how much I miss you

I realize it's a ladder. Also, in a kiva you descend to the sacred space instead of ascending. The understanding of that space differs a bit among Indigenous Peoples who build kivas.

After the Pueblo Revolt, the victorious people of Cicuye built this kiva in front of the ruins of the old mission church. This expressed their views of the matter quite effectively.

This image is mostly mono, but not because of any processing.

Realized that I never posted this shot, even though it's a favorite of mine from last Fall.

Edited with my soft color pop and then added a texture from my Worn set.

.... and realize that it's still winter.

Hibernation isn't what it used to be anymore. Since our renovations about a year ago I had to put some of the files which I need for work into the room where Cleo hibernates. This means of course that I have to disturb her occasionally when I'm looking for something. Cleo wouldn't mind to be disturbed if I told her that spring had arrived but unfortunately that's not exactly the case right now.

"you will not realize any of this until the night when you will turn your living room into a spaceship. you will tell your parents and they will simply stare at you, their eyeglasses blue from the reflection of the ten o'clock news. all of your friends will ignore you. you will run around in circles. you will jump up and down. you will rack your brain for an explanation, for the wonderful story of your creating it. you will not find it. in place of that story will be a void. you will look at your friends for understanding. they will be picking at their fingernails. they will be erasing a mistake they made on their homework. wrought with discontent you will slide your book-bag's straps over your shoulders, weak under the weight of your mind. you will get up and trip over a root as you walk away."

I realized a couple weeks ago that I hadn't shot a self-portrait in a few months... And then I remembered that my tripod had officially died (I have unfortunately, yet quite mercilessly, dropped it down some rocky cliffs - by accident I swear - several times while hiking over the year). So with the help of my wonderful dad, I now have a new tripod and am ready to rock n' roll once again with my photo adventures!

This first weekend of spring I headed into the forest with Gurbir and Noah to shoot with the gorgeous (and almost long-forgotten) sunshine. When I saw how the light was hitting these logs, I immediately donned my dress, took off my running shoes, and went to stand on these precariously rotting branches. And... er... huh... as I'm typing this, I'm just now realizing that I seem to be wearing this same dress in several other standing-on-log photos... (here, here, here, and there's still more out there...) It must be an unconscious habit of mine. I'll do my best to change it up next time.

Anyway, as I stood here, part of the log started crumbling beneath me. I lost balance and jumped down, my dress snagging on the branches, thus causing my landing to not quite be up to my usual ninja smoothness standards... Still off balance, I stumbled forward and stepped most perfectly into the center of the biggest and squishiest dog poop I've ever seen. It was a bit of a pity that I chose this day as my first day of the year to go bare-foot in the forest.

Just realized i didn't upload anything for 2 months, sorry been pretty busy; I'm coming back with a pic of my new tattooes, love them, expecially the back spine one. Promise do be more avtice later on :P

just realizing now that i took a photo very similar to this one back in mid-september.

oh well.

i cropped this photo to within an inch of it's life.

just didn't want to see my face AGAIN today!

my mood is all over the place these days. i should only be happy with the weather finally taking a turn for the beautiful, but for some reason, i am feeling a bit empty right now.

and no, i'm not hungry! ;)

ah well. spring is in full bloom here and the vitamin D is plentiful, so i'll get it in gear soon.

hope you can all spend a good amount of outdoor time this weekend.

i know i plan to.

song of the day: blue in green, by miles davis

I realized today that I hadn't uploaded anything "seasonal" in a long time. And after considering how Autumn is my favorite season I thought I should do something about it. So I walked about five feet from my desk to a pile of leaves I've pressed and took a couple pictures, transfered them to my laptop, played with one in Photoshop and then uploaded it here. I'm glad I did.

I have realized that playing with white balance (when I'm not taking in RAW) is quite enjoyable. If you ever get the chance to do so yourself, I highly recommend it.

