One of the resident pair. This is the mate of the hawk in the adjacent pic.
Something happened this afternoon that involved these hawks, my neighbor's cat, and a baby squirrel. I'll add a story when I have more time.
As we drove home from blueberry picking I saw this hawk perched on a sign. These photos are taken from through the rolled down car windows and then from outside the car. The hawk had no fear of us and let me get within 20 feet. The backlight from sunset was extremely strong. At the junction of Rt 100 and 14, Newport Center, Vermont.
A Red-tailed Hawk feeds on its prey.
In the field, I thought it was a squirrel. On my computer, it looked more like pigeon in the first images. But as I look at this later image, it seems the prey has a long neck and a "hairy tail"? I have no idea what it is.
The hawk enjoyed it though.
Haven't seen many of these this summer. It was nice of this one to give me this flight shot!
