A living room, also known as sitting room, lounge room or lounge (in the United Kingdom and Australia), is a room for entertaining guests, reading, watching TV or other activities. The term front room can also be used to describe a living room, because in many homes the living room is at the very front.
In modern homes and apartments, the living room has replaced the old-fashioned front parlour.[1] In the 19th century, the front parlour was the room in the house used for formal social events, including where the recently deceased were laid out before their funeral. The term marks the twentieth-century effort of architects and builders to strip the parlour of its burial and mourning associations. This room was relabeled with the more affirmative term "living room" in the 20th century.
A typical Western living room will be furnished with a sofa, chairs, occasional tables, a television or stereo equipment, and bookshelves, lamps, rugs[2], as well as other pieces of furniture. Traditionally, a sitting room in the United Kingdom would have a fireplace. In Japan, people traditionally sat on tatami instead of chairs, but Western-style decor is also common to have in Japanese homes nowadays.
In the United States, sometimes the living room is reserved for more formal and quiet entertaining while a separate recreation room or family room is used for more casual activities and drinking. In recent years, the term "great room" has come to be used to denote the family room, especially if it is open to the kitchen, and may feature a vaulted ceiling.
So back in 2009, there was brief interlude in Power Rangers programming. Rather than bringing in a new series, Disney opted to broadcast a touched up version of the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.
There were of course toy releases from this line. The Megazord, relabeled the Dino Megazord, was released. The toy was of course not as complex as the original figure, but was being sold at MSRP that reflected this.
Somewhere in the middle of this season, Saban retook the license from Disney, and basically implemented the Legacy series, which took these redesigned toys and blinged them out with better, more screen accurate paint applications and die cast metal parts.
The Legacy Dragonzord, released in Summer of 2014, can combine with both the Legacy Megazord and the Dino Megazord (which makes sense, as they are the same toy). Generous paint applications all around, though kind of expected given the $80 price tag.
I do miss that chrome on the original toy, though.
Die cast content is limited to the feet of the toy.
Long story short, the figure no longer features the lights and sound of the original. However, it does improve upon the original by having greater articulation in the arms and legs, a longer and more articulated tail, and a sleeker overall look.
The Dragonzord combines with the Megazord in two ways - it takes over the arms and legs to form the Dragonzord Battle Mode, and combines with the entire Megazord to form the Mega Dragonzord.
Combining the toys is very similiar to back in the 90's, though combing the Mega Dragonzord is a bit more annoying, as you need to take off the Pterodactyl as well as lower the chest piece on the Tyranosaurus. Also, the shoulder clips aren't as easy to put on.
2022 Porsche 911 'Sally Special'
$3,600,000 USD | Sold
From Sotheby's:
In celebration of the 20-year anniversary of Sally Carrera, a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera, from Pixar’s celebrated Cars franchise, Porsche is proud to offer a unique, one-of-one, modern-day interpretation of the famed movie character based on a 2022 Porsche 911 coupe. The 911 Sally Special marks a unique collaboration between Pixar Animation Studios, Style Porsche in Weissach Porsche’s Sonderwunsch team in Zuffenhausen and Porsche Cars North America. The creative process to specify the car was structured in a Co-Creation process that Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur recently launched as the Sonderwunsch program.
The 911 Sally Special is based on the most powerful, engaging and exciting model of the 911 Carrera range, the 911 Carrera GTS – made for people who love to drive, just as Sally Carrera does. Developing 473 hp from a twin-turbo boxer engine which emits a melodious flat-six note through the standard Sport Exhaust System, the 911 Sally Special is ready to tackle the road. Fitting for an enthusiast-focused car, the engine is paired with a seven-speed manual transmission. Furthermore, the model is enhanced from the factory with several options that make driving even more practical and enjoyable. These include the Premium Package and a front axle lift system, which provides extended ground clearance to clear speed bumps and steep driveways and also features a GPS-based memory function to store frequently visited areas that require the lift to be used. Rear-axle steering further enhances the steering and handling agility of the 911 Sally Special, while the 23.7 gallon extended range fuel tank, BOSE Surround Sound System and 18-way adjustable Sport Seats Plus make the car suitable for even the most extensive of road trips.
