At the end of the day we have what we have, and this should be what satisfies us. Beyond that, the prize may not be what we need. Only what we want.

The small lighthouse in Ustka, Poland :)

The lighthouse is an obligatory part of every stroll around Ustka’s harbour. This small structure rises close by the harbour entrance, at the end of the promenade. It was built in 1892 as a tower near the pilot station building due to the great difficulty of navigation at the harbour entrance in Ustka in poor weather conditions. The lighthouse is 22.3 m high and has a range of 18 nautical miles.

Ustka is a town in the Middle Pomerania region of northwestern Poland. The first settlers arrived at Ustka as early as the 9th century, and established a fishing settlement with the original name of Ujść. The area at the mouth of the river Słupia was ceded to the town of Słupsk in 1337 with the purpose of building a fishing harbour and a commercial port there to the Baltic Sea. The town was given to Brandenburg-Prussia as part of the Duchy of Pomerania after the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. On August 1, 1945, the city became part of Poland with the agreement at the Potsdam Conference.

Ustka is a popular tourist destination and a fishing port on the south coasts of the Baltic. For a number of years, following the political changes in Poland, the town has won a string of local awards for the best summer place in the country. The most important monuments in the town: a lighthouse built in 1892, Main Post Office from 1875 and church from 1882.

Latarnia morska w Ustce :)

Fall in Union Park in the South End of Boston. Shot with Sony a6000 & Sigma 19mm lens, and processed in Lightroom. I posted a version of this photo awhile ago, but in this one I have emphasized more the bright colors and the contrast between the red brick and yellow leaves. You can see both versions side by side in my post processing comparisons album.

The Hurstbourne Viaduct, also known as the "Nine Arches," is a historic red brick railway bridge between Whitchurch and Andover in Hampshire, England, built by the London & South Western Railway (LSWR) in 1854 over the River Swift (or Bourne), designed by Joseph Locke for the West of England Main Line, offering scenic views and still used by modern trains today, featuring nine impressive arches and conveniently accessible from a public road.

Block Island Southeast Light, located on Mohegan Bluffs on the southeastern corner of Block Island, dates back to 1875. In 1990, the Coast Guard deactivated the light and replaced it with a nearby steel tower. Because of ongoing erosion of the bluffs, in 1993 the entire 2,000 ton structure was moved about 300 feet back from the cliffs. It was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1997.

A covered well in the courtyard of the High Castle in Malbork, crowned with a sculpture of a pelican feeding chicks with its own blood, which was the symbol of the order.

The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork, the largest Gothic castle complex in the world, is a 13th-century Teutonic castle and fortress located near the town of Malbork on the river Nogat in Poland. It was originally constructed by the Teutonic Knights, a German Catholic religious order of crusaders, in a form of an Ordensburg fortress. The Order named it Marienburg in honour of Mary, mother of Jesus. In 1457, during the Thirteen Years’ War, it was sold by the Bohemian mercenaries to King Casimir IV of Poland in lieu of indemnities and it since served as one of the several Polish royal residences and the seat of Polish offices and institutions, interrupted by several years of Swedish occupation, and fulfilling this function until the First Partition of Poland in 1772. From then on the castle was under German rule for over 170 years until 1945. The castle is a classic example of a medieval fortress and, on its completion in 1406, was the world's largest brick castle. UNESCO designated the "Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork" and the Malbork Castle Museum a World Heritage Site in December 1997.

Opened about 14 miles southeast of Big Valley by Mary Mehaffie. On 18 August 1949, it was changed to the Model School half a mile north of Hackett. In 1950, the school was moved to 1 ½ miles east of Jakes’ Butte. In 1958, the building was sold to Mr. A Warner, Big Valley.

A one room school from the past, built to meet the needs of the community..... Notice the “hitching post” in the foreground.

As seen here on 25 May 2012 it is now used or has been used to store grain.

Surprised it has the strength to hold that kind of weight and stress after 100 years.

Checking Google Maps, the school is no longer standing, having been replaced by several metal grain bins. All that is left is a small marker on a post identifying where the school used to be.

Budapest is filled with beautiful building from various time periods, many have been renovated and reconstructed because of damages from WWII.

This is a church in Buda across from the Parliament.

Fitzwilliam Street

Originally a water-powered mill, this building milled corn through to the 1980s, when it ceased its activities. It is now unused that one can tell, waiting for the next step in its life.

A quick search suggests it has been around since at least the 1850s (thanks to the National Library of Scotland map archives)

Would hate to see it demolished.
