Shutterstock Captures the Essence of the CreativeMornings Community
Reality is not passive; we actively shape it with our thoughts and actions. Our personal universe is based on the stories we tell ourselves and the worldview through which we look out into the world.
In May 2016, CreativeMornings and Shutterstock (one of our global partners that makes our work possible), celebrated the theme of Reality.
Shutterstock surprised the community in 10 cities—London, San Francisco, Montreal, New York City, Vancouver, Singapore, Toronto, Berlin, and Chicago—by hiring local photographers to capture the diversity and backgrounds of their own CreativeMornings community.
Not only do we get to observe and study the work that was produced, but to also enter into the minds' behind the camera—how does their worldview shape their work and what do they hope to communicate? How do they use their lens to capture reality, and at the same time, inspire us to look into a new direction to change our reality?
We are excited to share the full album of portraits of our global creative community.

This was a school project, "Dream vs. Reality". I documented my days for about 2 weeks with a photograph each day. These photographs are put in the hand made album shown at the top. This was "Reality". I also documented my dreams for about the same period of time, wrote them out on pieces of paper shown above and then made collages showing visual glimpses of the dreams. The box is the mind containing all of this.

This is the famous ship wreck of Gramvousa island in Chania , Crete! i saw this wreck in 2 ways : The normal way and the Impressionist way. I cant determine which way is my favorite. You may vote. You may leave it that way.

Occasionally, and with far less frequency than before, I enjoy a good reality tv show trainwreck. It started WAY back in the day with the first few seasons of The Real World on MTV when I was in middle school. First there was Trading Spouses, which is so awful and amazing, especially with the God Warrior woman. I also indulged in America's Next Top Model, The Rachel Zoe Project, and RuPaul's Drag Race (which I would not declare a trainwreck). However, the latest and greatest has to be this horrible abomination of A-List Gays on LOGO. Dear Jesus, it's so 'effing bad. It's like the unabashadly worst behavior without any need to apologize. And I'll be watching, DUH! I think I am most disappointed in Mike Ruiz, not only for appearing on this hot mess but for that awful shaggy haircut. I mean, he is the ultimate salt and pepper muscle daddy and we all know those muscle daddies need buzz cuts, don't we?

This is what happens when procrastination and laziness meets daily reality. My photgraphic ambition was much greater than the time, facilities, improvised lighting, experience and skills needed to achieve that vision.
I was trying to use a part of my bedroom for a photo shoot, but there was not enough space and the laundry waiting to be folded was in the way. The lamp was meant to be a light source for the shot that was to be staged off to the right.
At least everything is now nicely folded.
I am in the process of juggling furniture and will soon have a room dedicated as a photo studio.