Just realized I have been on flickr for 5 wonderful years!! What a joy it has been, I have learned so much from looking at such beautiful photos! I have met the most wonderful, kind hearted people from all over the world! Many of you have been with me through the loss of my three dogs Rusty, Goober and Miss Penny over the last few years. You helped pull me through, and for that I thank you. I have never read an unkind word or been made to feel uncomfortable by a flickr member until recently. Problem solved, blocking someone is a beautiful thing!!

My friends and I were playing truth or dare and when daring was my time, I was to dress in my shortest skirt and go out to an outdoors restaurant. This photo was taken when I came out of the restroom after changing.

We were ready to paint the town bright red (or my face). We stopped by the pharmacy and met another friend who insisted to get a take our dinner and we did. However, I was amazed at the pharmacy the cashier (a young man) was so decent to my "indecency" but I realized, this is summer, not a big deal! Yet, I was saved by the bell.

The shoes are true vintage (65') Magli made in Italy and each pair was numbered then! White leather garnished with gold thread and crystals. Not an everyday wear of course.

Realized I didn't have a photo focused on this on my stream, so here it is.

I've had this little guy for quite a while now. It's by far one of my favorite tanks of the war.

Enjoy!

I realized a little late how nice the sunset was last night. The bright orange sun set behind the hills before I got to photograph it, but luckily the sky often get even nicer after the sun has set.

I just realized that my Steam Sunday post from earlier in the week never uploaded so here it is belatedly...just a wider take on this scene from New England's own little steam Mecca.

For five weeks before Christmas the Valley Railroad (dba Essex Steam Train and Riverboat) runs an astonishing amount of holiday trains branded as the North Pole Express. Most are steam powered and this requires all three of their steam locomotives to be under steam at once. Excepting the Strasburg Railroad I don't believe there is anywhere else in the United States where it is even possible for three standard gauge locomotives to be under steam at once. But here, every weekend, it is a regular occurrence as the railroad runs 13 sold out departures between 2 and 8 PM every Sat and Sun (only 9 on Tue-Fri) using four consists one of which is led by one of the road's center cab GEs.

Through some fortunate twist of fate I only live a bit over an hour away from this magical place so every year I make a trip or two down just to soak it all up.

The 2:30 PM departure to the North Pole has just departed the Essex depot and is crossing Main St. / Route 154 near MP 4.1 on the old New Haven Valley Line. In charge and putting on a nice show is Valley Railroad #3025, a China Railways SY class 2-8-2 that was built in 1989 by the Tangshan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works for Pennsylvania's Knox & Kane Railroad where it spent its life until that railroad's demise following the collapse of that lines signature attraction, the Kinzua Viaduct. It was purchased by the VRR in 2008 and was rebuilt as a functional replica of a New Haven J-1 'Mikado' locomotive like the type that once plied this line in local service and re-numbered 3025, one number above the last of the original class on the NYNH&H.

i realized that if you're shooting from a steep corner on top an unfinished building, you dont have much time to worry much about your horizon lines....

Despite the lack of a safety shoes and a helmet, we were given 5 minutes by the person in charge of the construction and took the lift to the 27th floor. i wasn't even contented that i took the stairs to the 29th. i was shaking when i tried to look down from where i was standing... this is the thrill of being on top -- the risks, the difficulties and the efforts just to get a shot... but it is worth it... even if i have a lot of pictures with unacceptable horizon lines, i will take more attention to it next time...

I realized I haven't done any photo manipulations in a looong time, so I went to play with fire 🔥

(Does it still need to be said to not try this at home? This is Photoshop, y'all, don't burn yourselves down trying to get a good shot please 😅)

Realizing that Monday September 29th is National Coffee Day, Wonder Woman takes a moment to celebrate! Whether it's the aroma, the energizing boost, or just the ritual of drinking coffee, many of us can't start the day without it!

