The Columbia Journalism Review, watchdog to us all in the news biz, used to sport a simple, smartly styled design that presented editorial content without overpowering it (and managed to impress a distinct design flavor on the user all the while).
That’s gone now, in an odd time warp that feels like it’s making all the past decade’s news site design mistakes all at the same time. I kept clicking around, hoping this was some kind of stunt. But I don't expect to be doing much clicking for the foreseeable future.

Fall 2010, Graphic Design II: In this course we were asked to redesign an existent brand. I chose Clif Bar and their namesake energy bar. I decided to redirect the focus of the design to the busy older women who are mothers, businesswomen, and the like. Women who multi task and never stop on a daily basis. I wanted a beautiful clean look that was purely typographic.

Dining Room Before. The untreated windows made the room feel cold and since it is open to the living room, we wanted to bring in the same color scheme.
I didn't feel like the mustard background felt right, just didn't say 'whimsical' to me (I pulled it from the background of the original bird logo at the top). This blue/brown color palette seems to work much better, at least to me. Also added/changed a few other things like a roll over state for the image slider, home button, and a cart button. Slowly working it out.

My friend Kate asked me for some insight awhile back on her graphics and website. I felt as though the website didn't fully represent her as a business and brand.
For the redesign, I want to create a contemporary, elegant, clean and easily navigated website for her. I plan to incorporate simple color palette of white, black and maroon, and have the website be image dominant.
Any thoughts? Suggestions?

She wanted to use the diamonds from the wedding band and the engagement band. The engagement band has one .035 carat central stone, and 2 side stones of .1 ct. and 2 stones .05 ct.

To make this logo, I first had to look at the original. I thought about what the company was and where it came from, what they made, and how it made the customer feel. I had to make a web of ideas to sort out what were the best components that made swiss miss. I then created multiple sketches, then decided on this for a final sketch. I then used Adobe Illustrator to create this final design. I kept the colors of the logo very similar to the original, and also kept the mountains. I wanted to make sure that when people thought of “Swiss Miss” they thought of hot cocoa, which is why the logo is a mug. I wanted to make the design more playful, which is why I chose a sans serif font, and made them look like marshmallows floating in the cocoa.
