I realized this morning that the rowan berries (Sorbus aucuparia) outside have got a nice strong colour and I just had to go out to photograph them, and the remaining summer flowers covered in morning dew.

I realize a lot of my contacts celebrate Happy Bokeh Wednesday. My landscape shots are typically all middle apertures. But while preparing dinner a lime I pulled from a tree in my backyard and my all-time favorite knife, my Wustof santoku were perfectly backlit.

So HBW

Realized I haven't put up a shot of the new car yet, so here it is...

The 1960s were the very end of the "dump your crap anywhere" mentality which was prevalent since the dawn of the industrial revolution. The original Earth Day in 1970, the beginnings of environmentalism as well as the creation of the EPA completely changed the mindset of what is acceptable and what is not.

Never realized how many dozens of shots I never posted from last year's trip until I spent Saturday going through the archives....I think because we had so many crazy spring weather days (7 out of 9 days it snowed) that I wasn't that happy with the landscape shots I came away with, but I found a few that I think are worthy of sharing....after all, overcast days do have their benefits at times :-) This one was taken somewhere along the boardwalk at Midway Geyser Basin....the saturated colors caught my eye. We went there to see Grand Prismatic but never managed to get a good look because of all the heavy steam....there's always this year to try again....just 10 short days to go!!!!

Have a great Tuesday.....and thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!!

:-)) Realizing the function of what we're looking at, shouldn't this photo be marked as 'may offend"? / ;-)) Als we de funktie van waar we naar kijken tot ons laten doordringen, zou deze foto dan niet moeten worden gemerkt als "may offend"?

I realized too late that I had planted some of my hyacinths too close to one of the main deer paths on the property. I watched with apprehension as the tips of the sprouting hyacinth leaves disappeared one by one overnight. However, the deer left the flower stalk alone. It's well known that deer will not eat daffodils. Perhaps hyacinth flowers share some of daffodils' deer repellent properties.

======================================================

Spring is several weeks late this year and getting later because of the unseasonably cool weather. Fortunately, the bulbs I planted last year and in 2021 are now up and blooming.

Not having grown the large variety of hyacinths before, I overestimated their shade tolerance. As a result, some parts of my modest flower beds look like the site of an experiment on the effects of low light on hyacinths. Unlike the specimens seen here, which are upright, others are almost horizontal to the ground in their quest to reach a sunnier spot. I would not be surprised to wake up one morning and discover my bulbs had acquired the skill of locomotion.

I realize I've been underposting lately and it's not so much that life has been busy it's just that I don't have anything too great to show you guys. That being said I've gotten some nicely lit wedges in mud season up here so let's look at a few.

Same Engineer and same situation as the first photo of today's set just taken about 3 weeks prior.

I just realized the other day that I never posted stand-alone pictures of the snowspeeder I built for my final entry to this years IDSMO and thought I'd use the opportunity to test my new camera lense.

I tried to get as close to minifig-scale with this model as I possibly could. It's still a stud or two too long but there is only so much you can do with Lego if you still want a functional interior.

Let me know what you think of my Snowspeeder, I'd love to hear your opinion! Obviously there are still some parts that could do with some more work like the non existent upper airbrakes. If you have any ideas on how to improve the model, let me hear them! ;)

After realizing this small crab spider was not just debris (which discovered after getting home and downloading), I knew I hadn't seen one before. It looked like a Crab Spider to me, so I asked Spider Joe. Turns out it may be an undescribed species and Joe was really interested in learning what they eat. Luckily my first shot showed it eating an Acrobat Ant. I went back a few days later for better shots. It was still on the same side of the tree around two feet off the ground.

I realized the other day that although I have been talking a fair few photos this year, I haven't been posting much, and I really haven't been doing much with the strobes.

So for 2013 I've decided that I'm going to use them at least once per week for the duration of the year and post the results here - time to get back into it :D

Realized it is Wednesday while posting the last photo...so here we are...HBW!

.

This photo was shot at Wingfoot Lake State Park.. A beautiful Ohio State Park, Wingfoot Lake was used in the manufacturing of blimps beginning in 1917 with a contract with the US Navy. More than 600 cadets received flight instruction at this site during WWI. Of course, now we see blimps used at sporting events and as advertising. The park area was initially owned by Goodyear and used for employee family outings during the 60s through the 80s, but then it was closed in 2006. It was purchased in 2009 by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources with 121 of the 690 acres transferred to the Division of Parks and Recreation. If you are ever in the NE Ohio area, I would recommend this state park. You can see the blimp hangar across the lake and flights coming and going. The bokeh in the background of the photograph is the lake and maybe the hangar...it is that close! (And I didn't even get into the park itself with beautiful trails, pavilions, miniature golf, large and small dog parks!) :o)

Closing time here is Santa Cruz. Recently our beaches, parks, boardwalks, scenic pathways, were all shutdown. I was at first sad, but now I've come around and realized if we really want to stop the spread these are the measures we need to take.

