Redefined 4 seater ready for the summer beach trip. Only @ Prestige Imports

Happy Wednesday Flickr! This is a repair to an underexposed photo caused by a misfire of our off camera lighting. One side of the images was almost black and the other side was underexposed. But, I really loved Melissa's pose and with a little Photoshop "love" this is the end result. I like it but wanted to ask you - what do you think?

The beautiful interior of Cragside – a ground-breaking Victorian mansion ahead of its time where innovation meets elegance. This pioneering residence redefined modern living.

Let's redefine what a snowflake looks like. This particular crystal is outside the limits of what our imagination usually conjures when we think of snowflakes. You'll see plenty of odd features when you zoom in, but it's still a snowflake!

Column-style snowflakes don't usually get too large, but sometimes the conditions that favour their growth stay stable and can create larger specimens. This column has a very special additions however, in the form of additional columns growing perpendicular from the main one! How cool is that?

The "baby" columns appear to be growing in a similar way to frost. This crystal seems to differ from the examples I have for "multiple capped columns" which extrude plates from the sides, not additional columns. It does look similar to crystals photographed by Ken Libbrecht and others, but definitely carries a few questions I don't yet have answers to.

One interesting feature is the possible presence of multiple evaporation grooves. These are lines that run perpendicular to the length of the main column, barely visible along the edge. These occur when "crystal twins" are connected in a hexagonal column structure but appear rotated by a multiple of 60 degrees. They look fine, but this rotation creates weaker molecular bonds at the point of rotation which allows for some water to evaporate in this area - making a barely noticeable line or groove. I've seen these before quite commonly, but I've never seen more than one on the same crystal. Two can easily be seen, and there might even be a third. This snowflake is proving to be quite the enigma!

You might also notice the "antenna" growing out of the ends of some columns. These are pretty common on needle-type crystals where the ends will split and the corners will grow faster. The same happens with plate-type snowflakes when they grow branches; these antenna are "branches" for column crystals.

I'm sure there will be more surprises before winter is over, but this was a fun one to discover. :) Oh, and plenty of other fun mysteries explained in the Sky Crystals book: skycrystals.ca/

Lamborghini is redefining the super sports car with the cutting-edge technology in the new Sesto Elemento. Thanks to its advanced carbon-fiber design, the Sesto Elemento has

an overall curb weight of just 2,202 lbs (999 kilograms). Couple this with a V10 serving up an amazing 570 hp, and the Sesto Elemento is able to reach 62 mph in a blistering 2.5 seconds.

The name Sesto Elemento refers to the periodic table, and pays homage to the sixth element, carbon. Carbon-fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs) are an exciting part of Lamborghinis technological expertise, and are integral to the Sesto Elementos rapid-fire acceleration. The super sports car brand from SantAgata Bolognese has mastered the complete CFRP process across a range of technologies, from 3-D design through simulation, validation, production and testing.

The Sesto Elemento is finished in a new, matte-shimmer clear coating, so the CFRP structure can be seen throughout. Yet the

Sesto Elemento is not just black; during the final stage of production the carbon fiber parts receive a newly developed and patented coating. Nanotechnology makes it possible to add fine crystals with a red shimmer. Surfaces with this finish glow red to an outstanding effect.

With razor-sharp handling, massive braking power and voracious speed, the extremely lightweight Sesto Elemento creates a brand new dimension in super sports car driving.

Today the 24th January 2017 marks the first anniversary of the new look Riding redefined 36.

This time last year, which was a sleepy Sunday morning the very first new 36 deckers were already out on the route. 3624 was the first bus out on the Ripon section of the route. While 3627 worked the first journey to Leeds.

During the year many changes have been applied to the service, with some interesting additions to the fleet. Firstly the new neighbourhood departures from Bilton, Jennyfield and Starbeck were introduced, with an additional journey from the Jennyfield estate added. Fast trips into Leeds along Scott Hall Road were placed into the morning rush hour, by early September 2016, these were stopped because of major timing issues.

