Redneck is a slang term used to designate, originally, Breton peasants or people of Breton origin. This term is mostly used in a pejorative way to describe the stereotype of a simple country man and / or boorish in order to make fun of it.
The author, Jean Rohou tells about his life in Bretagne (France) in the 20th century.

I met these two guys in the parking lot of the local Walmart here in Martinsburg West Virginia. We got to talking and the younger of the two wanted me to photograph "his" truck as he was intrigued by my setting up to photograph some big rigs also parked nearby.
It was the dude on the right that suggested the title, btw!
