Last month on one of my walks at American Canyon a raptor flew up quite a ways ahead of me and proceeded to fly right past me...this gave me plenty of time to aim and focus on him as he went 'whizzing by' me. When I returned home I realized it was a young Merlin carrying a Dowitcher...can't help it...poor Dowitcher!
By 1997, I had realized that I had mainly ignored railfanning commuter or passenger rail operations. Had I not ignored it, I'd have photos of Blueliners, MU's, GG1's, E & F Units, RDC's.
Upon starting full-time in my current job in 1997, I was given my birthday off as a benefit. Since this happened on a weekday, I decided to start railfanning commuter/passenger rail pithing a day-trip of eastern PA. I would revisit each place at 10-year intervals to document the changes.
My first subject would be the ex. Erie commuter rail operations inbound to Hoboken from Port Jervis.
If anyone has taken the time to read this far, and can tell me what this location is called, I would really appreciate it. This eastbound Suzy Q train will shortly depart CR/MNCR trackage to continue its journey eastward, July 17, 1997. The Susquehanna is a railroad that I should have paid much more attention to. “Oct 5, 2020 at 8:59:59am, I Was Enchanted” A 20 year dream realized. On Oct 5th I was packed up a ready to go with two of my hiking buddies to head out for a 9 day high mountain fall color trip to chase the golden large before the snows came. We were all packed up for car camping, so we could climb a trail for sunset, night hike out, and sleep in the cars, then move to another location and repeat. But we had a dream to score a walk up permit to go to the Amazing Enchantments. I have been lucky enough to score a permit to backpack the Enchantments 6 different times in my 20 year career as a professional photographer, but I have never been able to capture a shot of Prusik Peak and Gnome Tarn with the Golden Larches. I even made it up one other time during Golden Larch Time, but there was already two feet of snow on the ground and Gnome tarn was buried, so no shot. So at 5am on October 5th, the three of us all manned our computers hoping to see the lottery permits for the week pop up, as they release them randomly between 5am -9am. We had all given up, we hat not even seen a core permit pop up. I got it in my head that they might release some at the very last second. I refreshed the screen, put in the pertinent information, and hovered over the last number, and entered it at 8:59:59, and 16 permits popped up, and I snagged one for us! They were gone in less than 5 seconds. Oh My God! We are going to the Enchantments! I texted my two buddies, they could not believe it! So change of plans, now we all had to pack up our backpacks and head to Icicle Creek to prep for the hike the next day. And would a first day hike it was. I carried a 62 Pound Pack, 14 miles, something like 6000 feet of elevation gain, to arrive at this spot just in time for Alpenglow. And finally I realized a 20 year dream to capture this shot and Put it In the Bank!!! Shout out to the two guys that joined me on this adventure, Bryan Moore and Randy Gemar. What an adventure it was to see the Enchantments again, the larch were unbailable! Thank you so much for looking, much more to come

Self-portrait II
(February 14th, 2019)
Englewood, Florida, U.S.A
The Oz Tree House was a part of the whimsical property of Te. It was quite an unusual stay for me for a multitude of reasons. It felt so inspirational to be surrounded by art almost everywhere. I loved old books (I wish I could read them all in one night), stylish antique furniture, incredible gardens and so many other little things.
I think I will remember this place for its unique eclectic style for sure, but also for a little book I found in the bathroom late at night and these words by Virginia Satir written inside: “Life is not the way it's supposed to be, it's the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference”. I read two more quotes that I can't recall anymore, then I decided to learn just this one by heart, so I repeated it a few times, and it was still there in my head in the morning. It made me so happy to realize this simple truth about life that it seemed that suddenly my life became easier; the life that wasn't the way it was supposed to be...
I took this self-portrait in the bathroom. There were three mirrors there, all three so incredible that I couldn't really decide which one to choose.

