This group of deer walked across Bradgate Park in imperious fashion and their complete disdain for human visitors was evident.
The accompanying music is from Rosen aus den Süden by Johann Strauss II.
An appropriate title for the romantics among us for this image might be "The Kiss."
Although the lighting is harsh and the capture not as crisp as I would like, I think it's a great moment of interaction between the foxes.
I was looking at some Black Ducks in an inlet when all of a sudden on the opposite shore I saw a fox come out of a brushy area. I thought it would be interested in the ducks, but even though they were close to shore they seemed unconcerned by the fox's presence. Then a second fox that was roughly the same size appeared on the rock in the photo. The two got together with one being submissive. That one was on its back while the other chewed or licked its throat and then touched muzzles as shown here. The approach of a truck caused them to leave. It was the first time I've seen this sort of behavior.

Ralph Waldo Emerson. The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca: On entering a temple we assume all signs of reverence. How much more reverent then should we be before the heavenly bodies, the stars, the very nature of God!
John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.

anessa atalanta, the red admiral or previously, the red admirable is a well-characterized, medium-sized butterfly with black wings, orange bands, and white spots. It has a wingspan of about 2 inches (5 cm). It was first described by Carl Linnaeus in his 1758 10th edition of Systema Naturae. The red admiral is widely distributed across temperate regions of North Africa, the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and New Zealand. It resides in warmer areas, but migrates north in spring and sometimes again in autumn. Typically found in moist woodlands, the red admiral caterpillar's primary host plant is the stinging nettle (Urtica dioica); it can also be found on the false nettle (Boehmeria cylindrica). The adult butterfly drinks from flowering plants like Buddleia and overripe fruit. Red admirals are territorial; females will only mate with males that hold territory. Males with superior flight abilities are more likely to successfully court females.

While taking my cuckoo clock in for repair (the bird was frozen in animation and wouldn't go back in his house!) I spotted these great old fashioned toys that reminded me of the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for some reason. Benny Hill came to mind too.

Northern cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis) are songbirds with crests on their heads and orange-red, cone-shaped bills. Males are a brilliant red color except for a black mask on their face. Females are shades of light brown, with reddish highlights and dark coloration around their eyes and beak. Cardinals get their bright colors from the pigments found in berries and other plant materials in their diet. Cardinals are medium-sized birds, with the male being slightly larger than the female. Cardinals are year-round residents within their range. During mating season males are fiercely territorial, driving off competing males in their territory. Cardinals are considered monogamous, mating with the same partner each breeding season. Pairs of male and female cardinals remain with each other year-round. Pairs usually do not stray very far from each other. The cardinal is a very popular bird and has been named the state bird of 7 states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Red Squirrels are an endangered species in the UK. They number only about 140,000 or so compared to 3+ million grey squirrels that are crushing the red squirrel population by eating the food that reds eat, and bringing disease that reds don't have antibodies for. Find a way to contribute to a red squirrel charity to help save these indigenous beauties.
