Confronting Homelessness

Video: www.lifeplusstyle.com/realitycheck.html

Anderson, Indiana (November 12, 2010) – This past Friday The Christian Center (TCC) and Alternatives, Inc. teamed together to host Reality Check, an overnight homelessness awareness and fundraising event in Anderson. Approximately 150 people spent the night, some sleeping in houses made from cardboard and using cardboard as their bed and blankets.

As of the last official count it was estimated that there were over 670,000 people who experience homelessness on any given day. In the Anderson, Indiana, Madison County area the best estimate of as to the number of homeless people is around 650 at any time according to Shayne Tacket, Operations Manager, at The Christian Center.

Homelessness has no boundaries when it comes to age, sex, or nationally. According to National Alliance to End Homelessness, measuring youth homelessness has been a major challenge; unfortunately, significant, seminal data on youth does not yet exist. While hard data isn’t available, the alliance estimates that young adults ages 18 to 25 make up 40 percent of street youth and about 33 percent of the total homeless youth population.

In today’s economy homelessness is becoming an even larger crisis for people of all ages and nationalities. Families that were once stable are finding themselves today with no place to go but to the streets. To make matters even worse is the fact that those trying to help, the shelters and soup kitchens, are being overwhelmed by the increased numbers of homeless and the decline in those who can help support their efforts everywhere.

To learn more about the homeless in our area and how to help visit The Christian Center at www.thechristiancenter.org/ or learn more about this crisis in the U.S. visit the National Alliance to End Homelessness, www.endhomelessness.org/.

I loved these nautical-inspired boxes as soon as I saw them. As I am in the midst of some major renovating and remodelling on my house, I plan to use the 'dreams' box for images of all the purchases I need/want to turn 'house' into 'home'; once the items have been purchased and installed, the photos will get transferred to the 'reality' box so I can have a beautiful record of my progress.

Architectural Day 2017 - Foundation Polderblik starts its activities in De Realiteit, Almere, The Netherlands

On the south bank of the lake Noorderplassen in Almere is situated the experimental housing community De Realiteit (The Reality). Seventeen prize winning designs of the second design competition of the foundation "The Fantasy" were built here in 1986. A year earlier "De Fantasie" organized a design contest entitled "Temporary Housing". The prizes consisted of plots building land of 20 x 20 m, where the winners, 17 in total, could achieve their winning ideas. This contest followed the competition “Ongewoon Wonen” (Unusual Living) of 1982 and was realized at the lake Weerwater in Almere City.

By their design, the contests offered opportunity for the most free designs, especially as the building rules did not have to be met. Concepts as demountable, displaceable and limited lifespan were central. The removal of the building rules meant that the honored buildings had to be considered temporary. The applicants knew in advance that the normal funding source, namely the mortgage, was not available due to the temporary carcass. Traditional design principles, necessary to ensure sufficient market value, did not therefore have to be a point of departure in designing. This required the imposition of other than normal funding sources, such as subsidization, corporate sponsorship.

The jury consisted of: Pi de Bruyn, architect; All Hosper, landscape architect; Jon Kristinson, architect and construction engineer; Bruno Ninaber van Eyben, industrial designer; Jeanne Roos, journalist; Luce van Rooij, gallery owner and Moshé Zwarts, architect and chairman of the jury. They assessed the submissions according to the criteria: resourcefulness, feasibility, construction, material use, design, housing and energy management. The winners of the competition were given land on the site by the Government service IJsselmeerpolders, in cooperation with the municipality of Almere.

A Vida dos Moradores de Um Edifício no Meio da Cracolândia

An Immersive Audiovisual Performance by WILLPOWER LIFEFORCE of WILLPOWER STUDIOS

VISUAL REALITY happened at an event named ‘Visual Reality’ in Santa Monica — California, based on VR Experiences, Sound Healing Frequencies with the SubPac and Immersive Projections.

Special thanks to the Visual Reality amazing team 🙏

The video shows the second part of the Immersive Performance, which is an Audiovisual expression of light, sound and energy.

The first part of VISUAL REALITY is about connecting with our Spirit and Living from our Heart, beyond the Mind and its dual nature.

VISUAL REALITY brings light and sound together. As the light travels according to a eerie background soundscape, it gives it life.

The human subject (Performer) reacts and is affected by the sound which is visualized based on its frequency and how it travels between 2 channels (left & right speakers).

There is a battle between humanity and an evil force controlling Society represented by an intense drumming pulsation.

The beginning sounds represent the creation of life through its elements (Fire, Air, Water, Earth, Void, Spirit) with Light & Sound, from which the entire Universe emerged.