If you just realize what I just realized,
Then we'd be perfect for each other
and will never find another
Just realized what I just realized
we'd never have to wonder if
we missed out on each other now.
Realizing that Monday September 29th is National Coffee Day, Wonder Woman takes a moment to celebrate! Whether it's the aroma, the energizing boost, or just the ritual of drinking coffee, many of us can't start the day without it!
Even though she makes good money at the IADC, Diana prefers to brew her own coffee at home.
I didn't realize that experience and camera gear can make such a huge difference. But it does. My next in my restored building series is the Flatiron building in Toronto. However I am not happy with the outcome so Toronto bound I go to redo the composition. Using my new camera and my new top secret technique that I developed I know the outcome will be stunning..Stay tuned. for now here is a sample I am working toward.
Realized I had not taken proper advantage of the Michigan fall color so I grabbed some of the last leaves of the season and started floating them on the pond. Especially liked that this leave was likely once on the tree in this reflection. 305

I realize that places must change, but sometimes nothing makes me feel better than a little piece of the past. And this church is definitely well preserved. I knew the priest & nuns... at first by going to JHS there, and then working close by.
I realized I mostly shared some animal pictures from my recent trip to Costa Rica. However, the landscapes were also breathtaking. This pictures was shot in a remote beach next to our hotel in the peninsula of Osa, close to the northern border of the Corcovado National Park. A bench was inviting people to enjoy the sight of the sea, the surrounding and the sunset.

Okay I knew I was going to be busy again tonight. It's my parents 21st anniversary and the English project I stayed up late to work on came back to haunt me again. So last night when I was done all my work early (that's a first!) I waited until it got dark to take some night bokeh shots, like I promised.
So it was 10:30 pm and my dad is sitting watching t.v. in the front room. I was expecting him to give me hell for going out late for no reason. So I got my shoes on and he asked where I was going and I told him I was going to go out and take some night shots and gestured to my camera and he looked at me and then just said "okay". I was shocked. I don't even think I would let me kid do that :s
So I took a bunch of shots and I realized that it's impossible to do it right with out a tripod. So luckily I'm resourceful and made my own tripod. I took a lot of really nice potential shots, but they came out shaky because my hands can't be exactly still. So I was sad, but I got some nice shots anyways, which I will post.
These two streetcars pulled in right when I was leaving, so I walked back to get this. I came back home at 11 and crashed on my bed.
This week has been exhausting. I'm so happy we have a long weekend. Yay Victoria Day!
Yes. I realize I don't cooperate here thematically, and it annoys folks interested only in a certain kind of content. I have no excuses to give you. Whether or not some themes are more "Flickr popular" than others; whether or not my skill level/approach in some genres is much more refined than others, I don't enjoy any one genre enough to ignore whatever else feels interesting enough to photograph/share. So, um, take it or leave it. :)

Standing in the mud, water dripping from the crumbling roof and down the sagging siding of this once-beloved farmhouse, I realize this might be the last time I take my traditional New Year’s photo here. In the past, I’ve taken shots of the mantle above the fireplace in the upstairs bedroom, but going upstairs is no longer an option. The entire back of the house is basically having a midlife crisis and collapsing in on itself. One of the barns has already toppled like a house of cards in a windstorm. The other barn—where I took one of my favorite photos, the one with the Christmas tree in the doorway—still stands, but someone seems to think it’s an all-you-can-steal buffet. I patched it up once, replacing the stolen siding, but now I’m pretty sure it’s a lost cause. Nature will reclaim it eventually, and whatever’s left will be “reclaimed” by people who think they’re doing the barn a favor by stripping it down to its frame. Spoiler alert: The frame will soon crumble and fall too.
So, no, it’s not exactly the most cheerful scene. Is this the Universe’s way of telling me to move on? To spend my time on something more useful—like, say, not trying to restore a barn that’s one storm away from being a pile of wood chips? Maybe it’s time to focus on new places and new projects that aren’t quite so… doomed.
Every New Year’s I get the same existential question: Is this the year I finally get organized? The answer, as it has been for the last 30 years, is probably not. But hey, one can dream, right? Is this the year I stop hoarding supplies I’m “definitely going to use one day” and embrace minimalism ? (though, full disclosure, have you seen the inside of my car lately? Not likely to happen!) Maybe it’ll be the year I give up junk food and adopt a healthier lifestyle—though I’m pretty sure any “adoption” this year will only involve more homeless cats, adding to the already existing chaos.
So here we are, staring down a shiny new year, filled with fresh hopes and even fresher intentions. Maybe—just maybe—this is the year I’ll make actual progress toward that elusive “better future” I keep promising myself. Because, honestly, I’m running out of new years to make it happen—
And with this, as always.... my wish for you... it’s exactly the same each and every year...
“And you asked me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we’ll find better days
‘Cause I don’t need boxes wrapped in strings
And designer love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we’ll find better days “
~Goo Goo Dolls

