2 a.m. and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?
I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah, we walk through the doors, so accusing, their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize
Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe

I realize it may sound innocent - perhaps naive - but one of the most surprising things to me about visiting Alaska was the rich color palette of the terrain. Despite being deep in Alaska, less than 250 miles from the Arctic Circle, the sun still holds its reign over the summer climate...and with nearly 24 hours of light, the vegetation has ample opportunity to grow.
Certainly, global warming, and glacial melt plays a role in seeing the deeply colored mountain range in the distance. It was surprising to me to learn that much of the green you see along the park road in Denali is vegetation growing atop the glaciers. All-in-all, I highly recommend taking the Kantishna bus tour (11-hours) in Denali, as it is the only method of getting deep into the park, with the opportunities to see as much of the geology, geography, .and wildlife possible.
While the namesake mountain is the primary calling card of this National Park, and rightfully so, it is only seen clearly by approximately 1/3 of the park's visitors, due to the near constant cloud cover. There is so much more, in terms of the vastness, grandeur, remoteness, and ecologic importance of this region to be experienced than simply the sight of Denali looming large above the subarctic plateau.
I posted the Pinky and then realized I had snagged the wrong flower from the desktop, so got this one posted it and thought the date was wrong on it to then I realized that the date of theme posted was 3/18 so 3/23 was okay....wow! what a mix up in my head tonight, DATE good, TAGS good, in the group I think!

It seems so long ago now
That I was sitting here
Taking in everything
Taking in everything
I stopped to look around me
As far as I could see
Across this precious land
Shadows painted by the sun
I don't think I remember
How long I waited here
Watching everything
Watching everything
My thoughts began to wander
Then I realized
Every moment I had lived
Everything that I had seen
Pass like this moment now
Pass like this moment now
Its clear to me as now
Is the moment when I knew
That I can let go
Its time to let it go
With it came the feeling
Strange I'd waited for it
I think all my life
A thousand words brace for it
From my very soul I didn't feel alone.

This is a Hawk Owl (Lifer) thanks to my friends below. It was hanging out with my horses and when I went to feed them it swooped in front of my face and I said, "WTF!" I swear I felt its wing feather. As soon as I realized what it was I ran back home to get my camera, when I returned I was overjoyed and out of breath that it waited for me. I gather It was hunting mice around my round bales of hay on this extremely cold day. Same place as the moose visit a while back. Despite it looking big here it was only about 8 inches long, maybe a little more. What a cutie! I took a few shots and left it alone to keep hunting. All species deserve respect and space. If I stayed I might have scared its dinner away. Mice see me and Rooster and run ;-)
I'm realizing day by day that many of my ideas , framing and subjects are shamelessly copied on Flickr , what really makes me angry is not the copying, but the fact that my ideas receive more faves on other people's photostreams !

Never realized before that this "Chi-ca-go", "Chi-ca-go" is the onomatopoeia for the rallying cry of the California Quails… (Don't ask me to say this prase outloud, I am French after all ) Why not "Sa-cra-men-to" or "Vic-to-ria "… I don’t know. We moved into a more rural part of the Greater Victoria last December and I am so happy to see that we have a healthy population of California Quails around here. We initially had quite a few of them in our previous neighborhood in Saanich (we lioved there for 15 years) , but they all seem to disappear over the years. Apparently, they are heavily predated by the feral cats. The number I see here right now is very encouraging and I hope to be able to photograph them in the Winter, this would be especially nice on one of those rare snowy day. This one was caught on a trail in the woods around Metchosin not around our home. Unfortunately very high ISO.
Wandering through my gallery of previously unpublished images, I realized that I haven't yet managed to keep a promise I made to you.
I spent a night in the Italian Alps on my spring trip to Tuscany.
The morning after, from my pitch, I had a beautiful view of the mountains behind which the sun had just risen.
I put this photo back at the time because I couldn't wait to get to the photos I was actually there for.
In the meantime, so many new impressions have been added that the picture has slipped backwards. Now I'm bringing it up again because those craggy snowy rocks with the golden sky in the background are worth showing off.
Even if the viewing angle from my position is unfortunately not quite as ideal.

