We were bored, we didn't sleep for almost 48h, and we developed (the best we could in 24hours straight) a full web application for item reviews (books, music, events, people, technology). It'll be available soon. Built for Railsday 2006
The boat ramp at Merool on the Murray with a set of rails set into the concrete.

J created another beautiful design for the RailsConf Europe pre-conference event we'll be throwing in September. If you're attending the conference, don't hesitate and sign up!
The evidence of our industrial heritage is all but gone now. There are little bits and pieces left like these gate posts at a pedestrian crossing over where the Slow and Dirty once ran from Bournemouth to Bath. They were made from old rails as you can see. The kissing gates were made from wood and metal bands curved like a barrel.
A frog from a turnout on an abandoned set of rails along Thames St. in the Fells Point neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. The view is looking east near Soth Broadway.

A reminder of the past, remnants of the former Peasmarsh Junction, where the Guildford - Horsham Direct Railway line to Cranleigh left the Portsmouth Direct Line.
Mid afternoon on an Autumn day, a 2 car Cityrail Endeavour DMU heads away, while in the distance a coal train approaches, the locos laying sand and producing dust.
Rails on a reservoir... taken from below them... bokeh on the rails... blown out sky... perfect exposure on face! love this lighting!
Not part of my tram route (unless I forget to step out!) but my favorite bit of tram rails of the whole city network nevertheless :)
Taken on a backroad somewhere in Colorado in the early '80s. There is a sharp dropoff just at the end of the tracks that head off away from the camera. Where they went to I have no idea. I was surprised to find the crossbucks still in place. It looks like there was also a pedestrian path crossing the tracks.

Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure is a G-scale model train wonderland containing nine working model trains that wind through a stunning miniature landscape. The exhibit features miniature versions of local treasures of downtown Indianapolis, including the Eiteljorg Museum, Monument Circle, Union Station and Lucas Oil Stadium. The trains then head through the national parks of the American West, passing legendary sites, including grand railway lodges, Northwest Coast Native villages, and wonders both natural and human-made—Mt. Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Yosemite Falls, Old Faithful, the Las Vegas Strip, Hoover Dam and much more.

Yellow markings recently applied to the railroad tracks. I'm puzzled as to their purpose, but I liked the design and look. The next photo in the "shimmy-de-fer" set shows the effect of six months.
Nevada Northern #10 "Ely" - 1889 Business Car
"The Nevada Northern operated a mining railroad near Ely, Nevada, carrying rich copper ore 160 miles north to connections with the Western Pacific.
This open-platform wooden car (which later received steel side sheathing and an enclosed platform on one end) is one of the finest examples of early business cars. Used by railroad officials as a traveling office, it provided two elegant staterooms, a lounge, dining room, galley, and crew quarters.
Originally built as Savannah, Florida & Western 100, it served on the NN from 1906 until 1947, then ran as Gulf, Mobile & Ohio business car 10 for the next ten years. In 1959, North American Car Company refurbished it, and donated the car to IRM in 1962. The ornate interior remains almost entirely original.
The Ely is the oldest "steam road" passenger car in IRM's collection.