I didn't realize that I had blown out the chimney area with my strobes until I got home and was pissed that we could have spent so much time outside in the cold for nothing. I used some other shots where the strobes misfired to overlay the blown areas and tone things down a bit. I also changed the color balance to make the white light look as if it were orange-red to seem as if it were coming from a fire.
strobist: long exposure of about 100 seconds, 2 sb-24s fired from cheap ass (never using them again) ebay radio poppers both inside the chimney structure. My ever patient assistant, Lauren, light painted the top of the chimney with a Petzl headlamp (hence the bluish tones).

I realize moments, things, people & etc. come & go, but what’s is soothing the ones that are meant to stay either stay or come back. I recently lost a lot of things from the past except three that was able to save because unconsciously placed them elsewhere. Everything was important but the idea of losing those two photos & my mom’s 2007 New Years card would break my heart in pieces. We may not always understand the events that happen in life but it sure has some interesting sense of humor.
Realized from a concept by IgnusDei, found on DeviantArt.
Problem is that I'm a noob in composition and this ship is very big...so sorry for the picts again...

I just realized I never uploaded any pictures from my trip to NYC! For those of you who don't know this photo was taken in a place called "Dumbo". When I went to summer camp in NYC I was down the street from here and went almost daily. It brought back so many memories. It's so nice there, hopefully one day I'll be able to watch the sunset there again every night.
Excerpt from Wikipedia:
Assisi Cathedral (Italian: Cattedrale di Assisi or Cattedrale di San Rufino di Assisi), dedicated to San Rufino (Rufinus of Assisi) is a major church in Assisi, Italy, that has been important in the history of the Franciscan order. In this church Saint Francis of Assisi (1182), Saint Clare (1193) and many of their original disciples were baptised. It was on hearing Francis preaching in this church in 1209 that Clare became deeply touched by his message and realized her calling. Tommaso da Celano related that once Saint Francis was witnessed praying in this church while, at the same time, he was seen jumping on a chariot of fire in the Porziuncola.
This stately church in Umbrian Romanesque style was the third church built on the same site to contain the remains of bishop Rufinus of Assisi, martyred in the 3rd century. The construction was started in 1140 to the designs by Giovanni da Gubbio, as attested by the wall inscription visible inside the apse. He may be the same Giovanni who designed the rose-window on the façade of Santa Maria Maggiore in 1163.
In 1228, while he was in Assisi for the canonization of Saint Francis, Pope Gregory IX consecrated the high altar. Pope Innocent IV inaugurated the finished church in 1253.
I realized while continuing this project that I definitely enjoy doing schoolwork when it feels like personal work more than anything else. I started this project as a personal thing but showed it in class, which led my teacher to tell me to continue. I took another three photos for this series yesterday but this is the only one I really like. So you may or may not see the rest.
However, I probably can and will post little previews of the others on my Instagram so you should definitely go follow me there. And go "like" my Facebook page as Im starting a small little giveaway soon in celebration of being near 1,000 likes!
Another shot of the Phantom as he gave us a free Airshow the other day. Realize now he was burning fuel whilst awaiting a slot to return. Good for us we got a free show. This was taken standing on my front doorstep. Sadly only had my 18-200 on the camera.
I’m trying to do different things with my outdoor/landscape/scenery photography. I typically love to shoot as wide as possible to include as much into one shot as I can. But some of earth’s beauty is small and we walk over it in order to see the bigger picture. Sometimes we need to just look at everything and realize that the best photos in the world are not those that show us everything, but enough to let our minds make our own discoveries.
What do you see here?
While looking through some old black and white negatives, I realized I had taken two shots from this point. Both were exposed on May 25, 1969.
The first one is the left half of this composite shot. The track on the far left was the mainline through the yard. Until 1959, passenger trains 5-6 used this route to reach the joint N&W-L&N passenger station, about 2500 feet behind me. The platform on the far left is part of the wooden freight station. The yard office was in this end of the building. Two N&W cabooses (both blue) are shown.
The right half of the image shows N&W SD40 No. 1607, Alco C828 No. 1122, and another SD40. The Alco was most likely one of those leased (and eventually purchased by) the Chicago & Northwestern for ore hauling duties. No L&N power was in Norton at that particular time.
The light-colored building on the right was for the mechanical department, but years later (after termites and rot claimed the old freight station and yard office) it became the yard office and crew quarters.
Today, all facilities at Norton are closed. The yard sees an occasional unit train (loaded or empty) awaiting a crew change.
Happy New Year's Day everyone!
My first photo of 2018 was just about to be of a huge and bright rainbow over the nice view where I live, but it sadly disappeared when I ran out with my camera : / So I'll upload this one from two years ago instead - also from where I live. We tried to photograph the fireworks far away (there are almost none where we live), and suddenly realized that the northern lights were there.
Last night we celebrated at my sister's place, with a fantastic view over the towns of Sandnes and Stavanger. It was amazing watching the huge amounts of fireworks in all directions. But of course it rained too much to bring the camera : /

