I photographed this young red tail by holding my scope, tripod and camera in my lap while sitting in my car. Not perfect resolution on the photo, but the best I could do without scaring the bird off.
Eat your heart out! The Red-tailed hawk gets to the heart of its rat meal. Note the unique spot on the back of the hawk's head and the brown spotted bellie-band.
Attempt to rescue the noisy original image (ISO1600) by applying the Orton Effect - also blurred the background leaves that were too distracting otherwise.
Caught out the window in the lineup to the Port Mann Bridge. Birding in stop and go traffic (no I was not driving)...
Not exactly a great shot but I love the expression....
A Red-tailed Hawk comes sailing down the road almost at eye level, and then wheels overhead, giving me a chance to get my camera set and shooting.
As we drove home from blueberry picking I saw this hawk perched on a sign. These photos are taken from through the rolled down car windows and then from outside the car. The hawk had no fear of us and let me get within 20 feet. The backlight from sunset was extremely strong. At the junction of Rt 100 and 14, Newport Center, Vermont.