The most notable exterior feature is the paint color Sally Blue Metallic, which is offered exclusively for the 911 Sally Special and inspired by the character. Adding to this striking hue, the elements of the Sport Design front and rear fascia – usually kept in black – are also painted in Sally Blue Metallic, as are the rear engine lid and surroundings. Porsche lettering in shimmering Alushine and a 996-generation style “Carrera” designation at the rear add to the one-of-one appearance of the 911 Sally Special. Rounding off the one-of-a-kind 911 is the set of 911 Turbo (996) design wheels that were created exclusively for this car. The “Turbo” inspired wheels fitted to Sally Carrera have been redesigned by Style Porsche designers in Weissach and created specifically for the 911 Sally Special. The five-spoke design have been subtly modified to match the 20/21-inch diameter of current-generation 911 wheels, but remain true to the 996 Porsche. These completely unique wheels are only intended to be fitted to this one car. Rounding off the extensive list of exterior enhancements are LED Matrix design headlights with full silver surrounds, which are exclusive to the 911 Sally Special.
The interior is equally stunning, as almost every surface inside the car has been refined or changed by the Sonderwunsch Manufaktur team. It is centered around the Chalk leather and Speed Blue and Chalk stitching, along with Pepita seat inserts in a combination of Black, Chalk and Speed Blue. The lower part of the dashboard features deviating leather in Chalk, and the front seat backs are also covered in Chalk leather and Speed Blue stitching. Crossover stitching in Speed Blue and Chalk adorns the upper part of the dashboard, door panels and rear side panels and is only available via the Sonderwunsch Factory Commissioning program. Continuing this theme, shift lever of the seven-speed manual transmission has a Speed Blue gear pattern scheme – another unique feature of the Sally Special. The carpet of the vehicle is made of Slate Grey material, adding to the special color tone. Opening the doors, passengers are greeted by customized milled door sill guards with a Sally Special emblem illuminated and a Sport Steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marker in Speed Blue, which also carries a Sport Response button that has been relabeled “Kachow mode”. The interior trim is painted in Sally Blue Metallic, bringing the unique hue of the exterior to the inside of the car. Even special details such as the leather binder for the owner’s manual and the key set (painted in Sally Blue, of course) has been adorned with special “Sally” lettering paying tribute to the inspirational film character. A special printing on the dashboard above the glove compartment signifies this car as true one-of-one vehicle.
Sally Carrera is featured in each of the three Cars movies, as the girlfriend of main character, Lightning McQueen and proud proprietor of the Cozy Cone Motel in fictional Radiator Springs. Like Sally Carrera’s kind, compassionate and giving character, this road-going interpretation will benefit charitable causes, with 100% of proceeds, excluding taxes and fees, going towards two worthy charities. Beneficieries include Girls Inc., supporting life-changing programs for girls and young women, and USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, providing aid to children and their families affected by the war in Ukraine.
Finished by hand by the Sonderwunsch team in Zuffenhausen and signed underneath the front hood (i.e. “frunk”) by many from the project team at Porsche and Pixar, the 911 Sally Special will be accompanied by many one-of-a-kind auction items underlining unique nature of the project. It starts with a timepiece of which only one will be made, created by Porsche Design in collaboration with Pixar. As a suitable contrast to the natural titanium of the watch and a perfect match for the vehicle, the colored ring on the dial is painted in Sally Blue Metallic. The chalk-colored leather strap with decorative stitching in Speed Blue underlines the sporty design of the Cars-inspired one-of-a-kind item. This strap can be exchanged quickly and without tools for an additional, second leather strap in Speed Blue with decorative stitching in chalk if desired. A closer look at the chronograph reveals limited-edition numbering 001/001 to match the vehicle on the case back – mirroring the attention to detail exhibited on the car itself. The chronograph is powered by the COSC-certified Porsche Design chronograph caliber WERK 01.100, which was developed at Porsche Design Timepieces AG, Porsche Design’s own watch Manufaktur in Solothurn, and designed and manufactured with Swiss craftsmanship.
