"The BBC has whitewashed a genocide There is nothing subtle about this. Overt genocidal language. Not covered by the BBC either. Lies by omission are still lies. The BBC should have made clear what Israel’s leaders have explicitly said are their actual motives over and over again. They did not do so, and in doing, the BBC whitewashed a genocide." - substack.com/@owenjonesjourno/note/p-171451055?r=3qbxbp&a... ▪️▪️▪️ South Croxton, Swydd Caerlŷr/ Leicestershire

The Toronto Project:

Hi Flickr, I have been busy finishing my degree, and now I'm done!! I have finally completed my bachelor's in biology and chemistry. I just returned from a trip to Toronto. I have taken a fascination with the city in many ways and I had a list of things to do and experience there. In my three full days of staying there and shooting I experienced a lot and took 4927 photos, I walked dozons of kilometers, and visited many interesting areas. Some of the highlights include; the PATH system, Hockey Hall of Fame, Union Station, all of the major financial building complexes, CN Tower, Old City Hall, Osgoode Hall, Art Gallery of Ontario, Kensington Market, Chinatown, Sunnybrook Park, Cabbagetown, Necropolis, Euclid Hall, Gooderham Houses, Queen's Park Legislative Buildings, All of the old colleges of the University of Toronto, Royal Conservatory of Music, Annex style houses, Yorkville Houses and firehall, Casa Loma, Spadina Museum, the Royal Ontario Museum, Allen Gardens, Mackenzie House, St Michael's Church, Metropolitan United Church, Flatiron Building, St Lawrence Market, Toronto's first post office, St. Lawrence Hall, Sculpture Garden, St. James Church, Gooderham and Worts Distillary, Cherry Street Hotel, and Little Trinity Church and the surrounding neighborhood of Corktown.

This is just an image of a large series that I'm doing. The primary goal of this project is to document the diverse types of architecture that one can find in Toronto. Much of it has a British influence or American such as Richardsonian Romanesque when it comes to older buildings. But since Toronto is also a modern alpha global city and a global financial city it has a diverse and impressive amount of modern skyscrapers and post modern architecture. Its diversity is also shown in its people in that atleast 50% of the people living in Toronto weren't even born in Canada, making Toronto the world's most ethnically diverse city. It is extremely colourful and every corner has a new surprise. One can pass down the same street multiple times and stil find surprises like little shops you didn't even notice. I can't wait to return, but I need work in order to get down there again.

Thank you so much for your views, comments and faves! They are encouraging as I continue on my photographic journey.

I love visiting campus when I can as it is so photogenic. I look for new pictures of familiar structures such as the Chamberlain Clock Tower known affectionately as Old Joe.

In June we visited friends, who live in Łódź and we went for a walk around the city with them. On the photo you can see the place called Monopolis :)

Former Vodka Monopoly Plant, which was established at the end of the 19th century, transformed now into an office, entertainment and cultural center called Monopolis. Today, Monopolis combines various areas of activity in an unusual way. Guests will easily find restaurants with Italian, Japanese or Mediterranean cuisine or cafes with freshly baked bread, best quality desserts and aromatic coffee. For theater and art lovers, Monopolis offers to admire unique paintings, sculptures, photographs or posters.

Łódź is the third largest city in Poland and a former industrial centre. Located in the central part of the country, it is the capital of Łódź Voivodeship. Łódź was once a small settlement that first appeared in 14th-century records. It was granted town rights in 1423 by Polish King Władysław II Jagiełło and it remained a private town of the Kuyavian bishops and clergy until the late 18th century. The Second Industrial Revolution brought rapid growth in textile manufacturing and in population owing to the inflow of migrants, notably Germans and Jews. Following the end of the Second World War, Łódź informally and temporarily took over the functions of Poland's capital, and most of the government and country administration resided in the city prior to Warsaw's reconstruction. On 8 March 1948, the National Film School was opened, later becoming Poland's primary academy of drama and cinema.