Olympic gold medallist Jack Laugher gained his name on 3616, with a golden 36 logo. As 2017 opened Transdev paid tribute to a long serving employee, Peter Smith. Who had passed away just before Christmas 2016, suddenly. 3615 was nominated as the vehicle to be name in Peter's memory.

And so with another set of timetable changes due in February 2017. The Riding Redefined vehicles can continue there second year in service.

got me thinking about what was going on in the world in 1929 - here's the wikithingy page - nothing much changes really does it?...

August

August 16 – The 1929 Palestine riots break out between Palestinians and Jews in Mandatory Palestine and continue until the end of the month. In total, 133 Jews and 116 Palestinians are killed.

August 20 – First transmissions of John Logie Baird's experimental 30-line television system by the British Broadcasting Corporation.[45]

August 23–24 – The 1929 Hebron massacre, in which 65–68 Jews are killed by Palestinians and the remaining Jews are forced to leave Hebron.

August 29 – The 1929 Safed massacre, in which 18–20 Jews are killed in Safed by Palestinian Arabs.

Been meaning to re-edit this for awhile now. Still one of my favorite shots and a milestone for me spent behind the lens.

The Gateway of India, located on the waterfront in Apollo Bunder area in South Mumbai, is a basalt arch 26 metres (85 ft) high. It was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay, prior to the Delhi Durbar, in December 1911.

The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower is a prestigious luxury five star hotel located next to the Gateway of India. Part of the Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces, this iconic 107-year old heritage building retains its stature as the flagship property of the group.

Did you know the hotel was oriented wrongly and the mistake was realised after the entire construction was over!?!?

The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower was one of the 4 hotels targeted by terrorists during the 2008 Mumbai attacks which led to the loss of 173 people and wounding at least 308.

At 'Art Deco Cars' exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of Art in January 2017, I saw the original car. Breathtaking - and posted that this should one day become a Lego build.

Being Pre-WWII month, now is the time.

The car appears small and tight - to create the model I knew that I would have to draw the curves down tight over the mechanical package. Like some of my best cars, I avoided an incoming architectural surrogate, and built it fresh from the ground up.

The following text from www.supercars.net explains these remarkable cars.

1937 Talbot-Lago T150C SS

Of all the cars available in in the art deco era, the T150C was almost always transformed into rolling sculpture. Most of the cars were bodied by Figoni et Falaschi into some of the most voluptuous shapes sometimes referred to as the ‘Goutte d’Eau’ or teardrop.

During its era, the teardrop, also known as the ‘Goutte d’Eau’, was one of the select few automobiles that both redefined automotive style and won top-level races. Having successfully combined racing function and elegant form, the Teardrop became trend setting and motivated many other French manufacturers to consider more streamlined design.

While all of the French coach builders contributed to the styling ‘renaissance’ of the thirties, none did so quite much as Italian-born Giuseppe Figoni. He teamed with businessman Ovidio Falaschi to create one of the most prolific and successful French design companies: Figoni et Falaschi.

The Teardrop was Figoni et Falaschi’s most coveted work. It was, in a sense, a revolt against the more functional cars from the twenties. Here was a design devoid of any straight lines, one decorated with sensual curves which advertised speed without even moving. This style was emphasized by the diminishing pontoon fenders, called ‘enveloppantes’ by Figoni, and a converging rear end that could be called a fastback.

Figoni’s flowing designs were first seen in 1935 and on the Delahaye 135 chassis. These were a direct response to the Mercedes-Benz 540 K Autobahnkurier launched a year earlier at the 1934 Frankfurt Motor Show. By 1937, the Talbot Teardrop became the ultimate expression of this streamlined era and made its seminal mark in Paris as well as the 1937 New York Auto Show.

Throughout production Figoni played with the design, creating some roadster versions and other variations on different chassis. Pourtout was commissioned to built at least two teardrop coupes which were different in detail from the Figoni body.

Forests have a completely different concept of death than we humans do. I suspect forests don't know death at all, for them it is all life. Nothing ever really dies in forests, but just continues on some new cycle of life, some new form of the same thing. I like that. I admit that hiking in forests makes me reconsider my own notions of life and death.