In addition, the car is accompanied by a second set of wheels in the ‘Carrera Exclusive’ design – mounted on a custom made rack – intended for track use, should the owner wish to fully exploit the performance of the car. Supporting this is an array of smaller, items created during the development of the 911 Sally Special. These include bespoke indoor car cover made by Porsche Tequipment, the original color molds used to finalize the paint for the car, the show plates for the car, a very special book charting the design and development of the car with images of its construction and original sketches by Porsche designer Suichi Yamashita, and Pixar’s Cars Production Designer Bob Pauley. As with many elements of the project, only one book will be made.
Finished by hand at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur in Zuffenhausen, the “911 Sally Special” is a truly exclusive offering not to be missed, with proceeds benefiting deserving causes.

Jad Salts, which combined several chemicals into a purge and diuretic, was seized by the FDA in the early 1920s for claims to cure rheumatism, dizziness, joint pains, and other problems. However, Jad’s maker joined the ranks of “reducing racketeers” by the early 1930s, when Jad was relabeled to treat obesity, yet another spurious if not unsafe product beyond the reach of the law.

"Marchosias is a great marquesse, he sheweth himselfe in the shape of a cruell shee woolfe, with a griphens wings, with a serpents taile, and spetting I cannot tell what out of his mouth. When he is in a mans shape, he is an excellent fighter, he answereth all questions trulie, he is faithfull in all the conjurors businesse, he was of the order of dominations, under him are thirtie legions: he hopeth after 1200 yeares to returne to the seventh throne, but he is deceived in that hope." -Johann Wier (1583)
More simply: Marchosias appears as a wolf (sometimes male, sometimes female) with griffin's wings and a serpent's tail, and spits flames - though he can turn into a man on command. he's a powerful fighter, and more reliable than most demons when it comes to answering questions. The reason for this is because he is deluded into thinking that he can earn his way back into Heaven... which is kinda sad, really. Actually, very sad. Though admittedly, it gets less sad when you realize that he readily commands thirty legions of Hell's forces, which doesn't seem all that repentant. Oops!
Another entry in the "Things I Am No Longer Allowed to Do" list is: "I am not allowed to call Marchosias and his demonic legions 'Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.'"
ADDENDUM: I totally screwed the pooch (bad pun!) on this one, originally identifying him as Amon. I've fixed and relabeled the original image: www.flickr.com/photos/74529773@N07/7091613595/

I'm pleased by the clarity and concision of the following article from the Nation of Change website:
Why It’s a Privilege to be a Progressive in 2013 | NationofChange.
But I just can't help attempting an answer to the question asked at the end of the article, and which is, I think, important:
Research shows that conservatives will "rationalize away social inequalities in order to justify the status quo." They are orderly and moralistic and dependent on authority. Liberals, on the other hand, are more open to new ideas and experiences, probably because they have more of the gray matter that helps to manage complexity in the thought processes.
But if we're so smart..
..Why do we lose the wars of language and emotion to the conservatives?
[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="200"] English: Anterior cingulate gyrus.[/caption]
First, I should say that I don't believe that liberals are "losing the wars of of language and emotion to the conservatives." In general, I sense that the daft, over-simplified kind of thinking that leads to, say, the denial of global climate change or ludicrous pronunciamentos regarding women and pregnancy, is slowly being exposed for what it is: junk thought that everyone ought to ignore.
But why is there such a polarized disconnect? I'm not a social science expert, but I can only imagine that whole galaxies of reasons exist. What I'm fascinated by, however, are neurological explanations. Using science in this way is certainly no more than conjectural exercise, but a compellingly consistent picture of neural diversity is being painted that we ought to pay attention to.