I wish I had something more lively and colorful to post today, but alas, it is raining and I have homework to do. Sad faces all around.

Notes included in this pic.

i realized after i heard the song "i stand alone" it belonged to this image. i was never happy with the name of this piece. now it is right.

someone mentioned to me they couldn't tell those were people out there. those are people out there!

badwater, death valley, calif. my very first lensbaby. nothing quite like that effect. boy, i loved that lens.

my anthem

I Stand Alone

I know the sound of each rock and stone

I embrace what others fear

You are not to roam in this forgotten place

Just the likes of me are welcome here

Everything breathes

And I know each breath

It's more than enough for this man

Like every tree stands on its own

Reaching for the sky I stand alone

I share my world

With no one else

All by myself I stand alone

Deep in the darkness my heart still sees

Everything that I'll never be

Behind these eyes I'll go everywhere

There's no need for sympathy

Everything breathes and I know each breath

In my world there's no compromise

Like every tree stands on its own

Oh reaching for the sky I stand alone

I share my world with no one else

All by myself...

Still

I will remember

Still

I'll run with you, yes

And when it's time for you to go

Take me in your heart

Like every tree

Stands on its own

Oh reaching for the sky I stand alone

I share my world with noone else

All by myself

I stand alone

All by myself... all by myself

I stand alone

I have just realized that I have become friends with 8f8 since 2013, July. His creative pictures and desires to be original, and unique were the reasons that I admired him. He has never disappointed 8f8 creation's fans, and remained outstanding for 6 years already.

When I first received this Little World set from 8f8, my heart was deeply touched. They are not regular Christmas ornaments to me. Unpacking the ornaments one after one, I felt as if I was going through the history of him: the well, the sakura trees, the buttercup flowers, the spring trinkets...I remembered all of them. This is the 8f8 I know - someone who tells great stories with his mesh.

This motivated me to create this [The Lover Series] to feature his SL stories as a designer, as well as my sl brother.

I specially want to thank him for his encouragement over these years: from my ugly pics to less ugly ones, he almost faved them all. I don't think he truly likes all of them but the thought of supporting me matter to me a great deal.

Thanks 8f8. :)

I wish you all the best.

I realized that my stream is very blue and cold so I wanted to find some color. I took this one morning before work. The sky was amazing. It was so bright but lasted for a very short time. Straight from the camera and I even turned down the brightness. Still, you might need sunglasses. :-))

I realized that although I liked the way AKA Gigi looked in pictures, in person she left me cold.

So I enhanced her with colors inspired by Glam Addict Giselle. :)

A small little dedication to all my friends and contacts. Wishing you a great day and perhaps, I hope that this green little image will put your heart at ease and at peace. Will be doing my visits soon enough, catch you around on Flickr! :P

Note:

Thank you jimmy1307 for discovering it at the Front Page of Explore! Yay! Thank you everyone! I really appreciate everyone looking out for each other and it is very much appreciated. You just got to feel so honored to have so many wonderful photographers at Flickr! Explored! Thank you my friends! xoxo~! :P

All these years, I only had the chance to look at those beautiful Milky Way images taken by those lucky few. I never realized that one day my yearning would turn into reality. Late at night, I could see so many stars thru the window, so without much delay, we set out into the dead of the night for some stargazing. Without any kind of phone connectivity or an app to help locate the Milky Way, I just went into BULB mode on the camera and a new portal opened before my eyes. My very own capture. I knew at that moment; I exist.

I realize that to most landscape photographers the middle of the day is time for traveling, napping, having a beer, scoping out locations, etc. Sunrise & sunset are the only time that magic happens. Amazing how during the course of a normal day, there is only about an hour of really good time to shoot.

My next trip might not even be able to give me that option. It'll be the furthest away that I've traveled in years, further than Japan. I won't be able to have a rental car, and be stuck around the town of Osan. One of these days I'm bound to run into Trey aka Stuck in Customs on one of these goofy locations.