Do końca XVII w. Łódź rozwijała się jako małe miasteczko rolnicze, będące własnością biskupstwa włocławskiego. W 1820 rząd Królestwa Polskiego włączył Łódź do grona osad przemysłowych w kalisko-mazowieckim okręgu przemysłowym i przeznaczył jej rolę ośrodka tkackiego i sukienniczego.

Uspenski Cathedral is an Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Helsinki, Finland, and main cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Finland, dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos (the Virgin Mary). Its name comes from the Old Church Slavonic word uspenie, which denotes the Dormition. Designed by the Russian architect Aleksey Gornostayev (1808–1862). The cathedral was built after his death in 1862–1868.

The crypt chapel of the cathedral is named after the holy Alexander Hotovitzky, who served as vicar of the Orthodox parish of Helsinki 1914–1917.

The Cathedral is set upon a hillside on the Katajanokka peninsula overlooking the city. On the back of the cathedral, there is a plaque commemorating Russian Emperor Alexander II, who was the sovereign of the Grand Duchy of Finland during the cathedral's construction. Main cathedral of the Finnish Orthodox Church in the diocese of Helsinki, Uspenski Cathedral is claimed to be the largest orthodox church in Western Europe.

For Window Wednesdays

These windows are at the front of The Sun Hotel in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. I previously posted a photo of the window at the rear of the hotel (in comments). The Sun dates back to the 16th century when it was a coaching inn. The rear is part of an extension added later. HWW

When I first saw this, I thought that the vine was the intruder, but after thinking about it, maybe man is. The earth doesn't need us, but we need the earth, it was here before and will likely be here after us.

Standing silently at the heart of the courtyard, the brick tower watches over time, weather, and the quiet lives within.

The estate of houses, built in the second half of the 19th century for workers at the Żyrardów Linen Factory. It was planned on the basis of terraced housing and regular quarters with residential houses made of unrendered brick. The oldest date back to 1867. The houses still feature characteristic wooden outbuildings with galleries and stairs for residents of these brick buildings.

Żyrardów - small town in Central Poland, located in the Mazovia region. It owes its unique atmosphere to the characteristic architecture of an industrial town. The original spatial layout of the community, which grew around a manufacturing plant in the mid-19th century, has been preserved to the present day. The historic center of Żyrardów (mostly buildings from red bricks) is the only industrial architecture complex from the turn of the 20th c. in Europe that has been preserved to modern times in full. The old settlement covers a 76-ha area in the central part of the town. Diversified architectural forms and styles characterize the city, which has resulted from the multi-cultural character of Żyrardów. The flax trade gave the town its origins. A factory manufacturing flax that was one of the largest and modern factories in Europe was established there in 1829. Karol Dittrich and Karol Hielle, two industrialists from Germany, founded the plant. The town derives its name from the first technical director of the plant, Philip de Girard who, among others, invented a mechanical flax-spinning machine.

Był on m.in. wynalazcą maszyny do mechanicznego przędzenia lnu.

As a footnote, for anyone who might be out there this weekend, I was approached a couple of days ago by the University of Sheffield in conjunction with Kodak, wanting to use my photostream as part of a research project into the use of tags as part of the photo-sharing process. Just for fun, therefore, please feel free to add your own tags at any time. The more and the weirder the merrier. Let's muck up their entire project, just for the sake of it..! Or is that childish? Who cares?

It is a long time since this lovely dark redbrick building on Donegall Street in Belfast has been a school—it's currently the Roman Catholic chaplaincy for the new campus of the University of Ulster next door—but the signs are still up.

Remarkably, this is Belfast's last surviving neo-Gothic building. It was built in 1828 to the designs of the Newry architect, Timothy Hevey, and was the first Catholic school to be built in Belfast. The land was donated by the 2nd Marquess of Donegall, and had been the town dump until the school was built.

The go-ahead boomtown that was Victorian Belfast did not treasure the buildings that had come before, so this is, remarkably, one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city, full stop.

To its left is the enormous Gothic mass of St Patrick's Church, completed in 1877.

A stately red-brick city hall building stands prominently at the corner of an intersection, framed by the lush green leaves of an overhanging tree. The architecture conveys a sense of authority and classical design, with large white columns flanking the entrance and the words "CITY HALL" engraved above the doors.