We could look, for example, at some fascinating research that has been done correlating brain structure and political attitudes. Summarizing one study, Joshua Holland writes:
Looking at MRIs of a large sample of young adults last year, researchers at University College London discovered that “greater conservatism was associated with increased volume of the right amygdala” ( $$). The amygdala is an ancient brain structure that's activated during states of fear and anxiety. (The researchers also found that “greater liberalism was associated with increased gray matter volume in the anterior cingulate cortex” – a region in the brain that is believed to help people manage complexity.)
Additional studies corroborate and replicate this connection, suggesting why it is, particularly from a liberal point of view, political conservatives seem to think re-actively rather than rationally, simplistically rather than complexly.
If liberals are losing the culture wars, it is not because liberal thought is somehow inherently flawed. It is because brain structure leads to ideology, and--to take that idea to the next, wildly over-simplified level--that means some of us are born with a neural morphology that leads to--well, a desire to join the NRA or the Tea Party.
If this were true (and it's a big "if"), then liberals, if they are to remain loyal to their social values, should stop condemning conservatives for their lack of empathy, or for their refusal to acknowledge the actual complexity of our social and environmental problems, or for their unwillingness to develop truly thoughtful, equitable, nuanced proposals for social change. The conservative brain that produces reactionary, black-and-white bloviating, is just another form of neural diversity. Conservatives are complete, whole, and perfect just as they are--just as are blacks, illegal aliens, Muslims, the disabled, the gay, the transgendered, women, and so on. If liberals wish to consistently champion and celebrate the inherent worth of human racial, religious, sexual, and gender diversity, then they must also celebrate the neural diversity of their conservative brothers and sisters.
But there's a catch.
Celebrating, rather than condemning, some forms of neural diversity would be liberals' ineluctable choice, were it not for another fact of neuroscience: neuroplasticity. You see, neural diversity exists in an enormous range of forms in part because brain structure is not a static thing. And changes to its form and function occur to a greater degree and at a faster pace than most people realize.
[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="200"] A rotating animation of the human brain showing the left frontal lobe in red within a semitransparent skull. The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is sometimes also included in the frontal lobe. Other authors include the ACC as a part of limbic lobe. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)[/caption]
For example, numerous studies have shown a strong correlation between changes in brain structure and the deliberate attempt to cultivate positive thoughts (as in metta meditation) or in the "open monitoring" practice of mindfulness. Those changes result in reduced amygdala density and correspond to a reduction in stress rumination, as well as in a thickening of those portions of the brain responsible for higher order thinking skills, empathy, and self-regulation. In other words, the brain responds, functionally and structurally, to predominant mental activity. As an aside, I have to mention in regard to the "higher order thinking skills" mentioned in this paragraph, the irony of the Texas GOP's explicit opposition to "the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)" which it viewed as "simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority." In other words, obedience is preferred over independent thinking.
[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="240"] Conservatism Manifesto. (Photo credit: mmoneib)[/caption]
Never mind, that the "founding fathers," whom conservatives consistently revere, were highly independent, literally revolutionary, thinkers--and they produced the country that conservatives always claim to be defending.
The bottom line, therefore, is that the field of liberal tolerance does not have to include shoddy thinking just because it is born of another form of diversity. It should, however, encourage meditation and mindfulness practices as a way to improve one's outlook, one's health, and one's willingness to be good to others. In this, I think, there is still room for conservative thought, perhaps the most conservative thought of all: cease from callousness to harmful behaviors, cultivate wholesome intentions, and act in ways that will benefit everyone.

Miyamoto Orchids in Waianae, HI, The plant was relabeled as Ascocentrum garayi which is now Vanda garayi. The plant is growing in a 4-inch plastic basket. with bark as the media. Nov.7, 2018: The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, in Cairo, Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms.
The museum’s exhibits span from the beginning of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt (approximately 2700 BC) through the Greco-Roman period. The building consists of two floors. On the ground floor, you can follow the history of Egypt from the Old Kingdom up through the Greco-Roman period by turning left at the entrance and looping around the museum. This provides a good background for most of Egypt’s ancient history.
