan maintained and emphasized the roundness of the log; faces resembled dance masks and bore the characteristic curved eye on the same plane as the cheek.
Kwakiutl poles were dramatic and colorful. Often the pole had many figures decorated with painted designs in several colors, including white and green. Thunderbirds and eagles had outstretched wings and other appendages for added effect. Eye sockets were more squared than rounded.
The organization of Bella Coola poles was similar to that of Kwakiutl poles. Faces on the carved figures had characteristic hemispherical-shaped faces with deep eye sockets, truncated conical eyes and large thick lips.
Tsimshian poles often had independent figures, one above the other, separated by a frieze of three or four small human figures. Faces occupied one-third the height of the figure and were square-jawed with a short chin. Frogs were frequently represented.
Monumental poles of wide diameter-were made by the Haida. Carving was deep, but the cylindrical form of the log was maintained; beaks were often added. Figures were massive, the head occupied half of the total height and eye sockets were rounded. One figure often overlapped another, or small creatures intertwined with large. Red and black paint was used sparingly.
Tlingit poles consisted of figures placed one above the other with little overlapping. Birds had beaks attached and wings generally placed vertically rather than outstretched, as on Kwakiutl poles. Painting was decorative and liberal.

Moses Thomas (1825-1878) was a significant figure in the history of the area now known as the City of Whittlesea, Victoria, Australia. Moses and Ann and their family lived at "Mayfield", Mernda, near Whittlesea, Victoria.

This leaf relates to wildness because it is a part of nature. It defines "wildness" because it is so natural and beautiful. People engage in reciprocal relations with the leaves on trees, "giving as much as one takes and listening as much as one talks." Methods Used: I molded orange, red and yellow clay together, flattened it and cut it to form the shape of the leaves I found on the ground by my house. I placed it front and center and surrounded it with similar style leaves, pine cones and pine needles. I had my camera on Manual mode and I set it to ISO 800, no flash, Cloudy White Balance, and 1/1250 shutter speed. This model was 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches in dimensions.
