This is why I love shopping at Target... lots of registers, with lots of people working those registers... and they move fairly quickly! I get in, get my stuff, and checkout quickly.

This is the primary core of business. Allow the customer to get what they want (product or service) and easily hand over their money. When you make it hard for people to give you money, they grow frustrated. Which is also why I hate shopping at WalMart. WalMart also has a bunch of registers yet they dont' have that many people working them... and they move slowly. I've never been to Walmart where I've not experienced a long line and wait. They should make it easy for me to give them my money, yet it is more profitable for them to hire fewer employees and thus, make me wait.

So.... what does this mean? It means I'm frustrated with WalMart, and I don't go there anymore. I shop at Target because they don't make me frustrated. To paraphrase, "No one goes to WalMart anymore - it's too crowded."

Photograph taken at an altitude of Three metres at 12.22pm on Monday 29th May 2014 off 2903 Ocean Boulevard, Victoria, on the Esquimalt Lagoon Migratory Bird Sanctuary, on the Juan De Fuca Strait, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The Lagoon is one of seven Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in British Columbia, and an important stopover for birds journeying between North and South America. Visitors include geese and Swans, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons, plus many other species of birds.

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) is a wading bird in the Heron family Ardeidae and found in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Galapagos Islands. One of the largest of Herons, it has a head to tail length of 01-137 centimetres (36-54 inches) and a wingspan of 187-201 centimetres (66-79 inches). They are found where my family live, and naturally very wary of mankind, flying off as soon as you are within fifty to one hundred yards of them.

WEEK 49 – OB WM, Set I

A close-up of a closed register, number eight being our subject here. Besides the light, the entire checkout is indeed an artifact... well, not necessarily an artifact as that word connotes, but surely one in Walmart corporate speak! The Fire Exit sign on that door is also classic Walmart, though those haven't changed much to this day. I expect you might even find similar or identical ones in the new Horn Lake supercenter that's supposedly opening later this month.

Model "Truck T12 MkII" Mack Granite is build with LEGO® in scale 1:17,5 and motorized using LEGO® Power Functions. It is a model of a Mack Granite 6x4 day cab truck. Both the looks and specifications are adjusted to match lowboy ”Trailer Tr4 MkII” and the optional jeep and booster ”Trailer Tr4 MkII Add1”. This rather heavy lowboy trailer combination, which might include a load, requires some extra power.

The truck features: solid axle suspension on all axles of which the rear axle uses tandem bogie suspension, PF powered driving with power transmitted independently to both rear axles, reduced speed to increase power/torque, Ackerman geometry on steering axle, Servo powered steering, fully functional fifth wheel, fifth wheel slider, modeled engine, detailed cabin interior and 3 light units.

Even though this truck is designed to go with ”Trailer Tr4 MkII” plus ”Trailer Tr4 MkII Add1” lowboy combination in the first place, it doesn’t necessarily mean it can't be used with other available trailers as well. If you prefer to give it a flat bed or log trailer, you are free to do so!

If a different trailer is used it might be useful to give this truck's drivetrain a various gear setup. For this a separate PDF file is available that tells you what gear reductions to use with which trailer. It also shows you how to do so. Evidently the torque will be reduced, but with lighter weight trailers that is no problem at all.

This model is another custom design by Ingmar Spijkhoven AKA 2LegoOrNot2Lego that comes with building instructions and inventory/parts list!

You can build it yourself! To do so you can buy the Building Instructions. Early in the building process you will see what it is that you are building. You will be very excited from the moment you start the build of "Truck T12 MkII" till you finish it with about 360 different parts totaling 1900 pieces.

As one of the designer's trademarks this truck model is provided with full solid axle suspension on all axles, so including the front steered axle. Regular LEGO® Technic shock absorbers proved too large. Instead Rubber Belts are used, to achieve this the movement is converted using a lever constructions.

What is particularly new to this model is the double rear axle setup. This new setup allows easy axle and wheel travel. Because it doesn't use any shock absorbing the wheels and axles do not have to deal with any force. It is based around the concept of the walking beam suspension.

This Mack Granite model is powered by a Mack MP8 engine which is visible with the hood opened. This power source is an inline 6 cylinder engine with a displacement of 13.0 L. The horsepower range is from 425 up to 505 HP and this engine has a torque range from 1570 to 1760.

