I have no idea what species of lilies these are. I was at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh in the rain yesterday, and I took this shot from a bridge above one of the ponds there, during a short lull in the deluge. The colours of the leaves in the dull light, were quite spectacular.

Pinksterbloem (Cardamine pratensis)

Pentecost flower (Cardamine pratensis)

In an almost extinct folkloric spring festival, around Pentecost, a "Pinksterblom", or Pentecost bride, was chosen from among the young girls of the village, who then went through the village, adorned with flowers and jewelry, singing and begging.

Pentecost flower was formerly used against spring fatigue because of its high content of vitamin C. The species was thought to have medicinal properties for some diseases.

-------------------------------------------

The high water near the river IJssel near Hattem, actually thought it was not too bad with the height of the water, but think today with all that rain and what is to come in the coming days that there is no more green to see and that only the branches of the pollard willows are still visible

This concrete cast and rusty chain are all that‘s left from my favorite jetty that I‘ve photographed so many times. The wooden structures were destroyed by a winter storm in January 2020. I hope there will be a new one soon.

This was the best example of recurrsion that I could come up with as I wasn't exactly sure what recurrsion actually is.

Residence of Herman Willem Daendels

A great thunder lord and a father of the coolies

The birthplace of Herman Willem Daendels (1762-1818) and the Daendelshuis where he lived with his wife and children. Daendels was a revolutionary by Dutch standards. He joined the patriots, a political movement that wanted to put an end to the rotten regime of Stadholder Willem V. Daendels was therefore a fervent supporter of the French Revolution (1789). After the French invasion of the Netherlands (1795) he made a career in the Dutch army. In 1807 Daendels was appointed governor-general of the Dutch East Indies by Napoleon and he ruled the colony until 1810. A much less well-known colonial administrator from Hattem was Johan François Adriaan Cateau van Rosevelt (1824-1891). He was the eldest son of an impoverished Zeeland family and made it to agent general for Immigration in Suriname and later also a member of parliament. In contrast to Daendels, who was called Toewan Besar Goentoer, the great thunder lord, Cateau van Rosevelt's contract workers in Suriname called “Koelie-papa”, father of the contract workers.

The Daendelshuis on Kerkhofstraat was first occupied by Daendels' in-laws. His wife inherited her parents' house and has lived here with her children since 1811, most of the time without her husband. Daendels went alone to the Indies, where he lived for a while with a Bantam princess, probably the ancestor of the Indies branch of the Daendels family.

2 chicks tread a bare line in darkness,

Puffs of dust waiting in the nebula

For the spark of another

The one who spins from the heat

A purple, glittering gas

with X ray feathers that beat

Fumbling over the first, beak

Locked like a missile for the second

Target, a growing, reactive star.

Mum always did prefer the second.

I’m in the middle of a chain reaction

You give me all the after midnight action

I’m on a journey for the inspiration

To anywhere and there ain’t no salvation

So you can set me free

We talk about love, love, love!

You make me tremble when your hand moves lower

You taste a little then you swallow slower

Nature has a way of yielding treasure

Shine a light for the whole world over!

Acorn or an aker

Acorns are important food for animals, such as mice, squirrels, wild boars, deer, some ducks, and other birds and bears that live near oak trees. In these animals, sometimes 25% of the winter supply consists of acorns. Acorns used to be used to feed pigs.

However, acorns can also be toxic to animals, for example to horses.

Acorns are not storable because they do not retain their germination capacity for more than one season.

Thanks a bunch for all the support! 😁

My party piece, a rock and a splashing wave, mind you this was not an easy ask on this clam morning. My aim was to catch the light through the splash but most of the waves rippled round the rock, when I did get a splash my timing was sadly out to only catch an engulfed rock, as impress as that looks it was not what I was after. However with persistence I got my image. My input will be spasmodic for most of July as I will be in Royston waiting for the new grandchild. I’m taking my laptop so I may post from time to time and with many a walk around the summer fields and tree lined paths I hope for some new images. So it’s goodbye till then but I’m sure I’ll be entertained by your lovely photos.