"Life is"
- a poem by Mother Theresa
Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is life, fight for it.

She realized then that there was nowhere on the earth she could get away. Those countless gripping hands, laid hold of every strand of her mind, of her being, then quickly pulled in unison. Everything she was came apart in that moment, twirling away into nothingness, leaving only darkness.
This, they could work with.

Realizing how COMPLETELY dumb it was to be standing on the peak of one of the tallest buildings in the neighborhood during this. I'm seriously thankful to God none of us got hurt. On the way back to my car a tree in front of the apartment got struck by lightning. Like 5 minutes after we got off the roof.
This is the view to the south. (The previous view was Northwest.)
More to come.

I realized I was sick of my Katie Jump Rope collection sitting on the shelf collecting dust. I decided to cut into it and am using the Swoon pattern. The pattern calls for making these stars with just 2 colors, but I wanted to try a scrappy version and love how it looks in this block.
This was not the easiest block to come together. I am not a sewist that likes patterns and I realized you need to have a PERFECTLY consistent 1/4 inch to make this block perfect. But, I still love this pattern because it lets me have big pieces of my beloved fabric and not have to chop it up too much.
There's one mistake in this block (a half square triangle placed the wrong direction) but I'm leaving it in and didn't unpick it so that I won't have the pressure of this having to be THE perfect quilt. Also I see some prints I could have placed differently to mix it up better, but I'm just going to go with it and know that the whole quilt will be sufficiently scrappy to make it all mix in!
Don't look too closely or with a critical eye - also it hasn't been trimmed up! ;]
This is a huge block - if you aren't familiar with Swoon, this is a 24" x 24" block, you make 9 of these huge guys for a square quilt. Can't wait to sew more!

I realized that it's already one year today since I moved to my boyfriend on Eigerøy island, on the south-western coast of Norway.
Even though I don't know that many people here and I don't get to see my friends much, I love the stunning nature around our home, the possability to watch both beautiful sunrises and sunsets, to go on nice walks with my dog in all directions from our doorstep, and of course spending time with my cohabitant Richard ツ

I realized that I never showed my first TrickyBricks weekly challenge builds here, so here's the first one from August of last year. This challenge was to build something in a monochromatic color scheme so I chose grayscale. It's a small observatory with a telescope inside! I didn't have a lot of time to build this one so I couldn't get much more done than what you see here. The seed parts here were the curved balloon sections.
I was really inspired by Richard's lighting design tips for this one. For the cooler "moonlight" I used 2 Power Functions lights hanging from above and stuck them through chrome reflector dishes. The interior is lit by AA-powered fairy string lights that I got from the dollar store. The background is mostly real; blue and green paper with a double exposure overlay for the sky. I hope you guys like it!
