Interesting to see how the recycling works at least in Florence Italy. The neighborhoods have the all the usual recycling options to get rid rid of paper plastic glass in separate disposal units but within walking distance of your home. Pros and cons to it but does mean you don't have to have 3 bins permanently outside your home as we do in Suffolk England. Not sure how there recycling rate compares to UK..

Massive fire at Enderby recycling plant
Enderby residents were advised to close windows and doors as firefighters battled to extinguish a fire which was raging through a recycling facility on the Warren Park industrial estate.
Around fifty firefighters tackled intense heat and acrid smoke from the blaze which put much of Enderby under a thick black cloud that could be seen from many miles away. Environment Agency officials also attended the scene.
Residents were also urged to stay indoors and only go out if necessary due to the possibility of toxic fumes.
Some residents reported seeing small pieces of plastic material dropping from the sky.
The fire was reported shortly after 1.30pm on Sunday, and occurred on one side of a compound adjacent to the Euro-Key Recycling facility in Warren Park Way.
Firefighters were still tackling it late into the night. The fire started among stacks of plastic outside one of Euro-Key's three buildings but soon spread to the nearest one – a 15,000sq ft warehouse.
At first, the firefighters had to establish the nature of the burning material, and additional resources were called in from Nottingham in order to fight the flames.
After a six hour battle, they managed to stop the fire from spreading but the factory was still burning.
A spokesman for the fire service told local media it was too early to say how the blaze was started. No one is believed to have been hurt in the blaze.

Thursdays are can & glass recycle day in my neighborhood (Kagurazaka, Tokyo). When is yours?
There comes a truck every Wednesday afternoon that puts out theese boxes at specific places arround in the neighborhood. Yellow boxes for glass and blue for cans . One of those places is right outside mine appartment which is convenienｔ since I don't have to walk arround with the few glass bottles and cans I have. However, on the contrary it's slightly annoyintg too since you hear each glass bottle or can that is beeing dropped in theese boxes and I can assure you that people get rid of their stuff during all the day till very late hours. And it seems some people sees it as their life mission to re-order/arrange the contents of theese boxes when others try to sleep...

Full of bottle caps and any small piece of plastic that would fit in the top - I tossed it in tomorrows recycle pick-up.

Presents “Recycled Dreams”
Teen Fashion Show of Recycled Materials
Bradenton, FL (March 21, 2014) – The Manatee County Central Library is pleased to announce a unique program open to all teens in Manatee County (ages 13-19) called “Recycled Dreams.”
Held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 starting at 2:00 p.m., attendees will present an original article of clothing created from recycled items. Advance registration (no later than April 15) is required for anyone planning to present a homemade creation at the fashion show. Register online at www.mymanatee.org/library.
Prizes will be awarded for the best entries; the grand prize will be an HP Split X2 computer with a retail value of over $500. Funding for the fashion show prizes is made possible through the generosity of the Manatee County Friends of the Library organizations.
Entertainment during the show will be provided by a DJ and various live musical acts. There will also be an “after party” following the main event.
The fashion show is free and open to all on a first come, first serve basis, although advance registration is required for the participating “fashion designers.”
