Attempt to rescue the noisy original image (ISO1600) by applying the Orton Effect - also blurred the background leaves that were too distracting otherwise.
Caught out the window in the lineup to the Port Mann Bridge. Birding in stop and go traffic (no I was not driving)...
Not exactly a great shot but I love the expression....
A Red-tailed Hawk comes sailing down the road almost at eye level, and then wheels overhead, giving me a chance to get my camera set and shooting.
As we drove home from blueberry picking I saw this hawk perched on a sign. These photos are taken from through the rolled down car windows and then from outside the car. The hawk had no fear of us and let me get within 20 feet. The backlight from sunset was extremely strong. At the junction of Rt 100 and 14, Newport Center, Vermont.
Buteo jamaicensis
These are the best photos of the hawk that was originally backlit on the road sign. I got too close and he flew off to this phone wire. He allowed me to get pretty close again.
sitting out in my front yard, right outside the living room, this red-tailed hawk seems to be ancient or ill. either way, it's suffering from some eye ailment that's rendered it nearly blind. it could hear me just fine, but as i walked closer to it, you could tell it was relying on a lot more than its raptor sense of sight.