This detailed MP8 engine is nice to build and to give it those realistic looks a total number of 55 parts is used. It is detailed with for example engine oil dipstick, fan, fan belt, pulleys, hoses, oil filters including by-pass oil filter and a turbo.

Together with much more engine bay details which are added the looks are phenomenal. These include break fluid reservoir, windshield washer container, internal air cleaner system with tubing and steering shaft.

A lot of detail is added to the cabin's interior as well in the colors Dark Bluish Gray with some Reddish Brown details. By opening this model’s doors one can access the cabin. The interior's colors, which is quite dark, really standout because of the truck's body work mainly Orange color.

For the driver's comfort the interior has gauges, switches and comfortable seats. Other details are a angled dash and gauge panel, a steering wheel and a gear shift.

Seybold Building is a historic jewelry building in Miami, Florida. It was designed by Kiehnel and Elliott. The building was erected in two stages. The first three levels of the building were completed in 1921. John Seybold had a bakery and confectionery business which he operated on the main floor. An additional seven stories were added above the annex in 1925. The Seybold Building is a City of Miami historic landmark. Seybold sold the complex in 1941. It is a National Register of Historic Places contributing property as part of the Downtown Miami Historic District.

The Seybold building was built back in 1926 as the brainchild of its namesake, John Seybold, who moved to Miami in the late 19th century and eventually set up a bakery. That business burned down, but he bounced back with another bakery. He then went on to run a shopping mall, called an arcade back then, that became the basis of the 10-story Seybold building, which is the second largest diamond and jewelry center in the United States at 166,000 square feet (15,400 m2). The plan to transform the Seybold Building into a jeweler's hub had a helping hand from the Cuban revolution. At the start of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro directed his regime to confiscate businesses all over Cuba causing a mass exodus off the island. This resulted in Cuban goldsmiths starting manufacturing in the US with the Seybold Building being the biggest spot, where individuals continually - seven days a week manufacture from scratch diamond wedding rings. Handmade Cuban Link necklaces, all types of earrings, pendants, bracelets, & cufflink. Numerous Cuban engravers perform artisan stone setting, specializing in engraving, fabrication & wax carving using gold, silver & precious metals. Platinum is the most durable for wedding rings, lost-wax casting using a silversmithing or goldsmithing process in which a liquid material - in this case Platinum is usually poured into a mold, which contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to solidify. The solidified part is also known as a casting, which is ejected or broken out of the mold to complete the process. Platinum normally has a melting temperature of 1,700 °C (3,090 °F).

In the 1960s, the building's first jeweler moved in. Jeffrey Buchwald, a Hungarian immigrant who first opened his jewelry shop on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, moved to Miami to escape the cold. Today, Buchwald Jewelers is a third generation, family-run business, and co-owner Jeff Buchwald recalls visiting his family's store when he was just a kid. "We were the first jewelers in the building — back then there were a few stores and a lot of lawyers", Buchwald said. "By the time I took over 25 years ago, there were a lot more jewelers".

Mario's Casting, a second-generation family-run jewelry manufacturing business, immigrating to the United States in 1969 to try and pick up where they had left off. "In the 1970s, a lot of Cubans were coming over and making a home for their jewelry business in downtown Miami", said Martha Camero, one of the owners and operators of Mario's Casting. "As more and more jewelers moved into the Seybold Building, lawyers started moving out. Pretty soon, every single floor was filled with jewelry makers of all kinds.

WEEK 46 – Olive Branch Kroger, III

Here’s another look down the front end, taken closer to the checkouts themselves this time. The SunTrust bank branch on the left has reportedly closed down since this photo was taken, according to l_dawg2000 should still be operating like normal, my bad! (see comments). I did get a closer picture of it on one of my visits here, but it didn’t really turn out, so I had to cut it from this set.

Also, note that this store, unlike those that were remodeled later, did receive flytrap décor register lights!

"UNREGISTERED BARMAID.