I realize that at small size most viewers will skip right by this image, but I want to show how well this creeper blends in and how hard such a tiny bird can be to spot and follow.

This brown creeper works its way up a mature arbutus trunk and shows the camouflaging effectiveness of its dorsal plumage.

What I find intriguing is the feather pattern difference between the creepers and the nuthatches. Both are similarly sized birds that share the same ecological niche, only the nuthatches usually travel down the tree trunk as they hunt for food while the creepers move upwards to feed. Why one species evolved such a good camouflage system while the other got a much more obvious colour scheme is a mystery to me, but obviously both evolutionary paths have been successful. Perhaps the colouration is not a feeding advantage at all, but rather a roosting/nesting one.

When we were discussing options for this year's autumn hiking adventure, it almost seemed like there was nothing left in northern Scandinavia that we all still wanted to explore. However, after some discussions, we realized that Finnish Lapland might be an interesting and convenient location for our regular autumn outdoor pursuits.

After conducting some research and planning, we narrowed our focus to Finland's northwest, bordering Sweden and Norway. More specifically, we honed in on the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area, which happens to be the second-largest wilderness area in Finland.

-----

Käsivarsi is somewhat atypical for Finland due to its higher elevation (Finland's highest peak, Halti (1,324m), is located in its northern tip), rugged terrain, and limited wooded areas. This combination sounded particularly attractive to us because it meant we would hike across various types of landscapes, both on and off marked trails.

Our itinerary was as follows: Kilpisjärvi/Saana mountain -> Tshahkaljärvi lake -> Siktagurajohka river -> Meekonjärvi lake including trip to Pitsusköngäs waterfall -> Porojärvi lake including ascent of Saivaara cliff -> Guhturgurajávri/Termisjärvi lakes -> Ailakkajärvi lake -> Kilpisjärvi.

I realize this may not be the best quality of shots, it was taken with my cell phone after all but yesterday as I watched the sun set, I KNEW my beloved Aunt Sheila was smiling down on me. My Aunt Sheila passed away only two days ago.

Yesterday's sunset was the SAME sunset I witnessed right after my beloved Grandma passed away.

Yesterday I could feel her love wrapped around me. It gave me chills. Literally.

Thank you Aunt Sheila for smiling down on me and on US.

I felt it with all of my being.

To realize a life long dream is a special feeling; I've always wanted to look up at the galaxy, gaze at the heavens and simply immerse myself in it's wondrous light. I finally got that chance at Joshua tree national park and thank my dear friend for dragging me here at long last!

This is a collaborative work done in collaboration with my 6-year-old grandson, Niko Felton and all the children from 0-6 who participated in the Ringling Museum Education Center painting activities on July 13, 2018. It was a pleasure to see the pure joy on the children’s faces while they were freely creating individually and together to make 3 beautiful large paintings expressing free will, the ability to cooperate, the fun of learning and interacting. The time passed by so fast and was time well spent, several of the children would have stayed longer had the time allowed.

It is one in a series I have started to help us realize how important the family unit is and that no-one should be allowed to break it up.

Reading so many articles about children being forcefully separated from their families through war, greed and hunger make me realize that we artists must address this issue head-on. No family should have to resort to becoming a refugee in order to have a country, a home, food, good health, education and the ability to make a decent living. We all belong to the human race and therefore should help and respect one another it is the right and decent thing to do. If every country in the world got together to achieve this goal it would be possible so let us make it happen.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Just realized that probably the best time to shoot these statue groups would be early morning when there's not lots of people. In the mid day good angles were hard to come by in the crowd. Also the light would have been softer.

In every year Valencians create about 400 different statues. everywhere in the city. They are shown for five days and after that they burn all them down. All I we saw were really beautiful.

Had fun week in Valencia and we saw the mighty Fallas/Falles. Highly recommended to see!

A set of power of the changing of the guard are assigned to ED-495 headed east along the Millers river. This job handled traffic in the yards around the 495 area. Gardner, Ayer, Nashua, Lowell, Lawrence. This location is your second pick when you realize the bridge is already covered in shadows.

I realized once I uploaded this to my computer that it looks a lot like a picture that I did a few days ago... the likeness was unintentional, sorry.

I realized that yesterday might very well be the last time I am able to shoot a sunset without taking off an afternoon (this weekend sunset comes an hour earlier), so I decided to make a run for Trillium Lake. I've had this one in mind for quite a while. The problem with this location is I need to get through downtown Portland to get here. Not a small task in the late afternoon. What a MESS.

