Increased video content avaliable over the web has decreased people's tolerance for reading. A person familar with modern technology might bock at the idea of reading an instruction manual and instead choose to watch the online video tutorial from their cell phone.
Bedside table reading selections - a cheesy romance novel (I love Jennifer Crusie, even if all her novels are basically the same story) and Best American Sports Writing 2008. I'm a huge fan of the Best American series, and a few years ago I discovered the Sports editions - I love them and I read them every year. I'm a total sucker for feel good sports stories, what can I say?

Reading Museum's prize exhibit is the Silchester Eagle. Silchester, between Reading and Basingstoke, was a major Roman city. In 1866 this wingless Roman Legion Eagle was excavated there. It was the inspiration for Rosemary Sutcliffe's 1954 book "The Eagle of the Ninth", on which the 2011 film "The Eagle" was based. Awesome, even if it does look more like a chicken.
The Senior Common Room at Reading University Whiteknights campus is the remains of the mansion that the campus was the grounds of.
It is a common design feature to emphasise the symmetry of a design by making sure there is an item in the centre; on the line of symmetry. In this case, that's the middle window on the first floor.
The thing is, to suit the internal layout of the building, behind that window is a wall. There's not even any glass, it's just stonework painted black. I don't want to think about how many students have been through this uni and never noticed that.
Sudie L. Williams conducted a Celebration of Reading on Friday, April 29, 2011, coinciding with El DÃa de los Niños/El DÃa de los Libros. At least 105 children participated in the games, Lion puppet craft, tattoos, face painting, photos with the Leo the Lion (Taylor) and Clown (Lion Di), balloon twisting, story time and puppet theatre. Bags and bags of popcorn were consumed by kids and adults alike.
