Some ore cart rails in an abandoned mine in Death Valley, California. The ground beneath the rails had long ago fallen away, but they still held my massively obese body!

This machine lifts the rails off of the ground, whilst keeping the rails in-gauge, so that workers can install temporary wooden spacers underneath them in preparation of the installation of the rubber vibration/electrical isolation boots as well as the track ties and rebar that will all-together form the southbound track.

This is one of my first Holga shots. I wasn't aware of what a light hog the Holga is, so this is one of the few on that roll of 160 ASA film that didn't come out a little too dark.

These are all old rails, much lighter weight than what mainline roads use currently. Some of them bear the name of Carnegie Steel. Someone decided that the "natural" pond at Tanner Springs Park should have an edge made up of these rusty relics of the age of Harriman and Hill.

The rails of the old Arlington railway system are pushed to the side to make room for the new ones. The weather has started to rust them and the earth is starting to cover them. The randomness of the stacking and being allowed to rust disrespects the hard work these rails accomplished. They provided the means to bring people and goods up and down the eastern seaboard. They may have help move Presidents. The rails are said to sing. What song is there now?