Even though she makes good money at the IADC, Diana prefers to brew her own coffee at home.

so last night when i looked at this photo the first thing came to my mind was, " oh where did i take this photo" and i was surprised that i didn't remember anything. in the beginning of my trip i was marking every place in my GPS where i took photos and then i realized that these vistas will never look the same so whats the point. but now my head hurts and i am curious to find out where it was. i even forgot what state it was, since i traveled more than 12 states on my trip. oh well have a great days folks :-)

Hey guys,

realize its been a while since I last posted but this is what I have been working on inbetween school and sports. This build is mainly centered around the 1st metro line of Budapest, first erected in 1894 with construction finishing in 1896. I did this because most urban WW2 builds that I see follow the same formulaic structure, so I decided to ditch the buildings that most of those types of builds are centered around and have something new.

I didn't realize that experience and camera gear can make such a huge difference. But it does. My next in my restored building series is the Flatiron building in Toronto. However I am not happy with the outcome so Toronto bound I go to redo the composition. Using my new camera and my new top secret technique that I developed I know the outcome will be stunning..Stay tuned. for now here is a sample I am working toward.

Realized I had not taken proper advantage of the Michigan fall color so I grabbed some of the last leaves of the season and started floating them on the pond. Especially liked that this leave was likely once on the tree in this reflection. 305

I realized after I drew this (while eating at the bar at Chow on Church Street) that the people sitting on either side of me may have thought it was some kind of passive aggressive statement to them. Then I realized that it probably was.

I realize that I am behind yet again and your art is all important to me. After going to a protest yesterday at noon in Chicago, I went to see Hidden Figures at Logan Theater in Logan Square. I had just paid and found my seat when I heard about the protest against Trump's anti-Muslim ban at O'Hare airport and decided to leave, even though I didn't have my camera with me and don't live in that area. My friend Joshua Mellin posted some amazing photos to his Flickr site here: www.flickr.com/photos/joshuamellin/ and I posted a photo and a few videos to my Instagram account here: www.instagram.com/kirstiecat_photo/ There's another protest happening at Terminal Five at O'Hare Airport at 6pm as Trump continues to defy all other government branches, act like a fascist, and appoint a white supremacist with Steven Bannon. If you are an American and you don't stand up to this , shame on you. It doesn't matter what race you are. We are all accountable for making sure our leaders follow the Constitution and adhere to Democracy vs. fascism.

I didn't realize that I had blown out the chimney area with my strobes until I got home and was pissed that we could have spent so much time outside in the cold for nothing. I used some other shots where the strobes misfired to overlay the blown areas and tone things down a bit. I also changed the color balance to make the white light look as if it were orange-red to seem as if it were coming from a fire.

strobist: long exposure of about 100 seconds, 2 sb-24s fired from cheap ass (never using them again) ebay radio poppers both inside the chimney structure. My ever patient assistant, Lauren, light painted the top of the chimney with a Petzl headlamp (hence the bluish tones).

I happened to look at a dead shrub and realized that there were at least 7 male Blue Dashers perched on the tips of the twigs. Managed to get four in the shot - reminded me of what Newark Airport looks like some days. Wallkill River NWR, New Jersey.

I realize moments, things, people & etc. come & go, but what’s is soothing the ones that are meant to stay either stay or come back. I recently lost a lot of things from the past except three that was able to save because unconsciously placed them elsewhere. Everything was important but the idea of losing those two photos & my mom’s 2007 New Years card would break my heart in pieces. We may not always understand the events that happen in life but it sure has some interesting sense of humor.

Realized from a concept by IgnusDei, found on DeviantArt.

Problem is that I'm a noob in composition and this ship is very big...so sorry for the picts again...

Merci à Pierre pour la typo...

I realized after making this that David Luna (Ranger of Awesomeness) and I had the same idea for the tires.

I made this to go with my 5-wide German Schwimmwagen.

