So we were standing down by the fire pit lighting off fireworks, like typical us. My Dad, my cousin and I. Suddenly my Dad decided we should run back at the deck and watch the rest from there. I tried to convince him that wasn't a smart idea, but he wouldn't listen, like typically. In a split second the firework miss fired and headed right as me. My camera was right next to me, basically if it wouldn't have got a rebound off my camera and out of my armpit, I bet I would be armless tonight or at least losing part of it.

Ugh.....scary experience and very painful.

Lately I became so critical of my own work, nearly nothing made it to Flickr anymore. It all had to fit together, be perfectly artful and artfully imperfect, have mystique and pose questions, break the boundaries of photography, express more than what was visible, all of that. I was so hung up on making "art" that I finally forgot to just enjoy myself. A picture like the one above didn't make it anymore. What a shame, because I think it's beautiful in its own right.

The imperial city of Chemnitz was founded in the 12th century, emerging from a Benedictine monastery. Its rise as an important trading centre in the foothills of the Ore Mountains was followed by the establishment of the city as a commercial and later industrial location in the wake of the emerging mining industry in the Ore Mountains in the 16th century. Supported primarily by coal mining in western Saxony, Chemnitz developed into one of the most important centres of German mechanical engineering and the textile industry in the 19th century. During this period, Chemnitz was also known as Little Manchester or Rußchemnitz. In the 1920, it was a leading city in the European textile market. Auto Union (today Audi) was founded 1932 in Chemnitz. In the 1930s, the three busiest squares in the Greater German Reich were Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, Stachus in Munich and Johannisplatz in Chemnitz, of which nothing remains today except the name. Its economic importance made Chemnitz a primary target for Allied air forces during the Second World War, resulting in the city being almost completely destroyed in February 1945. Even after the Second World War and the reconstruction of the destroyed industrial plants, Chemnitz remained one of the most important industrial centres in the GDR, the East German state founded in 1949.. On 10 May 1953, the city was renamed by decision of the East German government to Karl-Marx-Stadt (Karl Marx City) after Karl Marx, in recognition of its industrial heritage and the Karl Marx Year marking the 135th anniversary of his birth and the 70th anniversary of his death. After the city centre was destroyed in World War II, the East German authorities attempted to rebuild it to symbolise the conceptions of urban development of a socialist city. The historic layout of the city centre at that time was rejected in favour of a new road network. However, the original plans were not completed.. After the peaceful revolution of 1989 in the GDR, but still before the German reunification, a referendum on the future name of the city was held on 23 April 1990, : 76% of the voters voted for the old name "Chemnitz". On 1 June 1990, the city was officially renamed. After the reunification of Germany on 3 October 1990, the city of Chemnitz faced several difficult tasks. Many inhabitants migrated to the former West Germany and unemployment in the region increased sharply..Since than, the layout of the city centre has been changed fundamentally with the collaboration of renowned international architects Most of its industry is now gone and the core of the city has been rebuilt with many shops as well as huge shopping centres. . Chemnitz has had to reinvent itself, like so many times before in its long history. This process has led to ithe election of the city as one of the two Capitals of European Culture in 2025.

AKA: My first reject!

I liked the idea behind this a lot, but I couldn't seem to get it to work the way I wanted it to. The angle wasn't terribly flattering, and I kept getting head rushes from setting the camera, then standing up too fast and running up the stairs.

It's also obviously altered, as to maintain my modesty.

You know I love taking photos in my car. The lighting is great. Inmycar+50mm? =yeah baby!!!

I still liked the one in the basement better (I used it as the official shot), but hey.

I have also decided that I like my hair less puffy. Like...I like the back all spiky, but I prefer the front either sleeker or tucked behind my ears. This was kinda the way my stylist did it, more "bigger" and still smooth but to the side and I mean it looks great, but it feels a little fancy for me. That day I WAS a bit more dressed up than usual for work so it looked good, but not something I think I want for everyday wear.

I am probably going to be posting a LOT of photos today. I am sick in bed :-( Not the flu, more like a stomach bug. Ugh. Dave is gone for a bit and I am tired of sleeping so I am going to try to catch up on some editing - extras and such I wanted to look at, and still TONS MORE Vegas photos!

Reject..

