O termo „roça“ tem basicamente o mesmo significado de „plantação”. Mas em São Tomé e Prícipe (STP) uma “roça” é muito mais do que um campo de cultivo.
A economia agrícola surgiu em STP alguns séculos atrás e enriqueceu, sobretudo, os proprietários dos campos de cultivo, enquanto os trabalhadores, que foram quase sempre escravizados, ficaram morando em barracas simples.
Os proprietários e as suas famílias moraram em casas feudais, que também foram parte da “roça”, e que hoje estão arruinadas frequentemente.
Com apoio dos investidores estrangeiros, principalmente da Europa e da África do Sul, algumas casas históricas foram restauradas durante os anos passados.
Muitas “roças” ainda hoje estão a produzir principalmente café e / ou cacau. Algumas poucas “roças” se concentram no cultivo das frutas tropicais para exportação.
Até hoje os trabalhadores e as suas familias ainda moram nas “roças” e ocupam-se, além do trabalho na produção agrícola, também das suas atividades mercantis. Cada “roça” tem várias lojas, algumas até têm restaurantes e um hospital. Então, uma “roça” de qualquer forma não é muito diferente daquela coisa que chama-se “cidade pequena”. Em STP a diferença principal entre “cidades pequenas” e “roças” é a história da sua formação.

Das Wort „Roça“ bedeutet im Deutschen soviel wie Plantage, wobei mit „Roça“ in São Tomé e Príncipe (STP) wesentlich mehr gemeint ist als die bloße Ackerfläche zur landwirtschaftlichen Bebauung.
Die Plantagenwirtschaft begann in STP schon vor einigen hundert Jahren und hat vor allem die Plantagenbesitzer reich gemacht, während die zumeist versklavten Arbeitskräfte in sehr einfachen Barraken untergebracht blieben.
Die Plantagenbesitzer und ihre Familien wohnten in feudalen Gutshäusern, die ebenfalls Teil der „Roça“ sind, und von denen viele heute verfallen sind. Mit Hilfe ausländischer Investoren, hauptächlich aus Europa und Südafrika sind einige in den letzten Jahren restauriert worden.
Auf vielen „Roças“ wird heute vor allem noch Kaffee und Kakao produziert. Einige wenige „Roças“ beschränken sich auch auf den Anbau tropischer Früchte zum Export.
Die Arbeiter und ihre Familien wohnen dort noch immer und gehen neben ihrer Arbeit in der landwirtschaftlichen Produktion auch kaufmännischen Tätigkeiten nach. Jede „Roça“ hat diverse Läden, manche sogar Restaurants oder gar ein Krankenhaus. Eine „Roça“ unterscheidet sich daher kaum von dem, was man landläufig als Ortschaft bezeichnet. Der wesentliche Unterschied besteht in der historischen Entstehung.

Es conocido también como Palacio de Oriente, a pesar de estar situado en la parte más occidental de Madrid, debido a su ubicación en la plaza de Oriente, llamada así al estar situada al este del palacio. A eje con el palacio, y enfrentado, se encuentra al otro extremo de la plaza el Teatro Real.
El palacio fue construido por orden del rey Felipe V, sobre el solar dejado por el Real Alcázar, destruido casi del todo por un incendio en 1734. Tanto los cimentos del antiguo alcázar como alguna de sus estructuras fueron utilizadas para la construcción del nuevo palacio. El episodio del incendio sirvió para justificar la sustitución del viejo edificio por un palacio acorde al gusto de la época. Su construcción comenzó en 1738, según trazas del arquitecto Filippo Juvara, quien proponía un palacio mayor pero en una ubicación diferente. Al morir Juvara, se encomendó el proyecto a su discípulo Juan Bautista Sachetti, a quien se exigió adaptar los planos de Juvara al solar del antiguo Alcázar. Otros distinguidos arquitectos españoles como Ventura Rodríguez participaron y se formaron en la cantera del nuevo palacio, a él se debe la configuración de la Real Capilla. Francesco Sabatini se encargó de la conclusión del edificio, así como de obras secundarias de reforma, ampliación y decoración. Carlos III fue el primer monarca que habitó de forma continua el palacio.
El último monarca que vivió en palacio fue Alfonso XIII, aunque Manuel Azaña, presidente de la Segunda República, también habitó en el mismo, ocupando las habitaciones que anteriormente había ocupado la reina María Cristina y siendo, por tanto, el último jefe de Estado que lo hizo. Durante ese periodo fue conocido como Palacio Nacional. Todavía hay una sala, al lado de la Real Capilla, que se conoce por el nombre de «despacho de Azaña»

Edificado en la primera mitad del siglo XVI, el patio de la Real Chancillería fue creación de Diego Siloé hacia 1540, mientras que su fachada, influencia del manierismo italiano, con muchos y variados elementos decorativos, es un primer apunte del barroco que empezaba a introducirse en España. Ideado por los Reyes Católicos, fue Carlos V quien lo mandó edificar y fue el primer edificio en albergar un tribunal de justicia en Granada. The Royal Casino of Murcia is one of the most emblematic buildings of the city of the same name, capital of the Region of Murcia (Spain). It is located in the center of it, on Calle Trapería, not far from the cathedral. The building, whose construction began in 1853, is a mixture of different artistic currents that coexisted in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century in Spain and was declared a national historical-artistic monument in 1983, which is why it is currently considered an Asset of Cultural Interest, with the category of "monument".
The building is the headquarters of the institution of the same name, which functions as a private club. It is open to tourist visits and other events, it is the most visited civil building in the Region of Murcia and, counting only organized groups, an average of 150,000 people visit it annually, of which 25,000 are foreigners.
The building has been extensively restored between 2006 and 2009. On the occasion of the completion of the restoration works, King Juan Carlos I of Spain granted the Casino de Murcia the title of "Royal".

Se encuentra en el centro de la misma, en la calle Trapería, no lejos de la catedral. The Bardenas Reales (sometimes Bárdenas Reales; in Basque, Errege Bardeak) is a semi-desert natural region, or badlands, of some 42,000 hectares (100,000 acres) in southeast Navarre (Spain). The soils are made up of clay, chalk and sandstone and have been eroded by water and wind creating surprising shapes, canyons, plateaus, tabular structures and isolated hills, called cabezos. Bardenas lacks urban areas, vegetation is scarce and the many streams that cross the territory have a markedly seasonal flow, staying dry most of the year.
This cowboy, seated inside the store, is the real deal. His horse is around the corner to the right tied to a mesquite tree. This photograph was taken 38 years ago but the vaquero is still alive and kicking.
The short guy by the doorway, named "Cesar", has not been seen for quite a while. He was essentially homeless when this photo was taken and he lived in a guardhouse that had fallen into disuse. Some kind folks in the town did look out for him and it is actually astonishing to me that he is dressed as well as he is, with clean clothes, almost approaching the exalted state of "dapperdom".
This was a found shot and was not posed.
