In 2013, Lockheed Martin proposed a successor to the legendary SR-71 Blackbird, which was retired in 1998. The rationale behind this proposal was that there was a coverage gap between surveillance satellites, as one would have to wait for a satellite’s orbit to line up with a target. To be practical, the new aircraft would have to fly faster than the SR-71 to avoid modern air defenses and close that surveillance gap. The proposed concept was a hypersonic stealth UAV that was to be propelled by the simultaneous use of turbojets and scramjets. The SR-72 would have a top speed in excess of Mach 6 or 6751.97 ft/sec (almost twice the top speed of the SR-71’s Mach 3.2). While the IRL SR-72 exists only on paper, Top Gun: Maverick delivered us the first believable hypersonic aircraft on the big screen.
TGM’s take on the SR-72 is a manned hypersonic stealth aircraft with a top speed of around Mach 10. It is important to note that ridiculously fast speed is not entirely Hollywood. In 2004, NASA’s X-43 scramjet reached a record speed of Mach 9.6. In addition, the prop used in filming was constructed by the infamous Skunk Works, and it was so believable that China repositioned a spy satellite to observe it. In conclusion, TGM has shed light on a new, and exciting realm of high-speed aeronautics that is pushing the envelope of what man can do.
Dimensions of the movie prop are unavailable, so I used the IRL SR-72’s reported dimensions. The Darkstar in 1:72 scale would likely be smaller than this model; but nonetheless, I am still very happy with how this model turned out. I am still a little iffy on the windshields, but the only way to achieve the exact shape would be to print it. The model has retractable main gear and the nose gear can be removed, so the underside of the model is flush for “flight”. I hope y'all enjoy it, and happy building!
I love this ugly beast, it was surprisingly tricky to get the cockpit and wing hinges right but I loved every minute I spent tinkering. The wings fold and the cargo pod is removable, white sand and azure coastline not included! Instructions are on Rebrickable... rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-67227/ron_mcphatty/micro-zeta-cl...

As my exploration of Prequel ships continues, I'm trying to shift my focus to Minifig-scale more, and decided to give a crack at Obi-Wan's sleek Delta-7 from Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
At exactly 400 pieces, this compact and angular ship was full of technical challenges, especially with the constraint of making a proper interior that could accommodate a full Obi-Wan Minifigure without ending up with a bulky design.
Following my "wings must be as thin as possible" philosophy (like the Eta-2), I used a combination of plates & tiles for the outline of the wings, and bricks on their sides for the rest: this resulted in 2-plate thick wings, which give the ship all its slenderness, especially seen from lower angles. At this scale, and given how compact the ship is in-universe, I wanted to respect the slim and sharp look of the original design.
Making a functional cockpit with comfortable space was the most daunting task as I needed to securely attach the fin section and both angled fuselage parts that surround the cockpit without using any vertical space, where Obi-Wan sits. I also managed to incorporate a dashboard that doesn't obstruct the pilot's view and depicts the screen fairly well.
The model features detachable landing gear to be displayed on the ground, as well as a canted stand for a more dynamic pose. The model is very stable overall and perfectly swooshable.

Eurobricks and Rebrickable were challenged by LEGO to make alternate models for current year city sets. The builds had to only use the pieces in available in the official LEGO model, be made in LDD, digitized, tested in real brick and be a model a 7-10 year old could build!!
I received set 60035 "Arctic Outpost".
This was a good set to receive because it had a good variety of parts and plates, but not so many that it was overwhelming. There were some challenges of course, one being there were no brick with stud on one side bricks, though I did have a few good SNOT pieces. Another challenge was the lack of inverted slopes to really shape my models. It was still a fun project and I came up with 5 alternate models.

Did you have one of these in the 1980s? I didn't, but my cousin did, and I loved playing with it. Now I have my own in Lego form.
I can remember the feel of holding the neck and flying it around, finger on the laser trigger. When you tilted it up, it made an accelerating engine sound and a decelerating sound on the way down. It was definitely one of my favorites.
This LEGO model of the classic Star Bird recreates the main play features:
- A button at the back of the command section lights up the laser blasters in front (via two light bricks).
- The command section can detach and dock with the main engine for a more agile star fighter.
- The two small interceptors can detach from the main section.
- The model is sturdy, built with swooshability in mind."

