Took this picture on our first visit to this ancient Laurel tree forest on Madeira Island. The Fanal forest is a photographers dream especially with fog we were a little dissapointed that morning, since we did not get any fog but this tree stood out because it was backlid from the sun and looked like it was reaching out to the sun , making this a very peaceful picture.

Cima Pisciadù is a nice "almost 3000-er" in the N part of Sella Group. It can be fairly easily reached from the nearby hut.

A chimera is a mythical beast made of parts from several different animals. This chimera has weird antennae, tubular nostrils, the head of a praying mantis, wings of a damselfly and abdomen of a dragonfly. But this chimera is actually an adult antlion, a creature unfamiliar to most, for the adults thrive in arid, remote areas and only live about 4 weeks.
Many children and naturalists are familiar with the distinctive insect traps constructed by antlion larvae. They are conical depressions in the sand, 0.8 to 2.0 inches in diameter. A larva walks continuously in a circle, flicking sand with its head, gradually digging deeper. When the pit reaches appropriate diameter and depth, the larva digs into the bottom of the pit so that it is buried, usually with their mouthparts barely exposed at the bottom of the pit. When an insect, usually an ant, wanders into the pit, the sides give way so the ant slides to the bottom, where the antlion grabs it, injecting venom and enzymes through the hollow mouthparts. Within minutes, the ant’s innards are dissolved so the antlion sucks out the fluids and then flicks the empty shell up onto the rim of the trap.
George Lucas was certainly inspired by antlions when he came up the monster Sarlacc and its Great Pit of Carkoon in Return of the Jedi.
I liked the way the light played with pattern, texture and colour. It seemed to be moving and shimmering.
We have many different species of trees on our property, including sumac, which grows along the edge of the woods.
My summer Moonflower garden is my favorite place to me in the early morning, since the flowers are still open and reaching to the moon in the sky.
Did a little playing around with self portraits today. Not sure which I like more so couldn't decide yet which will be my 365 photo for the day. Day 49 of 365
I wanted to have a whole arm reaching out but it looked more natural just having the hand coming out.
