For the first time today in the daylight two of the little foxes showed up, it was rainy and nasty out but I think the photos aren't too bad.
I hope everyone isn't getting sick of seeing the little fox babies!!!! I am loving watching them!

I took the day off today to take photos, to break free myself a bit...
This and the previous photo show what I think are the two kits that droopy eared mom had last year. They were in the same location that I'd seen them before with mom, but mom wasn't with them today.
I found droopy ear around the corner from the one year old foxes marking her territory and she headed back in to the woods. I'd seen droopy ear earlier in the year (a week or two ago) and she was in the same area and did the same thing (marked, sniffed, and left back in to the woods). I was really hoping to see her mating again this year, like I had last year... but I didn't. It was 367 days ago that they mated and I was playing the calendar to try to repeat the experience. From what I saw of her behavior today, I think she might still be on the prowl for Mr. Right. And as for last year's Mr. Right I don't think I've seen him this year, unless the scar on his nose healed and then I'd not have a mark to use to identify him.
The other day I was listening to this podcast (Ted.com) and a list of what I guess were the speaker's criteria for success struck me, since I think they apply to my photography efforts:
1) Learn from everyone!
2) Follow no one!
3) Watch for patterns!
4) ...and work like hell!
Another video which we post more for the audio rather than video. Two Hedgehogs meet under our shed and then the snuffling happens, turn up the volume 😲 not too much though

The mother dropped this pair of redfoxes in my roadside culvert and they stayed there for several months. If you look behind this one you can see the others eyes.

The polar bear makes only a brief appearance, preferring to remain in a cave, out of sight. Must be tough not having snow and ice around. The enclosure is actually home to two polar bears, Ahpun and Lyutyik, and a webcam monitors their activity (or inactivity) at: alaskazoo.org/live-polar-bear-camera
At 8000', early April is almost too early for a fox litter to be this old (5-6 weeks). Generally, I do not see fox kits until the end of April or the first of May. But these foxes are doing great, and from a friend's 2nd story bathroom window, we enjoyed a weekend of fox-watching and photographing! Father Fox is a beautiful Silver Fox (black phase of the Red Fox), and Mother seems to be something of a Cross Fox, with a rather dark face. Between them there are two reds, a silver (the black baby pictured here) and two cross-foxes. The leaping baby is a typical cross fox, with black shoulders, back, and stripe down the head. They are very interestingly colored. Despite being very early, they have done fine during two spring snows, and lots of temperature fluctuations. So much fun to watch!!