Upon finding out Amtrak 48 had been delayed out of Chicago the night before I checked where it was at and realized I had a shot at getting it so I scrambled out the door. The trip would have been a failure if not for the fact that the Maumee Bridge had been opened. The NS Toledo Terminal dispatcher telling Amtrak that "The bridge is up in the air" both gave me a laugh (it's a swing, not a lift bridge) and some hope that I could get over to the east side ahead of the train. As it turned out I had a few minutes to spare and soon enough the eastbound Lakeshore ran around 20T and crossed in front of it to thread between NS 67X in the siding and 17N on main one at CP 285. *hums Mega Man music* *realizes I'm actually humming Punch Out music*

Um... Anywho...

Looky! It's 'ol Rock Man himself. This was a really fun edit to make and it turned out pretty good. Just a little rough around the edges. I think the biggest problem with this edit is he's not emotionless enough. You ever notice how straight-faced he is in Smash? And for no real reason...

I've never actually played a Smash game as Mega Man. Okay, I did once at a Con but I don't remember much from that short experience. :P Oh, and I've played as his a little in Super Smash Flash 2. But other than those two experiences...

Never.

Thr only Megaman game I've played is Megaman 8. I beat all the robot masters but never beat the Wily boss rush.

About midday, I realize that it's time to begin considering something for today's 366 project. I gather the iphone, a coffee cup, and a fern leaf and dart toward the light flowing through the kitchen window. I move things around a few times and still don't have something that feels soulful to me. Then my friend, Lucio, walks in to ask a question. And this is how it happens. Doors open, and options reveal in the moments when you most need them.

All of this brings us here, an image of his hands. He is such a kind person, and he didn't even think twice about accepting my unusual request. Then again, most folks know if they stop by the house, it's likely they'll be in a photograph, smiling.

Thanks so much for following and supporting this little project of mine. I appreciate it.

I'll see you tomorrow, xo.

I realized while continuing this project that I definitely enjoy doing schoolwork when it feels like personal work more than anything else. I started this project as a personal thing but showed it in class, which led my teacher to tell me to continue. I took another three photos for this series yesterday but this is the only one I really like. So you may or may not see the rest.

However, I probably can and will post little previews of the others on my Instagram so you should definitely go follow me there. And go "like" my Facebook page as Im starting a small little giveaway soon in celebration of being near 1,000 likes!

I realize that I'm adult, but I love the Harry Potter series. For those unfamiliar with the series (is there anyone?), new students are sorted into houses based on their character. I'm fairly certain that J.K. Rowling's Sorting Hat would have placed Jonah in Hufflepuff as members of this house are described as trustworthy, loyal, and kind.

* I should give credit to Stadium High School for being my own local Hogwarts.

While looking through some old black and white negatives, I realized I had taken two shots from this point. Both were exposed on May 25, 1969.

The first one is the left half of this composite shot. The track on the far left was the mainline through the yard. Until 1959, passenger trains 5-6 used this route to reach the joint N&W-L&N passenger station, about 2500 feet behind me. The platform on the far left is part of the wooden freight station. The yard office was in this end of the building. Two N&W cabooses (both blue) are shown.

The right half of the image shows N&W SD40 No. 1607, Alco C828 No. 1122, and another SD40. The Alco was most likely one of those leased (and eventually purchased by) the Chicago & Northwestern for ore hauling duties. No L&N power was in Norton at that particular time.

The light-colored building on the right was for the mechanical department, but years later (after termites and rot claimed the old freight station and yard office) it became the yard office and crew quarters.

Today, all facilities at Norton are closed. The yard sees an occasional unit train (loaded or empty) awaiting a crew change.

I knew that I had a patriotic fireworks shot SOMEWHERE in my collection, but I didn't realize that the latest one was from my very first fireworks set with a DSLR back in October of 2011.

Even though I've only done fireworks 3 times last year (and none this year) I had better images to post, but this is a benchmark of where I was a year and a half ago, and it gives me a reason to stick out the waiting and the crowds so I can get in there and do this shot right.

Have a splendid holiday!
