This is the last hummer I saw for the year on 9/27. The native hummers left our garden on 9/16, so this northern Ruby Throated Hummingbird apparently stopped here to carb load on cardinal flower and salvia.

With the catenary de-energized for weekend maintenance, Dover-NYP trains were running with dual modes. The nearest fuel pad was Port Morris Yard, necessitating moves to and from Dover. One of these moves brings an 8 car multilevel set -- a consist unlikely to appear west of Dover in revenue service -- through Lake Hopatcong station.

I shot this male Anna's Hummingbird last November. I uploaded a version of the shot (see comments) at that time. As I was going through some older shots last week I rediscovered it and decided to re-work the image a bit. I widened the crop to include more of the feeder, bumped up the exposure a bit, and knocked out some of the noise.

Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), refuel a UH-1Y Venom utility helicopter during a Forward Arming and Refueling Point (FARP) training exercise at Landing Zone Dodo, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 5, 2021. A FARP operation allows aircraft to be refueled and re-armed at a distance closer to the area of operations than the main operating base, which decreases the turnaround time during sustained operations. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region. The High Flux Isotope Reactor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the highest flux reactor-based source of neutrons for research in the United States, and it provides one of the highest steady-state neutron fluxes of any research reactor in the world. Operating at 85 MW, an average fuel cycle for the HFIR generally runs for approximately 26 days—depending on the experiment loading for that cycle—followed by a refueling and maintenance outage for various scheduled calibrations, modifications, repairs, and inspections.
The reactor underwent routine refueling in July 2015, as seen in these photos. While submersed, the spent fuel emits a luminescent blue glow due to Cherenkov radiation, in which shedding electrons move through the water faster than the speed of light in water. Once removed from the reactor, spent fuel is then relocated into an adjacent holding pool for interim storage.
This image shows spent fuel in the HFIR pool storage array.

Soldiers from the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment, Utah National Guard, load four AH-64D Apache helicopters onboard a C-5 Galaxy, to be transported to Morocco in support of African Lion 22, a U.S. Africa Command annual exercise on Saturday, June 18, 2022.
The 1-211th ARB aircraft maintainers prepped the aircraft for loading onto the C-5 by folding the blades and then members of the 151st Air Refueling Wing, Utah Air National Guard, assisted in loading and securing the helicopters on the C-5 from Travis Air Force Base, California, for transportation to Morocco. The engineering mockup of the Robotic Refueling Mission (RRM) module is currently on display within the press building at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The RRM mission is a joint effort between NASA and the Canadian Space Agency designed to demonstrate and test the tools, technologies, and techniques needed to robotically refuel satellites in space. Reporters have the opportunity to get a close-up view of the replica module and tools that are a part of the final shuttle mission payload.