At some point in the performance, WILLPOWER LIFEFORCE (the performer) becomes in sync with a sudden shift of the drums which change from agressive to rhythmic, being a sonic indication to finding one’s own voice within the perceived disharmonic.

The instrumentation multiplies its layers into a climax of Sound, Light and Energy.

Sri Lankan artists (T.P.G Amarajeewa & Chaminda Gamage)

Amarajeewa and Chaminda were part of the International Artist and Cultural Exchange Program that included artist talks & workshops at Atrium Gallery One Capitol Hill, AS220 and the Warwick Art Museum.

Both artists exhibited in the Asian Art Exhibit at the Atrium Gallery and at the Warwick Art Museum. RISCA gathered together Asian Community Leaders for a reception at the Atrium and other events that were organize at AS220 for the Asian Leaders as well

Keerthi Sri Weerasinghe, Co-coordinating Secretary to the Hon. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka was the point person along with the regional Sri Lankan community organization and the Laotian Community Center of RI.

I paint the notes of a personal struggle that is common to all of us and from which none of us can escape. I believe that these are the unfulfilled visuals of an inescapable truth that may appear extremely personal but which are nevertheless societal. Neither you nor I can do much by way of escaping from the current social realities except perhaps by seeking relief in religion. The most valuable of our bodily possessions are but a heart beat's distance away from being extracted by a myriad of entities and processes, ranging from our closest friend to the processes of global capitalism. This capture or possession does not respond to any anesthetic nor can it be kept at bay by any inoculation. It is at the door.

T.P.G Amarajeewa

It was common to see the words

“Namo Buddhaya”, “Swashthi Siddham” or the portrait of a

filled pot as a symbol of prosperity in front of each house in

the past. Sometimes, it was a tree which was considered to

bring prosperity. Today, we collect garbage in front of the house

early morning and wait for the Municipal Council’s garbage

collection vehicle. Don’t get me wrong. It is obvious

that modern conveniences have improved our quality of

life tremendously. At the same time, it has altered human behavior,

in that we are surrounded and immersed in an environment

of our own artificial creations. The sun, the moon, trees and people in my paintings are flat representations. It represents the influence of the modernity over the tradition. Our traditions, norms and customs have been overtaken by modern technology and consumerism and the final result is everything is one dimensional and flat. I would like to draw your attention to the flatness of our lives through my paintings, yet at the same time, the signs, the ways and means of subject items

which I have used add a different dimension. It is my intention

to create something new and meaningful by bringing together, these two extremes.

This is a photograph from the 5th annual Clongowes 5KM road race and fun run which was held at Clongowes Wood College, Clane, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 20th March 2016 at 11:00. The race is held annually as a fundraiser in aid of Clane Athletic Club and the Order of Malta International Camp and Lourdes fund. The weather was very good for road running. A cold dry crisp spring morning with clear skies and little wind. The race starts within the grounds of Clongowes Wood College at the Gold Course Side. The race proceeds out the golf course exit onto the Clane Kilcock road (the R407) and heads towards Kilcock. At the next junction (Borehole Cross) the course then takes a left and heads towards Prosperous village on the R408 known locally as 'the straight road'. About 1KM after the turn the course turns left in Ballynaboley and makes its way along a small boreen road which brings runners to join up again with the Clane Kilcock road. The race then runs right towards Clane and soon the runners see the famous landmark of the gates of the entrance to Clongowes Wood College. There is about a 400m straight stretch down the avenue to the finish as runners look down the straight avenue to the finish and the backdrop of the historic college buildings. Overall the course is flat and fast with a small incline over the first 2KM before the race turns off the Clane-Kilcock road.

The race is supported by Clane Athletic Club which is one of Ireland's newest athletic clubs. The club was reformed in 2012 with the principal aim of promoting athletics for all ages in the village of Clane and surrounding areas.

The grounds of the college provide a historically significant backdrop to the race. The school can trace its history back to a large estate owned by a local family in the 1400s. The estate became a school in the 1800s. While Clongowes is well known in the educational domain it is also well known for its strong history in schools rugby union. Today Clongowes Wood college is a voluntary secondary boarding school for boys.

BUT..... Wait there a minute....

We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. We do not charge for our photographs. Our only "cost" is that we request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, VK.com, Vine, Meetup, Tagged, Ask.fm,etc or (2) other websites, blogs, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us or acknowledge us as the original photographers.

This also extends to the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?

You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. Have a look for a down-arrow symbol or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.

I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember when requesting photographs from us - If you are using the photographs online all we ask is for you to provide a link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. You will find the link above clearly outlined in the description text which accompanies this photograph. If you really like what we do please spread the link around your social media, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc. If you are using the photographs in newspapers or magazines we ask that you mention where the original photograph came from.

I would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
