One day old eyass looks toward camera while Two day old sibling gets feed

It was Hawks and Doves day in the neighborhood today! I haven't had any raptors sit for me in some time now, so I was was pleased to find two of my favorites!

Lakewood, 7-22-11.

I am pretty sure this is a red tailed hawk, resting on the golf course with what is left of a bird he took down. I took this on the dog walk. I'm glad we did not walk earlier. I know hawks gotta eat but I prefer not to witness the carnage.

Not quite sure if these two were performing their mating ritual as I did not actually see them touch but they made quite a display.

This is one of my absolute favorite raptors that we have here in the Southeast.

I was returning home from doing my first set of shots for 52 weeks when we saw this Red-Tailed Hawk sitting on the guard rail. Of course all I had with me was the 18-55 zoom lens. When will I learn to keep the 400mm with me AT ALL TIMES??? But the hawk was very determined to continue hunting and although she watched me, she allowed me to approach quite near and get a few nice shots. Of course, when I went back with the long lens she was gone.

Saw this Red-Tailed Hawk jump off a power line tower on to something in the grass. I think that it was a mouse or something else.

So I had just finished getting shots of a wider variety of water fowl than I find at the pond closest to my home. I was headed to the grocery store before going home. The sun was just about gone, but still enough light to get something big, like a Red-tailed Hawk for instance. I figured that if I should find one in a place that's easy to pull over safely...and there it was!!! And a turn off to a little used side road to boot! Actually, there were two! The other was closer to the ground, below this one! Didn't get any worthwhile shots of it. This one though, favored me with this nice flight shot!