I realize this won't be to everyone's taste, and it was different for me as well. But I had to take it. I probably have to describe what this is, as I wouldn't even know if I hadn't taken it :)
I was walking on the outer walkway of the second floor of a building with the sun shining in from the left. There was a wooden railing to the left and the building was to the right, with windows from floor to ceiling. As I only had my Pentacon AV lens with me, and it has a fixed aperture of f2.8, I could either focus on the foreground or the background, and I tried both, but choose the foreground focus, leaving the entire rest of the image in bokeh. So what you see is the railing, the shadows from it, and the reflections duplicated in the windows at the right, with the window frames in the centre, but not entirely symmetrical. Hope that makes sense!
"People don't realize now is all there ever is; there is no past or future except as memory or anticipation in your mind." - Eckhart Tolle
When I really think about it, I see the truth in this quote. It sounds silly, but the thought started while I remembered my anticipation of these grape hyacinths I planted years ago. Years went by with only foliage popping up...no blooms. Every year I would wait, get super excited...and be super disappointed. This year, I was finally rewarded with some long awaited blooms.
So the question is...and not just about flowers, about anything we experience in life...what's the best part: the anticipation, that's full of hope and fantasies...or the memories that can be looked back on in thought and in pictures? I think it's some combination of both...reminiscing old adventures while anticipating new ones....

I just realized the other day that I have taken quite a few photos of Father John Misty or Joshua Michael Tillman over the years but never posted any of them, which is just a thing that happens when you photograph several bands every day of a festival and have thousands of photos to go through after you haven't slept three nights straight. Anyway, Father John Misty puts on a good show and you can listen here:

Lyrics:
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey
The moment you realize
Those moments just pass you by
Gonna take you to paradise
Move it
Make you prove it, yeah
Breakin' out
Break it down
Feel the chill, feel the chill
Movin' down your spine
When we recall and realize
Make you realize
I've got the power to hypnotize
Make a play, mesmerize
Feel the chills up and down your spine
I'm gonna make you fly
And your eyes playin' tricks on you
And your mind will seek the truth
You know you're gonna make it through
I said, move it
Make you prove it
Shake it out
Shake it down
Feel the chill, feel the chill
Movin' down your spine
When we recall and realize, hey yeah
Gonna make you realize
I got the power to electrify
Make or break or satisfy
And feel a chill up and down your spine
I'm gonna make you fly
Fly, fly
When we recall and realize
Gonna make you realize
I got the power to hypnotize
Make a play, mesmerize
Feel the chills up and down your spine
I'm gonna make you fly
It's the moment you realize that the treasure you held in your hands you couldn't hold on to. In memory of Bart Bader, whom I sorely miss. 💕

"You were the shadow to my light
Did you feel us?
Another star, you fade away
Afraid our aim is out of sight
Wanna see us alight
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Was it all in my fantasy?
Where are you now?
Were you only imaginary?
Where are you now?
Atlantis, under the sea, under the sea
Where are you now? Another dream
The monster's running wild inside of me
I'm faded, I'm faded
So lost, I'm faded, I'm faded
So lost, I'm faded!"
I just realized how long I haven't been to my beloved Elbe Sandstone Mountains. It's been a shocking 8 months now. I can not believe it.
Even though I've been to some beautiful places in the meantime, I really regret that I just didn't have the time.
To account for this and to remind myself that I would like to spend a day here again as soon as possible, I pull a previously unpublished photo from my archive.
The memory of that magnificent sunrise on mt. Lilienstein eases my pain somewhat and I hope the sight of the soft clouds floating over the forests and fields, bathed in an orange-pink light by the rising sun, brings you some joy.

