One early morning at Brekkeseter, Rondane. It looked like frost from a distance, but it was all dew and droplets.
This is an amazing 60 Mega Pixel fractal image created with Fragmentarium, which uses the computer video card (GPU) to instantaneously render these images. This means that you can fly through the fractal space in real time and make adjustments to color and rendering detail immediately.
Quite a change from the days when an image like this would have taken minutes (or even hours) to appear on the screen.

Colaptes melanochloros es el nombre cientÃfico del pájaro carpintero real. Pertenece a la familia Picidae que está formada por 212 especies distintas de distribución cosmopolita, con excepción de Magadascar, Australia y OceanÃa.
Esta especie habita en la República Argentina y América del Sur en general. En la Argentina, mora en las provincias del norte, el litoral y una parte de RÃo Negro. Se lo puede encontrar en bosques naturales, aunque también está adaptado para vivir en parques urbanos.
Representan un alto grado de especialización en su locomoción trepadora y en la capacidad que poseen de perforar con el pico los troncos de árboles para extraer larvas e insectos que son su sustento.
Sus patas son grandes con largos dedos, dos de ellos dirigidos hacia adelante y los otros dos hacia atrás. Las uñas constituyen verdaderos ganchos que le permiten casi clavarse en los troncos verticales.
La cola tiene las timoneras rÃgidas, fuertes y puntiagudas que le sirven de fuerte apoyo para golpear con el pico los troncos, a modo de martillo. Para esta función poseen fuertes músculos especiales en el cuello y en la cabeza.
La lengua es muy larga y retráctil y el pico es fuerte y cónico, terminado en punta como de cincel o de tijera.
Su plumaje es duro, poco abundante y rÃgido. A esta especie se la suele llamar también carpintero de nuca roja debido a la mancha carmÃn que tienen machos y hembras.

I finally decided to dig out the real Polaroid and splurge on film, all in the name of "Polaroid Love" over at the 'Roid Week 2009 group. My photos definitely won't be all that great since I'm not used to using this camera, but, it's been fun to play with.
And, since I don't use the scanner much (at all, I mean), I'm not sure if the settings are right, either. but, I tried and here's the end result.
Anyway, as you can tell, our peonies have bloomed and, yes, the lawn needs mowed... once we stop getting hit with so much rain.
