Looking close... on Friday theme Red
[My little tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing :)]
The title 'red flower' may be updated if someone can tell me what this flower is! We bought a hanging basket from B&Q (Yeah, cheating!) last month but I can't identify every flower. There are some violas and a euonymus but there is no label to tell us what everything is! It could be nemesia (but I have amnesia!!)
A red squirrel collects mushrooms for later consumption. The main thing they collect are spruce cones that they make large middens (piles) of cones to eat all winter long. However, they've figured out you can't bury mushrooms on the ground as they'll rot. So, they hang them in trees to dry for latter consumption. I tried to follow this guy, but I think he was wise to me and kept running until he outran me before going to his sky midden.
Watching and photographing this set was likely the highlight of the Summer, seen and photographed in the Ottawa area starting in mid June and into July when the chicks fledged. I made several visits to the location and kept it under wraps following the request of a a friend that shared them with me. His concern was that the nest would be compromised and the chicks jeopardized....the nesting site was just a few meters in a forest easily seen from a roadway...the day the chicks fledged I was there and missed the shot of the first chick leaving the nest by a few seconds...the adults would alternate between taking food into the nest cavity and hunting for food...usually as one arrived, the other would make room in the nest and fly away to scrounge more food...when they left the nest hole they exited like little bullets and it was a challenge to capture successful y...the lighting was tricky and I didnt want to push the ISO too high...and to "freeze" the flight it wasnt quite enough shutter speed to manage it well...
We tried to keep it quiet because this species in Ontario is considered " at risk" and any nesting opportunity is a positive chance to add to the successful rebound of this species in Ontario..Their habitat sadly is being reduced by forever ongoing development in our province...they're STUNNING looking birds and I hope you all enjoy these images!!!
The red-headed woodpecker is a mid-sized woodpecker found in temperate North America. Its breeding habitat is open country across southern Canada and the east-central United States.
Not a real productive morning, I could hear a lot of birds but I had trouble IDing them and was not able to see many. One of those days.
The red-tailed hawk is a bird of prey that breeds throughout most of North America, from the interior of Alaska and northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies. It is one of the most common members within the genus of Buteo in North America or worldwide.

Here is a small section of a shiny red pomegranate that I picked from a tree in my garden. This section is about 2 inches or 5 centimeters across.

I went on my walk on Thanksgiving morning and everything looked pretty after the light snow we'd gotten on the previous day. I saw the hawk sitting on a branch fairly close to me, but as I got closer he got nervous and took off. I got this shot just as he lifted off the branch. Wildwood Park, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Red kite
The red kite, also known as the red kite, the golden harrier or the royal harrier, is a bird of prey-sized bird of prey from the family of the hawk-like species. In contrast to the closely related, slightly smaller black kite, the spread of the red kite is essentially limited to Europe.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment and fave my images. Enjoy the day.
A quartet of red and silver GEs pop out of what I remember to be Tunnel 3 on SPs line through the Tehachapi Mountains. As my memory isn't the best feel free to offer a correction. 3.00
Red bellied woodpeckers are a rare sight in Ontario. They are expanding their range north. This male was seen in High Park,Toronto.
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
I was happy to find this quite pristine Red Admiral. According to "Alberta Butterflies" they have a wide range in Alberta but are seldom abundant. My last sighting was four years ago. Some of these migrate while others hibernate and appear early in the spring.

If crayons exploded and learned how to tweet,
You’d get this absurdist with bright red feet.
This male Red-legged Honeycreeper was photographed in Costa Rica, showing off his electric blue body, velvet black mask, and those unmistakable crimson legs. He looks less like a bird and more like a rogue highlighter with an attitude. Just another reminder that nature has a sense of humor—and a very colorful palette.
A striking medium-sized woodpecker native to eastern forests. Despite its name, the reddish tint on its belly is faint and often difficult to see. Known for its loud calls and drumming on tree trunks, it feeds on insects, seeds, and fruit. Red-bellied woodpeckers are agile climbers and frequently visit bird feeders; this one out in the Cross Timbers came to some broadcast sunflower seeds after he saw other birds feeding.
Our beautiful world, pass it on.
I'm afraid the heat has kept me away from Sussex Prairies for the last few days, but the temperature finally dropped today, to my huge relief, so I'm sure I'll be back there very soon. I love colour and the garden is a feast for the eyes at this time of year. :)
I visited Tower Hill Botanical Garden today for their annual dahlia bulb sale, hosted by the New England Dahlia Society. I got about 20 bulbs, and look forward to photographing their flowers this summer. There weren't a lot of flowers on display around the property, though, as many plants are a not blooming yet.
Male Red-rumped Parrot (Psephotus haematonotus). These vibrant birds are common around suburban Melbourne, and are often found perched in Eucalyptus trees or foraging in park grasses.
Another partridge endemic to the island of Borneo. Also known as Bornean Hill Partridge. My 429th lifer in my local bird species count.

Another partridge that is endemic to hill and montane forest in Borneo. It lives in primary and secondary forests at elevations of 600–1,800 m and prefers bamboos and thickets. Usually feeds in groups, foraging in thickets, on forest roads and near rivers. Its diet consists of seeds, fruits and insects.
