actually taken in early spring right after she had her cubs and was enjoying her first time away from the den, rolling around the grass like a little maniac 😉 but I thought this fit the lazy day I've been having quite well... 😄
After stepping out of the front door I stayed by the door frame and never advanced in the direction of this red fox. Eventually he came closer trying to see what I was doing as I was in the shade.
This interaction only happens when they determine you are not a threat. Fox couple and eight kits, what a treat.
Snow was promised in the South-east which meant a chance of getting a good shot of this big boy.
I knew where he would be so all I needed was for the weather forecast to be right.
The fox arrived right on cue. Unfortunately, the snow didn't, at least not as nuch as I had hoped.
Red Fox
The Red Fox, Vulpes vulpes, is the largest of the true foxes and the most abundant wild member of the Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere from the Arctic Circle to North Africa, North America and Eurasia. It is listed as least concern by the IUCN. Its range has increased alongside human expansion, having been introduced to Australia, where it is considered harmful to native mammals and bird populations. Due to its presence in Australia, it is included among the list of the "world's 100 worst invasive species".

As the sun melts into the horizon, a lone fox walks in quiet silhouette. Its fur, kissed by the fading light, glows at the edges—like silver lining traced by fire. A whisper of wildness, a moment of magic, nature’s own masterpiece painted in twilight.
I've had Voles in my yard for years and finally last year they were gone. I never got to see them just the furrows they ate in the grass and the hole at the end. This image was intentionally left large so you might zoom in on the vole in this Red Fox's mouth.
This is quite the pretty vixen sitting just beyond this snowbank in Anchorage.

Occasionally we see a fox in our neighborhood. On this day it laid down in the sun by the storm drain. When it saw me with the big lens it got up.