As I passed through Government Camp, about 30 minutes later than I would have liked to, it was still questionable whether there would be an epic sunset or not. The epic clouds were in place. The top of the mountain was fabulously lit. But the bottom of the mountain was dark, a sure hint I was about to be short changed as the sun dropped lower behind some far off distant clouds that would kill the sunset. I arrived at Trillium just as the last light left the top of the mountain. Drat. Just maybe the clouds would still light up. No such luck. Drat again. However there was one lucky surprise waiting for me: fall color! Good fall color along the edge of the lake. Wasn't expecting that up here, at this elevation or this late in the season.

After shooting for a few minutes as the light faded, I ran into Jeff, who had also been hoping for an epic sunset. No epic sunsets for either of us, but some great fall color, nice clouds, and a chance to shoot the breeze about our favorite addiction.

I suspect a certain pilot/photographer tried to leave his mark in my sky. Fortunately, the healing brush tool was able to take care of that.

As always, your critical feedback is welcome.

When you realize the lack that a loved one eventually makes as time goes by and see how little by little those places, situations, and dates in which proposed goals are achieved, whether personal or professional, that come to have a significant relevance in you, makes you feel in the first instance, in a vacuum, in a vertigo, where time doesn't exist, but with the passage of days, once you are working on your being, you stop feeling that experience of emptiness to feel it as a fuzzy memory, perhaps painful, but also distant, with a unique opportunity to overcome it, which is conceived as the present, here and now. However, that's not what makes you move forward, but the decisions you make eventually, only there you will find a reason.

I realize this may be too much for some and I am fine with that. This was processed from a single image using curves, dupe layers, lightening and contrast adjustments. I personally liked the way it turned out so I am sharing it. Good, Bad or Ugly, I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Yes it has a Blair Witch feel. The first time I took my daughter there in the late afternoon/evening she asked who the boy was? I said, what boy? She said there was a boy standing in the front door stepping down into the yard....Freaked me out big time. My 4 yr old daughter is the one who named this house the "Ghost House"

The journey is as important as the destinations. Road-side Randomness in CA, AZ, NM, TX, UT, and NV on my Epic Winter Break Road Trip.

Unfortunately, my GPS had been switched off and I didn't realize it, so I have little idea where most of these were actually taken.

I believe this would be around Marble Canyon on 89A in northern Arizona.

Shot with DJI Phantom 4

The edits I did:

1. Cropped it to 16:9 for a more epic/cinematic shot

2. Separated the water and sand colours to manually adjust each. Pushing the sand into more warmth while the water being more cool.

3. Removed the messy footsteps behind the subject, especially her own footsteps, to make it more surreal.

I do realize I lost a bit of detail at the white part of the salt water, but I like the slightly glow-y effect.

Realizing that the world is inundated with eclipse images, I will only post 1 more. This has a little more interest.

Almost as amazing as the spectacle itself is the related scientific data. A few facts:

The earth has a circumference of 40,075 kilometers. The circumference of the moon is about the quarter size of earth, coming in at 10,921 kilometers, while the circumference of the sun is a staggering 4.37 MILLION kilometers!!!

In the above image, solar flares can be seen. Amazingly, these flares can reach out into space 15 billion kilometers!

Who says there is no God?

I was looking forward to go out with xinapray to do some early morning low-light shooting. We went out to Golden Gardens Park, in Seattle, WA, when it was still quite dark, found a nice spot on the beach and had to realize that there won’t be any beautiful sunrise that day. I believe I was still able to learn a lot.

Some additional remarks:

-I would like to tell you that this is straight out of camera but I had to correct a 3 degree tilt (using a tripod – how embarrassing),

-I had to crop quite significantly to get a composition I like,

-I worked on quite some layers on the curves to get the light and the contrast the way I want it (and to further reduce the noise of a 30 sec exposure)

-I felt I needed to do a b/w conversion.

-Thanks for the use of the ND-filter, Ray (it really helped a lot)

I hope you like it (and the two other versions of that morning too).

For a better version of the same rocks I suggest having a look at Ray’s Swirls taken that same morning.

These photos are for you, Ray!

Please consider having a look in Large and on Black

We realized the the day was slowly drawing to a close as we drifted over the Thames toward St. Paul's. A brief chat on how to cap off the day's tour, and it was decided that we should head over to London's newer architectural enclave, Canary Wharf. Glass and steel awaited in abundance.

Shortly after taking this photo, we were approached by police, who politely advised us not to use our cameras in the area. There were many officers patrolling the area.