I realized I hadn't posted this cub's photo and I had meant to because I thought he/she has the strangest looking face.
It's one of a set of triplets, the ones that I did the video of them walking practically right up to my cabin door and growling. You remember that, right?
This cub didn't look odd to me then but this picture, I don't know.
Just something about its face looks strange to me.
Turning backwards, it is realized that in this high point of the ruins of the Pilaloma there are other ruins of the two lateral enclosures with their doors facing the Castle. These two enclosures leave a narrow intermediate runner of 0.80m which, coinciding with the longitudinal axis of the entire trapezoid, advances to its major base. Interestingly, the corridor divides into two elongated sections equal to Pilaloma, and goes through the Wanka that marks the multiple tomb. All these elements (geometry, tomb, wanka, corridor, orientation, etc.) have led to interpret the site as a testimony of something more transcendent of the Cañari culture. Indeed, the latest archaeoastronomic studies assert that the corridor and the wanka were associated with the observation of the sun on the summer solstice, on June 21.

We were excited to embark on a hiking tour of the secret trail in the nearby touring area of Ohlstadt (aka gate to the famous mountain Heimgarten but we intended to hike to a different summit.) We loaded our car with essentials like water bottles, snacks and hiking boots, and set out early in the morning to begin our adventure.
As we started on the trail, we quickly realized that this was not going to be an easy hike. The ground was slippery due to recent rains, and the trail was very steep. We had to rely on our instincts, sense of direction and outdoor app, as there were no guideposts to show us the way.
Despite the challenges, we were determined to reach the summit. We pushed ourselves to keep climbing, taking breaks to catch our breath and admire the beautiful views along the way. We saw few hikers on the trail, which added to the sense of adventure.
After 2.5 hours of hiking, we finally reached the summit. The view was spectacular, and we felt a sense of accomplishment and awe as we looked out over the valley below.
As we made our way back down the trail, we felt grateful for the experience. It had been a challenging hike, but the reward at the top had been worth it. We felt like we had discovered a secret gem in the touring area!

i realize that i have not written much here over the past few years. and i am a writer, first and foremost. how odd, to have abandoned the opportunity to paint with words, with sounds and rhythms, offer a complement to the images. so ...
i suppose if you are the kind of person who has a predilection for words, then you will read further. if not, well, there are many images in this stream (including this one, i hope) that speak their own language. :)
i have walked this path, this sentiero. i have walked it, felt the cold autumn air wash over me, the warmth of the sun on my face. i have seen deer bounding across the crests of the hills and pheasants skittering across the surface of the deeply plowed earth, the clay, the crete senesi. i have stood in the midst of this great space, small, very small amidst the waves of autumn blues and greys. i have felt this place, experienced it. and forgotten it. it takes so little time for memories to fade. it takes a conscious effort to preserve them. i work diligently to live in the moment, so diligently at times that i forget. and while the present is the only reality, the past does provide its context, the future does offer some hope, and my memory, though fallible, is not simply a nostalgic salve to ease my aging mind. it's a part of who i am, what i am likely to become.
i have walked this path, seen it anew. and remembered.

Old photograph realized completely in the open while I was lying on the beach of a small town located on the Teramano coast, Martinsicuro. That day I remember that on behalf of the SOA (Ornithological Society of Abruzzo) we were counting the nests, to try to sensitize the various municipalities to protect them. It was cold and it was very cloudy, but when I saw the scene of some young of Kentish Plover who were going to warm up under the wings of his mother did not resist the temptation to photograph them, trying to stay away and not to bother them too much.

Dear friends, this 2019 was really a year of many changes for me.
One occurred at the beginning of the year and the other now, in September, which I consider for a long time the real beginning of the year. I will have less time here to visit your galleries and probably also to post mine, as the processing takes a long time.
I am sure that I will resume a certain rhythm here too, as soon as I will be adapted to the new rhythms.
Winter is very long and I will certainly not leave my passion to play with images so easily.
Please excuse me for being less timely in responding to comments and groups.
Thank you for your support, dear friends