Marguerita E. Webber, licencee of the Gilles Arms Hotel, Gilles street, Adelaide, was charged at the Adelaide Police Court, before Mr. E. M. Sabine, P.M., on Monday morning with having allowed an unregistered barmaid to serve liquor on her premises on February 5. Nurse Eva Lynch was charged with having served liquor, being unregistered. Both defendants pleaded guilty. The Police Prosecutor (Detective-Sgt. Allchurch) said that Constable Cain had seen another man served, and had been served himself, by Nurse Lynch. The licencee was ill at the time, and there was no one on the premises to serve liquor. The defendant said she had thought she was only doing the licencee a good turn. The licencee, in answer to the charge, said she had not known that the nurse was serving. The P.M., in finding the defendants respectively £2, with 10/ costs, and £1 10/, with 15/ costs, said he would not endorse, the first defendant's licence regarding the offence."

**Seligman Commercial Historic District** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 04000511, date listed 2/1/2005

Roughly bounded by First and Lamport Sts, and Picacho and Railroad Aves.

Seligman, AZ (Yavapai County)

The Seligman district was constructed during a sixty-year period that began in 1903 and ended in 1963.

The importance of Main Street was reaffirmed when the Old Trails Highway, the first true transcontinental roadway through northern Arizona, was routed through Seligman in the 1910s. This same route gained additional status when the federal government made it part of U.S. Route 66 in 1926 (Cteeland 1988; Ryden 1996). Construction activity in the commercial district from the 1910s through early 1930s followed this path.

Route 66 moved from Railroad Avenue to Chino Street in 1933. Commercial buildings constructed around or after that date increasingly showed an orientation to the automobile. Buildings in the "roadside architecture" style used innovative features to lure motorists and capture their dollars Such features were designed to convey an instantaneous impression of modernism, cleanliness, safety, and convenience.

The beginning of the end for Route 66 came in 1956, when Congress passed the Interstate Highway Bill authorizing construction of a new road network linking major metropolitan areas. The new highway system bypassed small towns in an effort to make travel across the states faster. Although it would be 18 more years until Seligman met the same fate, all new commercial construction in its downtown would cease in 1963. After that date, construction of business estabiishments shifted to sites east and west of downtown where Route 66 would eventually connect with the interstate. (1)

Snow Cap Drive-In

This is a "mom and pop" Route 66 Café that used an eye catching parapet on the roof with ice cream cones. It was built in 1953 by Juan Delgadillo and his family. He became part of the Snow Cap Drive-In chain of Prescott Arizona and sold their ice creams until the company went broke in 1997. Juan negotiated with them and became owner of the name, the last Snow Cap in operation. (2)

Behind the Disney Store registers, after I bought my Jasmine doll and Aladdin tsum tsums. Unused LE Jasmine voucher cards and line cards. Store lighting.

I got to a local mall about 7:40 am, and went to the Disney Store to wait for it to open at 10 am. They had the display Jasmine doll and a promo placard on a shelf behind the counter, and bins full of Aladdin tsums on the floor behind the counter. There was already a man and his young daughter in line ahead of me. They were waiting for the Aladdin tsum tsums, and didn't know about the Jasmine doll. The next person in line was with a friend, and worked at Disneyland. He was also there for the tsums, and didn't know anything about the doll. But he was curious, and after talking to him about the LE doll line, he decided to get one for a "friend." LOL. Later a fellow collector that I knew joined the line, and we chatted for awhile. Then a regular at the LE doll releases and his family came and we also chatted. He was very surprised by how many people were there, but was relieved when he found out that almost all of them were for the tsum tsums. The line was getting very long. Security came around 9:30 and told us to stand up.

At about 9:45 a CM came out and told us the ground rules for the release. Then she gave out line cards for Jasmine. They had 20 dolls, and she gave out 16 cards to those waiting. Naturally, I was #1. Right after the opening ceremony, we formed two lines. One was strictly for tsum tsums (which was where the original line was at). The other, much shorter line was for the Jasmine dolls, and we could also order Aladdin tsum tsums at the same time. I got my doll, and the CM never asked me for the line card. This the first line card I've been allowed to keep. Afterwards I was allowed to take photos of the doll. But it was very cramped behind the registers, and I didn't want to get in the way, so I only took a couple of photos.

I then went to another local Disney Store, and was lucky enough to get another Jasmine, for a fellow collector. They had 16 dolls, and sold 8 of them before I got there. I also took some photos of the doll, using flash this time, as there were annoying shadows across Jasmine's face.
