Boston & Maine #1094 - 1906 Cafe Diner/Coach

"Boston & Main operated routes north from Boston to Portland, Maine and west (via the Hoosac Tunnel) to the Hudson River. Another route connected New Haven with points along the Vermont/New Hampshire border.

B&M purchased a large fleet of wooden cars in 1906-07, including six cafe-coaches with elegant stained-glass arched windows, varnished inlaid wood interior, and gas-fired chandeliers and wall sconces typical of the finest cars of that era. Its regular assignment was on the "Green Mountain Flyer" from Boston to Rutland, Vermont, until retirement in 1942. It was later renumbered as work car M3288, for use on wreck trains.

B&M 1094 is the only surviving B&M wooden cafe-coach. It was purchased from Guilford Transportation (B&M's successor) in 1992, and arrived at Union by flatcar in 1996. It is awaiting a full restoration.

Builder: Pullman

Empty Weight: 129,600 lbs

Just outside of New Ulm, MN, there is this railroad bridge. Notice how messed up the rails are, there are all kinds of sagging spots.

old derelict rails set into the wharf at Egerton Dock, Birkenhead - they seem too close together to be a railway, but one could be off a rail line with the other being a crane running line - not sure!

Till 1975 the Appenzeller Railroad gone through the old town of AltstƤtten to the station of the Federal Railroads, then the rails were removed from the street. Now they are provisionally built again for a festivity. AltstƤtten, Switzerland, Aug 10, 2007.

Hand rails that is. The conductor of EJ&E 656, a SD38-2 Hangs on the hand rails as the crew sorts, drops and picks up cars at Duplainville,WI. Note that the left hand air conditioning door is wide open as the crew fights the 90+ degree heat that hangs in the air on this hot and humid day.

Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure is a G-scale model train wonderland containing nine working model trains that wind through a stunning miniature landscape. The exhibit features miniature versions of local treasures of downtown Indianapolis, including the Eiteljorg Museum, Monument Circle, Union Station and Lucas Oil Stadium. The trains then head through the national parks of the American West, passing legendary sites, including grand railway lodges, Northwest Coast Native villages, and wonders both natural and human-made—Mt. Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Yosemite Falls, Old Faithful, the Las Vegas Strip, Hoover Dam and much more.

Abandoned Rails Trail is an easy hour-long walk on the original C.P.R. line at the summit of Rogers Pass. It features close views of two snow sheds, associated slide paths, and the original Rogers Pass station area.

This is a beautiful area to go hiking, thought it's cold and damp most of the time and both grizzly and black bears are common in area.

The remains of one of the snow sheds can be seen on the left side of the photo.