Upstairs the museum is organized thematically with a large portion of the area taken up the exhibit of the contents of Tutankhamun’s tomb, including his famous funerary mask. Also upstairs is the room dedicated to the beautiful jewelry discovered in the Royal Tombs of Tanis. Another highlight of the museum, the Royal Mummy Room, requires the purchase of a separate ticket. Inside you can see the mummies of some of Egypt’s most famous pharaohs, including Ramesses II, Seti I, and Egypt’s only queen, Hatshepsut.
The museum has so much to offer that it can be overwhelming. It suffers from the fact that much of the contents have not been relabeled or reorganized since they were first arranged in their cases over a century ago. The result is that some sections provide very little context for the artifacts and labels are shown in a variety of languages- French, English, Greek, German, and Arabic. The difficulty of navigating the exhibits is a common complaint by visitors and a good reason to have a guide with you.
New Grand Egyptian Museum: At the edge of the ancient pyramids of Giza, some 5,000 construction workers labor around the clock to finish the long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum. Expected to open by the end of this year, the 5.2-million-square-foot structure will become the world's largest museum devoted to a single civilization. Costing more than $1 billion, the museum will re-house and restore some of the country's most precious relics. Its expansive, glass-fronted building offers sweeping panoramas of the Giza plateau and Great Pyramids, which stand just two kilometers away.

I posted this photo as "SAFE," but for reasons I do not understand, the new owners of Flickr have set my account so all of my photos are automatically relabeled "restricted." It seems I can change them to "moderate," but I cannot change them back to "safe." So if my totally harmless photo of a sunrise disappears, it's because the new owners figured out how to find something horribly offensive in it.

As a result of a lawsuit by the Philco Radio Company in the early 1940s, Philips was prevented from using the name "Philips" on any products marketed in the United States. The two names were judged to sound similar enough to cause consumer confusion. As a result, Philips instead used the name Norelco, an acronym for "North American Philips [electrical] Company" for their products sold in the United States. Philips continued to use that name for all their U.S. products until 1974, when Philips purchased The Magnavox Company Philips then relabeled their U.S. consumer electronics products as Magnavox. MANCHURIAN AIR TRANSPORT COMPANY, LTD. (MANSHU KOKUYUS KABUSHIKI KAISHA-MKKK): Manchuria (1932-1945). This carrier, also known as Manchuko Airways, MAT, Manko, or MKKK, is established on September 26, 1932 by the Japanese-controlled Manchukuo government and the Sumitomo Railroad syndicate to provide air transport throughout Manchuria and to act as a transport squadron for occupying Imperial Army troops. The airline was mobilized for military duties at least 10 times in just the next 5 years.
The company was outfitted with the first of 35 Fokker Model 8 Super Universals and 25 de Havilland DH 80A Puss Moths, many of which would be license-built by the airline at Mukden. Commercial operations commenced on 3 November over three principal routes: Mukden to Changchun, Harbin to Tsitsihar, and Mukden to Sinuiju, where connections could be had with the Nihon Koku Yuso Kabushiki Kaisha (NKYKK) service to Tokyo.
The first two license-built Super Universals, relabeled Manko Type 1s, were completed at Mukden on October 2. In November, an MKKK Photographic Division was formed and several Model 8s were modified into camera planes. Two Fokker F-VII/3ms were imported and the fleet at year’s end includes these 2 Dutch-built trimotors, as well as 16 Model 8/Manko Type 1s and 12 DH 80s. As 1933 draws to a close, MKKK initiates new routes from Mukden and Hsinking to Chengte, in Jehol Province.

Grandkids had a lovely afternoon. This caboose has been in the park for years, pretty much unmaintained. It was used as a Scout Hut for a short time in the mid ninties but otherwise was just sitting there. While it's still just sitting there a Scout, last month, orgainized an exterior refurbishment for an Eagle project. It has been repainted, rewindowed, and relabeled with it's original logos.