I’ve been dragging my heels, this ones been up on Rebrickable a week already. The bomber was a very satisfying shape to replicate, tricky though as I couldn’t find a way to hold the back-to-back plates of the fin together without building a base directly into it. I threw in Tallie Lintra’s Resistance A-Wing with this too, as I hadn’t included it with any other micro ships before. rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-66320/ron_mcphatty/resistance-bo...

After delivering the cargo to the rebel base commander he is stranded on the planet as his ship was blown to bits by one of Darth Mor's Destroyers.
One day later he is invited by the Commander to his office:
- Cade comes into the Commander's office dressed in a blueish-grey outfit as his Guavian gear was left behind due to damage and to avoid being easily spotted by Darth Mor's Agents.
- Commander: Welcome Cade, Please have a seat. I would like to thank you again for the great job done by delivering to us the experimental fuel. This will save many lives, Cade, that fuel will help us design new engine types and build better Starfighters. We are now planning to take out the facility on Daro and considering you know the landscape very well I was thinking of asking for your help on leading an attack squadron of 10 X-Wings and 5 Y-Wings.
- Cade: Thank you Commander but I would not like to get involved further in your conflict, I'm planning on leaving as soon as I get my promised credits and maybe you can point me to a ship seller so I can look for a cheap ride out of here.
- Commander: Ah well, was worth a try. Sure Cade I will transfer the credits to you for the job well done and I'm sorry about your ship, the only way I can help you is to join me in the hangar and see what we got there.
- Cade agrees and they go over to the hangar where Cade can only see disappointment, Bounty was a part of him, that ship was on his side from the day he left the Guavians. Now looking ahead the Commander points to a strange small-looking ship.
- Commander: Cade this is the S10 Spirit and the only thing we could find about it is that it used to be a Jedi Starfighter. We found it in the hangar long ago, we were thinking it was abandoned here by its Jedi owner when the purge started. We used it to do scouting missions but not more than that. The ship handles superbly and it is hyperdrive capable. We did try to look into its back box to find the owner but it was all blocked, clearly the owner didn't want anyone to find him. Ah, and there is one small droid inside a BD series, we tried to check his data bank but it is locked as well. We left it all there as you never know, maybe the owner would return one day but it looks like not as the ship has been sitting here for a very long time.
Anyways, what do you say? - Cade: It will do, looking in your hanger it doesn't look like I got a better option.
- Commander: I will call in the engineers to get it ready for you. And Cade, our doors are always open to you. Don't forget about that offer.
- Cade: We will see Commander, what brings tomorrow.
- Soon after the Starfighter was ready to go and Cade went in to get ready for departure. He looked at that BD unit with suspicion but left it for another time. At the moment he needed to get away from the rebels and imperials. He took Spirit out for a spin and realized it was quite a formidable fighter.
As soon as he got off planet he was thinking where exactly he could go and hide for a while. Then he could hear from behind him some small engine noises and powerups.
- BD-2: Hellow I'm BD-2
- Cade: Had a fixed look at the BD unit not knowing how to react at that moment.......
The first of four ‘Pike’ cars from Nissan – the 1991 Figaro was a retro design draped over the conventional Nissan Micra platform. The Figaro was reminiscent of classic British, French and Italian convertible cars from the 1950s.
More formally the car is known as a fixed-profile convertible, one where the B-pillar connects to the windscreen, but the rear window and roof retract.
Externally the car was available from the factory in one of four hues representing the seasons: Topaz Mist (Autumn), Emerald Green (Spring), Pale Aqua (Summer) and Lapis Grey (Winter). The car continued the retro theme inside where the car was finished in off-white, and had a soft-feel dashboard top. Subsequently many cars have been refinished in a more conventional palette.
The Figaro was not a rapid car, being powered by the Micra’s 1.0 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 76 hp (57 kW). Peed was not the cars purpose though – rather to be a distinctive and fun mode of transport in a sea of boring grey and white hatchbacks.
And that, it does very well.

In front of you is the most accurate 1:24 scale model of a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302. The proportions of the car are 95% the same as the original, it is impossible to do better in this scale. But you can try to improve my model, I will be only glad. My goal was to build the most accurate model of a 1969 Mustang. I decided to build this car after watching the movie "John Wick"
