A covered well in the courtyard of the High Castle in Malbork, crowned with a sculpture of a pelican feeding chicks with its own blood, which was the symbol of the order.

The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork, the largest Gothic castle complex in the world, is a 13th-century Teutonic castle and fortress located near the town of Malbork on the river Nogat in Poland. It was originally constructed by the Teutonic Knights, a German Catholic religious order of crusaders, in a form of an Ordensburg fortress. The Order named it Marienburg in honour of Mary, mother of Jesus. In 1457, during the Thirteen Years’ War, it was sold by the Bohemian mercenaries to King Casimir IV of Poland in lieu of indemnities and it since served as one of the several Polish royal residences and the seat of Polish offices and institutions, interrupted by several years of Swedish occupation, and fulfilling this function until the First Partition of Poland in 1772. From then on the castle was under German rule for over 170 years until 1945. The castle is a classic example of a medieval fortress and, on its completion in 1406, was the world's largest brick castle. UNESCO designated the "Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork" and the Malbork Castle Museum a World Heritage Site in December 1997.

A Grade I listed building -

"From Historic England: Built 1495 by Archdeacon Pykenham a former rector. Very fine example of late C15 brickwork. It was originally the gatehouse to the Archdeacon's house (demolished early C19). It is of red brick with black diapering"

Hadleigh has many claims to English historical importance.

According to wikipedia, Wat Tyler, before leading the peasants' revolt, lived in the town for 20 years working as a tiler.

It is another place to visit for well preserved older buildings, as it was another town that grew from its involvement in the wool and weaving industries during medieval times.

At the end of the day we have what we have, and this should be what satisfies us. Beyond that, the prize may not be what we need. Only what we want.

Bears on the street (1 of 2) - adventure for kids taking neighbourhood exercise in lockdown - and such a good idea that they've persisted. :-)

Fall in Union Park in the South End of Boston. Shot with Sony a6000 & Sigma 19mm lens, and processed in Lightroom. I posted a version of this photo awhile ago, but in this one I have emphasized more the bright colors and the contrast between the red brick and yellow leaves. You can see both versions side by side in my post processing comparisons album.

A beautiful restaurant window, depicting the history of this Italian restaurant in Montreals' Little Italy district! Trust me it was beautiful inside & out, the food was delicious too!

Originally a water-powered mill, this building milled corn through to the 1980s, when it ceased its activities. It is now unused that one can tell, waiting for the next step in its life.

A quick search suggests it has been around since at least the 1850s (thanks to the National Library of Scotland map archives)

Would hate to see it demolished.

Block Island Southeast Light, located on Mohegan Bluffs on the southeastern corner of Block Island, dates back to 1875. In 1990, the Coast Guard deactivated the light and replaced it with a nearby steel tower. Because of ongoing erosion of the bluffs, in 1993 the entire 2,000 ton structure was moved about 300 feet back from the cliffs. It was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1997.

I had myself dropped off at Blagnac. Literally, the village, not the airport. On purpose, to see the village. I walked the remaining 5 km to the airport.

I usually try a few images for macro Monday's on Monday am, with not much planning, Here's my second choice

A small round shed surrounded by fall colors at Ritter Farm Park near Lakeville, Minnesota.

The bottom lock at Braunston is part of the Braunston Lock Flight, a series of six locks on the Grand Union Canal in Braunston, Northamptonshire. These locks help boats navigate a 35-foot rise in elevation as they move between the lower and upper sections of the canal. The bottom lock is the first lock encountered when heading uphill toward Braunston Tunnel. It’s a busy spot, especially during summer, as Braunston is a major junction where the Grand Union and Oxford Canals meet. The lock is surrounded by charming countryside, making it a favourite among boaters and walkers.

Rode Hall , near Congleton , Cheshire, England

The first hall a black and white half timbered building, probably similar in style to the nearby Little Moreton Hall was replaced by smaller building to the right, completed in 1708 . The larger square Hall to the left was completed in 1752.

(Source:www.rodehall.co.uk/the-house )

Notice the bricked in windows, presumably an effect of the various window taxes brought in after 1696, this isn't confirmed by the web site. A cattle disease reduced the estates income drastically in 1866 and I wondered if this was one of the results, but of course the Wnndow Tax laws had been repealed in 1851. So presumably they were bricked up on one of the large increases in the century beforehand.

The house has extensive gardens leading down to a lake . They have been open to the public since the 1980's on Wednesdays and Bank Holidays , and for their Bluebell Walks in May. A beautiful place to visit .

This historical piece of Denver is long gone now. One day it's there and then when it goes away, you don't really notice that it's gone....
