I had myself dropped off at Blagnac. Literally, the village, not the airport. On purpose, to see the village. I walked the remaining 5 km to the airport.

A covered well in the courtyard of the High Castle in Malbork, crowned with a sculpture of a pelican feeding chicks with its own blood, which was the symbol of the order.

The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork, the largest Gothic castle complex in the world, is a 13th-century Teutonic castle and fortress located near the town of Malbork on the river Nogat in Poland. It was originally constructed by the Teutonic Knights, a German Catholic religious order of crusaders, in a form of an Ordensburg fortress. The Order named it Marienburg in honour of Mary, mother of Jesus. In 1457, during the Thirteen Years’ War, it was sold by the Bohemian mercenaries to King Casimir IV of Poland in lieu of indemnities and it since served as one of the several Polish royal residences and the seat of Polish offices and institutions, interrupted by several years of Swedish occupation, and fulfilling this function until the First Partition of Poland in 1772. From then on the castle was under German rule for over 170 years until 1945. The castle is a classic example of a medieval fortress and, on its completion in 1406, was the world's largest brick castle. UNESCO designated the "Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork" and the Malbork Castle Museum a World Heritage Site in December 1997.

Opened about 14 miles southeast of Big Valley by Mary Mehaffie. On 18 August 1949, it was changed to the Model School half a mile north of Hackett. In 1950, the school was moved to 1 ½ miles east of Jakes’ Butte. In 1958, the building was sold to Mr. A Warner, Big Valley.

A one room school from the past, built to meet the needs of the community..... Notice the “hitching post” in the foreground.

As seen here on 25 May 2012 it is now used or has been used to store grain.

Surprised it has the strength to hold that kind of weight and stress after 100 years.

Checking Google Maps, the school is no longer standing, having been replaced by several metal grain bins. All that is left is a small marker on a post identifying where the school used to be.

Rode Hall , near Congleton , Cheshire, England

The first hall a black and white half timbered building, probably similar in style to the nearby Little Moreton Hall was replaced by smaller building to the right, completed in 1708 . The larger square Hall to the left was completed in 1752.

Notice the bricked in windows, presumably an effect of the various window taxes brought in after 1696, this isn't confirmed by the web site. A cattle disease reduced the estates income drastically in 1866 and I wondered if this was one of the results, but of course the Wnndow Tax laws had been repealed in 1851. So presumably they were bricked up on one of the large increases in the century beforehand.

The house has extensive gardens leading down to a lake . They have been open to the public since the 1980's on Wednesdays and Bank Holidays , and for their Bluebell Walks in May. A beautiful place to visit .

The Cedar Garden at Tredegar House is lined with flowers at the end of summer... the Orangery and its garden are just over the wall.

The bottom lock at Braunston is part of the Braunston Lock Flight, a series of six locks on the Grand Union Canal in Braunston, Northamptonshire. These locks help boats navigate a 35-foot rise in elevation as they move between the lower and upper sections of the canal. The bottom lock is the first lock encountered when heading uphill toward Braunston Tunnel. It’s a busy spot, especially during summer, as Braunston is a major junction where the Grand Union and Oxford Canals meet. The lock is surrounded by charming countryside, making it a favourite among boaters and walkers.

Romanesque church in Tum, seen from close :)

The Collegiate Church of St. Mary and St. Alexius is an Romanesque church located in the village of Tum near Łęczyca, in central Poland. It was constructed out of granite blocks and sandstone in the mid-12th century. It has the form of an aisled basilica with galleries, a twin-tower west façade, and two apses (west and east). It was reconstructed in the 15th, 18th and mid-20th centuries; during the latest reconstruction the church returned to its simpler Romanesque form and round turrets at the east were added. The main (north) portal dates back to the first half of 12th century. In 2022, the church was designated an official Polish Historic Monument.

Kolegiata romańska w Tumie z bliższej odległości :)

Kolegiata Najświętszej Marii Panny i św. Aleksego w Tumie, niedaleko Łęczycy, to romański kościół wzniesiony w pobliżu dawnej lokalizacji wczesnośredniowiecznego grodu. Został zbudowany z granitowych bloków i piaskowca w połowie XII wieku. Został przebudowany w XV, XVIII i połowie XX wieku. Podczas ostatniej przebudowy kościół powrócił do swojej pierwotnej, romańskiej formy, wzbogaconej o okrągłe wieżyczki od strony wschodniej. Główny (północny) portal pochodzi z pierwszej połowy XII wieku. W 2022 roku kościół został oficjalnie uznany za Pomnik Historii.

A red brick silo still stands at the Ritter Farm Park near Lakeville, Minnesota.

This is actually the rear of the 19th century Grade II listed building, which backs on to the Great Ouse river.

It was built as a court house, but its use as a judicial building has diminished over the years, as the needs of the county changed, but is still owned by the county council.

Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building.

A crisp morning view of the historic Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station. The iconic red-brick architecture, originally designed by Kingo Tatsuno and completed in 1914, stands in striking contrast against the modern glass towers of the Chiyoda business district. This facade remains one of Japan’s most recognizable landmarks and a symbol of the city's resilience and restoration.

------

Northern Quarter, Manchester.

Another reason to love this City.

An empty plot in Chiayi's old district — waiting to be sold, or rebuilt. Around it, the city keeps growing the way it always has: new corrugated panels stacked onto old brick, new walls extending old houses, generation after generation of repair. The vacant lot is not a void. It's a pause between layers.

Red brick walls festooned with a green climbing vine. They are on either side of the red brick steps leading up to the entrance of the Barr Smith Library.

Back in my uni days, I spent a lot of time in there pretending to study but really spending quiet but fun times with my friends as we met up between lectures. It feels like several lifetimes ago, and the university has undergone so many changes since.
