Mum and Dad took up painting when Dad retired. They went on painting weekends together and took classes. Mum followed the teacher's instructions and painted what she thought would look right. My father never followed the teacher's instructions and formed his own relationship with what he was painting.
A calm evening and the lighting just right produces enchanting reflections, on Otter Lake on the Blue Ridge Parkway, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia…
A pond abuting on the Little Brombachsee rather close to the village of Absberg, Franconia (Bavaria)
Some background information:
The Little Brombachsee and its connected lakes Huge Brombachsee and Igelsbachsee make up an artificial reservoir, which belongs to the so called Franconian Lakeland. It serves the water regulation, but because of its great recreation offer it's also a favoured recreational area for the residents of the city of Nuernberg as well as a popular tourist destination for holidaymakers from farer away.
The lakes are located only 37 km south of the city of Nuremberg. The water in the lakes comes via a transition from the river Altmuehl, which is a subsidiary stream of the river Danube, while the lakes’ outlet is the the small river Brombach.
All three lakes together contain about 150 Mio m³ of water. The reservoir has an overall length of about ten km and an overall width of about two km. The maximum water depth is ca. 33 m. The other lakes, which belong to the Franconian Lakeland, are the Rothsee, the Altmuehlsee, the Hahnenkammsee and the Dennenloher See. All in all these seven lakes amount to a water surface of about 20 square kilometres.
Although the three lakes Huge Brombachsee, Little Brombachsee and Igelsbachsee were flooded just about 20 years ago they fit harmoniously in the hilly and forest countryside. Hence visitors get the impression that they have always been there. The lakes offer the guests numerous activities like swimming, other aquatic sports, cycling and hiking.
One of the highlights is the elegant ‘MS Brombachsee’, the largest Trimaran on a lake in Europe, which cruises the lake from spring to autumn. Moreover, the largest lake harbour in Germany with about 600 docking spaces is situated in Ramsberg.
The lakes have changed the scenery a lot, just like the possibilities to earn a living. Hotels, restaurants and campsites have been built and many farmers have also built and furnished holiday apartments. Letting them to tourists is an acceptable additional income for them. Many tourists are German-based, but there are also a lot of visitors from the rest of Europe, in particular from the Netherlands.
The village of Absberg is situated on a promontory between the Igelsbachsee to the north and the Little Brombachsee to the south, about 50 km (31 miles) southwest of the city of Nuremberg. The commune has about 1,400 residents, who mainly make their living from tourism and agriculture.
In 948, Absberg was first mentioned in a document. In 1455, it was granted the right to execute low justice. After the noble house of the Knights of Absberg had died out in 1647, the German Order was awarded its ancestral seat Absberg Castle and all of its estates in 1651. However, today the castle is lost completely. In 1725, a second Absberg Castle was built in the Baroque style on behalf of Karl Heinrich von Hornstein, who was a knight and commander of the German Order.
After Prussia had occupied the area in 1796, it was adjudged to the Kingdom of Bavaria in the Treaty of Paris of 1806, while a different region was allocated to Prussia. At the same time, the German Order had all its rights revoked. Today, the baroque Absberg Castle still exists and is also still in good repair. But as it has become a retirement home, it is not open to the public.

