Had a very fun time creaitng a subframe for Flickr Friday using our tiger lilies that just bloomed today and the tiny, high in the sky, wild fire smoke inhibited sun.
These four contestants didn't make the final of "Dancing with the Birds".
A Peacock, Grey Heron and two Muscovy Ducks looking rather dejected! Better luck next year guys!
Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.
captured in the abandoned Cavern of Lost Souls. (UK, 2015)
On my last photo trip I visited a lot of beautiful places in the United Kingdom but the Cavern of Lost Souls was the by far most intense and awesome place to see.
Used as a dumpster for unused vehicle for many years, this cavern became the most impressive lost place I have seen by now. Finally standing there and enjoying this one of a kind location made all the efforts for planning, the costs to get there and the high risk by navigating through the tunnel system and free climbing a 30 meters drop down in the pitch black totally worth. A view never to forget and an exploration I loved very much.
This old dead tree was full of birds today, and it **is** a favorite of the Acorn Woodpeckers. But this guy seemed to toss this one off as a reject.
Sand castles built on a small sandy beach overlook Lake Cascade in Idaho during sunset. The mountains in the distance are obscured by low-lying clouds... the remnants of a storm.

This eagle tried 3-4 times to swallow this skeletal portion of the head but couldn't get it to go down and finally spit it out. You might be able to see the eyeballs still attached to the carcass. It did eat the rest of this kokanee.
It isn't often that a catch gets a reprieve so late in the game but the gulf menhaden seen beneath the Brown Pelican's left wing will have quite a story to tell when it gets back to its school on Armand Bayou.
The four evangelists are traditionally depicted on the sails of the dome, and their symbolic images are written below them.
The evangelists are depicted with open books, the figure of each of them is twice the size of a person.
Saint Matthew the Evangelist is on the southeast sail.
According to the fathers of the church, each of the four animals, in addition to the evangelists, expresses a style or character that is characteristic of the gospel of each of them. The image of the winged man must be assimilated by Matthew, since he begins his gospel with the human genealogy of the Savior.
Matthew the Apostle, also known as Saint Matthew and possibly as Levi, was, according to the New Testament, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist, a claim rejected by most biblical scholars, though the "traditional authorship still has its defenders."
Took a few Powershot shots on my walk home from the train station this morning (after my night out last night)... I've narrowed it down to two options, but I'm not sure which I prefer....
Much quieter out here :)
Update: a close runner-up.
This is Eyrarfjall on the Djúpvegur (Route 61) into the Westfjörds.
The peak is actually the tip of a ridge running between Álftafjörður and Seyðisfjörður.
There isn’t much life up here - it’s pretty harsh and it was sleeting when we were shooting. Permanent snow isn’t far away - in the right background.
The mountain at left is Hestur (536m) which is actually on the OTHER side of Seyðisfjörður and about 4.5km away.
This shot was rejected in the first pass but recovered off the NAS when I was looking for another picture. Pretty pleased that it wasn’t chimped by the side of the road :-)

There are a lot of photos from my California trip last month that are in rejected folder for various reasons. This is one of them that went through heavily postprocess just for my amusement :)