They (forests) also have such a presence to them. There are so many different forms of life there, from the birds and animals and bugs, to the plants, mosses, lichens and mushrooms. And then the trees. How I love the trees, whether they even notice me or not. You step into a forest and you are surrounded by all this, and therefore you step into a forest and you are never alone, not from the world anyway.

Anyway, thoughts reminiscent from the Hoh, image from the hike in to Falls Creek Falls on my last EN workshop. Heading out of town to the Palouse today for another.

And with that, I'm gone.

Redefining Sacred Space

Reflections on Leviticus

After worship one Sunday, I overheard a teenager recounting the latest scandal at her school. Another student reprimanded her, “Don’t gossip, you’re in church!” He certainly ended the conversation, but his words revealed an underlying view by which many Christians compartmentalize life—church is “holy,” everywhere else is “unholy.”

You do not have to read as far in the Old Testament to find Levitican rules about holiness and sacred space. The book is replete with them. God demands holiness from Israel, repeatedly commanding them to “be holy because I am holy” (Lev 11:44, 45; 19:2; 20:7, 26). But how do cleansing rituals for birthing practices and skin sores relate to holiness?

In ancient Israel, people, objects and spaces could be judged holy or common. The tabernacle, for example, was sacred because it was God’s dwelling place; therefore, the people of Israel would undergo extensive cleansing rituals before bringing their sacrifices to the priests. God’s command to be holy extended as far as appropriate foods (Lev 11, 17), treatment for infections (Lev 13:1–46) and sexual practices (Lev 18). Something as minor as mold or mildew found on fabric had to be brought to the priest (13:47–59). While these were not matters of moral concern, they were of great spiritual importance. The rituals for approaching God were a means of reminding Israel that God was not common.

The author of Leviticus did not assume that a person could simply follow these rules and be close to God. God established His relationship with His people before placing demands on them. Before Israel heard and obeyed (and disobeyed) the laws given in Leviticus, God repeatedly asserted that He was “the LORD, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God” (Lev 11:45; see also 19:36; 22:33). Israel was established again as God’s people at the exodus, and then they were given guidelines for how they were to live in relationship with Him. God even proclaims that He is the one who makes them holy, not adherence to the law (Lev 20:8, 23). So even in Leviticus, God bestows grace to a sinful and undeserving people. The law defines how they must live as God’s people—people set apart, like Him.

Jesus changed the rules, though. He entered creation, became the ultimate sacrifice and opened up a way—the only way—for humanity to encounter God. Those with skin diseases came to Jesus for healing and restoration into society. Paul preached that Jesus made all foods and people clean, that circumcision of the heart was the true circumcision. The New Testament bears witness that God makes His people holy through Jesus Christ.

So how do we live as people who have been made holy through Christ? As God’s people, we are given guidelines throughout Scripture for how to treat others, how to use our words, and how to control our thoughts. Yet we do not do this on our own. God’s Spirit now dwells in us—we are His temple (2 Cor 6:16). And He performs this work in us so that we may live as disciples at all times and in all places.

Over time, the relationship changes us, and we behave differently. But more important, Jesus transforms us into new creatures who reflect His holiness—no matter where we are.

redefining home

so "home" is something I write about often, but it's not a concept I've ever really tried to photograph. I've been brainstorming ideas for my final project for the black and white class I'm in, and I considered trying to visually depict my various definitions of home. exploring led me to discover some recycled art projects in the back of an installation room and I took some self portraits there for the first time in months.

I guess the way I feel could be described as "perpetually displaced." I've lost my physical sense of home time and time again and I've been repeatedly forced to recreate a place for myself that I can comfortably live in and call mine. my life has been characterized by this constant redefinition and trying to fit into unexpected spaces and situations.

"redefining home" isn't always ideal, nor is it often pretty; a lot of the time, it's uncomfortable and makes me feel vulnerable. but what I have come to realize is that "home" is, at its root, an idea. it's something I carry with me wherever I go.