Still waiting for sun but had to grab a bunch of photos of the visiting wood duck even though a very heavily overcast morning with flat light. All are cropped and have noise that erodes detail but saving just in case it leaves. :) Hoping to get closer at some point but it is very skittish. Sorry for so many of the same wood duck. :) More to come.
location : Sanzen-in (三千院)temple Kyoto city ,Kyoto prefecture,Japan
Yusei-en garden(有清園) and main hall
Sanzen-in (三千院) is a Tendai school monzeki temple in Ōhara, Kyoto, Japan. The Heian period triad of Amida Nyorai flanked by attendants is a National Treasure.
Sanzenin Temple is the main attraction of the rural town of Ohara(大原), which is located about an hour north of central Kyoto(京都). The approach from Ohara bus stop to Sanzenin is lined with shops and restaurants catering to temple visitors, and there are a number of smaller temples in the vicinity. Sanzenin Temple itself has large temple grounds and a variety of buildings, gardens and walking paths.
Sanzenin is a temple of the Tendai sect of Japanese Buddhism and was founded by nobody less than the revered monk Saicho who introduced Tendai Buddhism to Japan in 804. Sanzenin is a monzeki temple( 門跡), one of only a few temples whose head priests used to be members of the imperial family.
After entering the temple through the front gate, visitors to Sanzenin pass through a series of connected temple buildings. The first major building is the Kyakuden (guest hall), which displays works of Japanese calligraphy and paintings on sliding doors (fusuma襖). The building opens up onto the Shuhekien Garden, a traditional Japanese garden that has a small pond and hill.
Connected to the Kyakuden by a corridor, the Shinden (main hall) displays statues of three Buddhist deities, the central figure of Amida Buddha being flanked by the attendants Kannon and Fudo Myoo. From the Shinden visitors can enjoy the most famous view of Sanzenin Temple: the Ojo Gokuraku-in Hall seen through maple and cedar trees across a moss garden.
After admiring the view from the Shinden, visitors walk through the moss garden. A tranquil atmosphere permeates the garden, and there are a number of amusing stone statues that peek out from the moss.
Located in the middle of the moss garden, the Ojo Gokuraku-in Hall(往生極楽院) is the oldest temple building at Sanzenin. The hall was first built in 985 and most recently rebuilt in 1143. It holds a statue of Amida Buddha, Sanzenin's most valued treasure. The statue of Amida is accompanied by two attendant deities, Kannon on one side and Seishi on the other.

It's a lovely reflective building in Grand Junction, Colorado. I went out on a quest one day to do some local shooting and this was one of the results.
To bring our despair into consciousness would reveal our exhausted spirits, our broken communities, and our violent relationships at home and abroad...
Lamentations’ testimony is bitter, raw, and largely unhealed. Its poems use “wounded words” (Forché 41-46) to illumine pain and resist God's acts in the world. In its ragged struggles to articulate suffering and arrive at hope, it peers into wounds and raises fierce questions about God. Aggressively confronting suffering and resolutely refusing to whitewash truth, Lamentations has become for me a mirror of my wounds and of the wounds of the world. For all its brutality, I find in it an invitation to life.

At the risk of boring you: There are still so many photos from this shooting worth to be shown... :)
A Reflective Mood
Loch Arthur near Beeswing, Dumfries & Galloway. A misty morning, trees, low light and bags of mood. One of those morning where you could have made shots for hours.

It has taken me ages to type these up as I have been really busy. Right then cast your mind back to January 2014, that is when I first rode on 394 back on the days it was mainstay on the 19 and any other Marine route. Quite a lot has changed since then. With regards to 394 it runs from a different depot, has a different screen and has had a change in paint. And by god I have been trying to tick this one off the list for ages. And it was actually a stroke of luck as I was waiting for the bus when this pulled in a couldn't resist a snap and with a healthy crop it isn't too bad. (Note the very reflective autumnal window that looks nice). Here we see Lothian buses 394 at Cameron Toll shopping Centre on a service 8 to Muirhouse.
With a fair amount of rain already fallen during the day, while selecting a spot to shoot trains, came across this reflection of the rim in the water in the wagon.
Buildings in the Medienhafen district, Dusseldorf reflected in a body of water.
Thanks for looking 🙏😊

I returned to a favorite little pond in the Little Missouri National Grassland Saturday evening with hopes of catching some reflected sundown glow but this was as good as it got before the sun hid behind a cloud bank, only to return brilliantly beneath that cloud bank as I made the drive home, of course. It would have been too late to capture the light in this valley but I should have had a "Plan B" for another location nearby. Oops! (6-8-2024)
