The descendants of abandoned pets, rabbits have settled into the parks, allotments and cemeteries of Helsinki big time. A mild winter boosted their numbers to many thousands.
It's interesting how quickly they've reverted to their natural colouration in a few generations.
I think it's a european rabbit and not a desert cottontail... ID help appreciated. Shot in Point Reyes, CA.

This was the reason why there was a bobcat lurking around the parking lot area of the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary. I guess I interupted his dinner plans. Woops.
The rabbits are having babies galore, and every morning there are rabbits everywhere in the orchard and grounds.
This one settled in a bed of white clover and loved eating there. The baby rabbits come out to eat when they stop nursing. Mother leaves under the fence and the babies have to fend for themselves.
Bugsy Rabbit sometimes thinks he is a dog. During this photo-shoot he repeatedly tried to sneak past me and then rough-housed when I would catch him. At one point he burrowed under me just so he could cuddle while I took photos of Thumper.
I find that the best way to walk and photograph at night is to keep the camera with light attached at about shoulder hight, pan slowly left to right looking for eye shine or movement. Once I spot an animal I hold the camera/light steady and it's possible to walk up quite close at least in the case of rabbits.