I am thinking about the struggles women and children are faced with every day who are bravely fighting for their freedom and rights and hope they are soon liberated and live life in freedom and peace soon. Prayers that all remaining hostages of Israel are safe soon brought home to their families' loved ones. ️ 🙏

Taken just after my light redesigns of Deadshot, Harley, Diablo, Spider and Shark to introduce other members of the N52 Squad.

Featuring a pretty cobbled-together version of Cap'n Boomerang I don't think was terribly successful.

Here are two previously unpublished photos in a row. Both are from the same photography session with the idea to use a large Lego brick as a mobile weapon of the forces of darkness. I do not know, the idea felt pretty good for a while, but time passed and these ended up rejected. However I can show these now (as a bonus!) in this old format where these differ from my flickrstream in general.

This cute cat is not always lucky in love.

Ever wonder why no one calls? With billions on the planet the phone doesn't ring?

I went out with Penny to take some photos because the Heavenly Queen Statue had just been put up and the clouds were beautiful. She wanted to use her 40D so i was stuck with the 350.

I took this shot as we were walking there and was surprised at how good it turned out.

I love this photo as much as the other one I took. Sometimes I wish I could use two shots for my 365 *sigh*

For my 30th birthday last week, Sarah got me this journal :D

It's fantastically creative, although I fear it's going to be a difficult task for me to accomplish. I usually keep things (especially books) in as near as mint condition as I possibly can. The thought of - shock! - having to rip out a page scares me something silly! I just know it's going to be damn fun though :D

Thanks chick x

Oh, and I'm purposefully avoiding the How To Wreck A Journal flickr group so as not to corrupt my own destructive ideas....

(Confused by the star? It's for this group - check it out!)

Lately I've been focusing on the head for this robot I've been working on. I've found a technique I like for lips using a trimmed down ribbed hose.

Here's a head I came up with that's too goofy for what I need with my current build but I wanted to share it anyway.

This was my entry for Bricklink's AFOL Designer Program... A 515 parts minifigscale, studless, compact starfighter, with nice building techniques and a modular conception to ease the building.

I was doing a cleanup of my photos, deleting files to make room on my computer, when I came across this in my "rejects" folder. I'm not quite sure why I thought this was a reject when first taken and viewed. I really love it now. Funny how things can look different on a second look.

Looks great viewed large on black.

Ophelia on the left, Harriet on the right. Ophie is Harriet's mother. Both were raised by us for the Seeing Eye, but Ophelia went into breeding and Harriet was too neurotic to lead anyone blind around. So, actually, only Harriet was not accepted. The Seeing Eye just decided not to train Ophie after they were done using her for breeding. (sorry, mom...didn't mean to trash talk your little lambs ;)

it's quite nice outside...

Extra(out of the)ordinary

We're here visiting Out of the ordinary still life

My Rolos were rejected from the Smile on Saturday group because Rolo is a brand name (note to self - always read the small print), but I hope they make someone smile today! For those not familiar with Rolos the tagline for these chocolate covered caramels is “Do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo?”, and so if someone gives you their last one I hope it brings a smile to your face!

Everyone's posting about The Suicide Squad because they're everyone's favorite rejects - but what about the ones that got rejected from the reject team?

These characters come from a list of images and names James Gunn posted to his Twitter about DC characters that were considered but ultimately not included in The Suicide Squad. I thought it was a pretty great list with some interesting ideas for figures I've never made, so here they are.

Realized I forgot to include Knockout from the list. D'oh! Here's a version in case you're curious.

Left to right:

Top: Mr. Freeze, Solomon Grundy, Punch & Jewelee, and Rainbow Creature

Middle: Gunhawk, Killer Frost, Black Spider, and KGBeast

Bottom: Livewire, Deathstroke, Chemo, and Man-Bat

Some things are better left unposted.

Throwback from last December that I recently rediscovered. I was going to post this for Modern Conflict, but I couldn't find a way to tie it into the story.

I think I was playing way too much on Flood Zone shortly before making this.

I haven't had much time to take photos lately but I found this one which has been sitting in my rejected pile for four years now! Hope you like it now I have rescued it!

I got a whole series of these white wagtails last morning. The one who tried to get lucky, was rejected pretty fast.

This is one of my Day 204 rejects. I decided to go with the other after the Moo stickers showed up.
